It is a very good cartoon, almost more anime than standard cartoon, and I know just as many adults as I do kids who love it. The show was on for 3 seasons and was also planned for 3 seasons, so the story wraps up at the end of season 3. They are planning on a trilogy of movies, one to go with each season of the show. As for finding it on TV, it is a Nickelodeon show, so it will only ever be on one of their channels.

I bought all three seasons. Great show in my opinion. Also, like Enevhar said - it was planned out for 3 seasons so you know it wraps up within those 3 seasons.
I'm really looking forward to the movie this summer. M. Night Shyamalan is doing the movies and within the Avatar dvds there is an interview with him on how he came to love the series.

I've never gotten into the show, 'cause I can never find it on TV, but with the upcoming movie, my temptation to resist buying this is starting to waver.
Definitely get this along with the second and third season, because while it was okay for the first season, I really, really enjoyed the second and third seasons of this series. The first one helped set it up while the latter two hit it out of the ballpark.
