"Mount" spell question

Rules Questions

I'm trying to figure out whether or not the Mount spell (Sorcerer/Wizard 1) will only create a mount for the caster, or if the caster can cast several of them for the entire party.

The relevant wording is "You summon a light horse ... to serve you as a mount ...", by which I assume that only the caster can use the summoned mount. Plus, I have some hazy recollections of earlier editions (1e/2e) where that _might_ have been the case too.

What I definitely _do_ recall from earlier editions about this spell: horse breeders, farmers, and livery stables all over world heaved a sigh of relief when the rules changed - no longer were their horses suddenly disappearing in answer to a mage's call, possibly never to return! :)

I beleave that it follows the rules for summoning so only one at a time.

I remember the look of abject horrer on the face of my DM as I summoned the horse in a dungeon slapped its flank and ordered it to charge down the corador into the onrushing orcs. =)

Why only one at a time? You can cast summon monster multiple times.

This spell just says "a" light horse, not a specific one. Cast it as many times as you want, whatever.

Worst case scenario, you no longer have to pay for travelling by horse because you use up a few 1st level spell slots. I'm not sure I see a balance issue with that.

You should be able to summon multiple mounts if you use enough spell slots. Since you plan on doing that, go ahead and sell them to a farmer. These horses should be in perfect condition. Just make sure to get out of town before they vanish.
