I had an idea for the Templar class's Iconic - what if she's a female dwarf? Sort of analogous to Merisiel, showing that a character can actually play a race/class combo that takes a penalty to a class's second most important stat, as well as filling in one of the last few race/gender combos in the Iconics. We'd just need a female half-elf to cover the who gamut then. (Male half-orcs being covered by the assassin, even if he'll never officially be named.)

I don't know if there's even going to be an Iconic Templar or not, but it was just a thought.

isn't female half-elf the "iconic" for the Half-elves in the races section?

There's no plans for an iconic templar.

Oh well. Fair enough, then.

Templar?

The APG will include rules for a variant paladin—the chaotic evil antipaladin. There'll also be rules for what happens to paladins who are neither lawful good OR chaotic evil; these are called templars. They're not going to be a full class of their own, but a variant of the paladin class and will likely be modeled by simply changing or removing some paladin powers. Since they're not an actual class but a variant to a class... there's no need for an iconic.

Kewl! So we will have variants for all of the original classes? Awesome! I have been trying to come up with my own for a while, but it's hard to without real guidelines. I keep thinking, too powerful? Too weak? I am really looking forward to this book!

Well, I'd already planned on buying the APG the moment it came out, but now... Should I just buy two? What is the proper method of showing just how foaming at the mouth excited I am about this book?

There'll be variant abilities for all of the 11 core classes. The paladin is the only one that's having a large chunk of those variant abilities codified as a specific type of named variant class, though.

That makes sense, though I would think that Clerics would have similar styles as the Paladins, as there are just as many faiths. I definitely like the idea! I like it better than continually coming out with new 20 level Classes, when you can make it a variant of another one.

Though, having all of the "tasty tidbits" of the different Classes are definitely awesome... Thanks!

To a certain extent, the various domains and the powers they grant already do this, making clerics of different faiths feel different. Further, things like faiths and religions are very world specific, and as such are elements that we tend to shy away from in the core rulebook line. The Pathfinder Adventure Paths regularly do articles about the deities of Golarion, though (4 per year), and those articles often give specific spells, prestige classes, feats, and other crunchy options for clerics to adjust to specific faiths.

There WILL, of course, be lots more variant stuff for clerics in the APG, along with a LOT of new spells, but those variants won't be tied to specific deities.

What a pity, i had hope there was something as a Philosopher variant cleric class (a cleric who worshiped philosophies instead of deities).

Sounds like an Oracle to me.

Yeah; that's kind of what the oracle is.

will the templar have the paladin spell list?

It is ? Then it desperately needs a new PR. How would be a Oracles of the prophecies of Kalistrade ?

The whole POINT of the Propnecies of Kalistrade is that they're not clerics or divine spellcasters. They're bards or rogues.

The whole point of a Philosophy is that belief is power. I understand that their power is economical or political, but would be really be amusing if the people who believe gained real power (Planescape´s faction wise).

Perhaps... My personal preference is that clerics get their mojo from deities, but one could certainly have a cleric of a philosophy. It doesn't really need it's own variant class.

ANYway... all that said, there's going to be a LOT of variant powers for clerics in the APG. I'm certain something in there will work well for a cleric of philosophy.
