As a service to the Paizo community, I offer this thread.

If you are about to invoke Nazis, Hitler, or the Holocaust in any way in another thread, STOP. Check yourself. Then make your post in this thread.

Consider it Godwin's Law mitigation. Magic circle vs. Nazis.

Spoiler:
GODWINNED 1st post!!!

Does Nietzsche count?

Fascist.

The Nazis abused my legacy. They distorted my truths into their propagandic lies.

I'm deeply offended and insulted that anyone would threadjack this highly intelligent and respectful discussion with tomfoolery.

That's just like what Hitler did in the '30s.

Liberty's Edge

The rule does not make any statement about whether any particular reference or comparison to Adolf Hitler or the Nazis might be appropriate, but only asserts that the likelihood of such a reference or comparison arising increases as the discussion progresses. It is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued[4] that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact.

The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering genocide, propaganda, or other mainstays of the Nazi Germany, nor, more debatably, to discussion of other totalitarian regimes, since a Nazi comparison in those circumstances is understandable.

Seems to me that in certain situations a hitler/nazi reference can be appropriate and applicable to the discussion, and people tend to invoke godwin's law to avoid discussion of valid points more than it is used appropriately.

EDIT: posted before i finished reading article...it went on to state:

However, Godwin's Law itself can be abused, as a distraction, diversion or even censorship, that fallaciously miscasts an opponent's argument as hyperbole, especially if the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate. A 2005 Reason magazine article argued that Godwin's Law is often misused to ridicule even valid comparisons.[7]

Meh, sometimes a hitler references is necessary and applicable. Doesn't do anything for a debate when your "opposing party" chooses to try and brand it a godwin's law violation rather than respond to it.

I imagine that if Hitler had had the Internet he'd have compared anything with which he disagreed to the "international Jewish conspiracy."
