Hey everyone!
This being the 3rd Annual PaizoCon, we need to have the 3rd Annual Meet and Eat, as well!
The Meet and Eat is a pre-PaizoCon gathering, where folks coming in from out of town, as well as us locals, all descend on an area restaurant, eat some dinner, and get to know each other. This way, when you show up for PaizoCon, you've already got some friends!
We have it on the Thursday evening before PaizoCon, starting around 6 pm or so. The present choice so far is The Crab Pot in Bellevue (it was GREAT last year!).
Every year so far, we've managed to get 20-25% of the Con attendees to show up for the Meet and Eat. And since this year we have a cap of 500, we could get...(ulp!) 100 people??? Yikes!
I don't want to depend on that as my sole estimate, though. SO!
If you are attending PaizoCon, and are planning to attend the Meet and Eat as well, please post here that you are coming, and how many of you are coming.
Depends when I can get flights. If No 2 daughter and I are in town by then, count us in. Won't know for sure until the second half of April

April 8th.....we have 51 affirmatives, and 14 maybes. Total 65.
Neil, I agree, this is going to levels that may get us turned away.
Last year, we reserved space for 50. We probably got a dozen more than that wandering in.
I will try and make the reservation for 50-60 people...with the understanding that they may have to split the party up (GASP! NEVER split the party!!) into two groups or so. Extras showing up may have room to join one of those groups...or maybe not. I just don't think I'll get a good reaction from the Crab Pot if I say, "Well, I expect 60 people for sure, but another 20-30 may show up...."
It's a good restaurant, plenty of tables, and Thursday usually isn't a hoppin' night normally.
Oh, and in addition, I probably will be doing my Dim Sum Run on Sunday at 10:30 AM, if anyone is interested.

SO!
May 3rd at the totals:Affirmatives: 61
Maybes: 10
Total possible: 71
This is looking to be BIG. I will probably be making reservations this week, for about 65 people, with the possibility for up to 70.
We'll see how they react to THAT!
;-)
Make sure to tell them that we want 71 individual checks.

Tim, this event may be bordering on a sizeable enough scale to consider splitting it into two different groups...i.e., one Meet n'Eat event as an early dinner party...then a second one as a late dinner party...presumably on the same evening, but you could also split it up over the course of the convention, if necessary, by putting the two separate events on different nights. Sure, everyone won't be able to "meet" everyone...but then none of us will manage to do that over the course of the entire convention anyway. At least there's the potential of 30 or so people to interact with at each separate Meet n'Eat. And, you won't overburden the restaurant...which means the tradition can continue.
Also, given how this thing has grown like gangbusters, you might want to turn it into an actual sign-up "event" like everything else, even though it takes place outside of the convention's normal hours.
Just my two-cents of "trying to be helpful,"

I'd be up for a Meet and Eat, late night version ... I may not be getting to the hotel until about 10pm.

That might actually be better for those of us who are worried about what times our planes land. Like I have the option of getting there between 2 and 6, depending on which flight is open when I purchase out tickets this weekend, but we want to go to the meet and greet. If that spurt of rambling makes any sense at all.

Last week, Alaskan Airlines informed me that my flight got changed. I won't be landing until about 10 after 8 on Thursday evening, so if any other folks are getting in around then and want to pick up a late dinner + drinks, let me know. I know I'll be hungry and thirsty. :)
Count me in on this Adam. I'll be securing tickets by Friday and the flights I can grab have me landing around 9pm on Thursday.

And there you have a good idea....that puts a cap on it, and makes it easy to make a reservation, because the max number is known. Ah, well...next year!
However, I kind of like the 2 reservation idea, too , for this year. Just curious, if I made two reservations on Thursday, one for dinner at 5 or 6, and the other at 7 or 8, what kind of split will that likely make for this group of 60 or so?
30 / 30 ?
40 / 20 ?
50 / 10 ?
Alternatively, what if we did a Thursday night AND a Friday night?
How many of you would show on Thursday?
And Friday?
I'll try and be attending the Paizo Chat in the chatroom tonight...drop by and tell me what you think!

Because of jetlag, I'll only attend the earliest possible gathering. Pulling late-night stuff at PaizoCon is tough for me. Just ask Lisa. I was struggling mightily to stay awake during the Grand Convocation event while roleplaying Princess Muhlia of the Qadira faction. By the time we ended (at midnight local time?), it was like 3AM in the morning for me...and I'm a morning person, not a night person. :-)

Good Morning Neil!
I love that you are a late night Qadira fan by direct orders. :)

::channeling my inner-Muhlia::
"Of course, I'm a fan of Qadira...late night, early night, mornings, and days as well. And it doesn't require orders from the Satrap. We just have to make sure we put the proper investment behind the events we attend to better maximize our profitable returns for the Padishah Empire of Kelesh. I also happen to do my best work in the morning, long before most have risen from the revels of the night."

Haha... I remember this Neil. You barely could say a word that night you were so jetlagged.

But determined to be a team player. ;-)
They needed someone to play the Qadira faction leader. I had nothing else planned for the night. Why not pitch in? Riiiggght?...ZZZZZzzzzzz...
Actually, Lisa really kept me going. Her enthusiasm and energy running the Wheel of Fate was contagious and entertaining.

I thought a lot about this last night, and I think we need to hold to the 6 PM dinner event. I'll see how badly they react to a count of 70, though. I will be extremely accommodating with them, letting them put us in whatever arrangement is best for them.
Last year, we had like 4 long tables, with 12-16 people each. Service took a bit of time, but we didn't really care...there was drink and conversation aplenty!
I also have been considering Neil's suggestion that there be a Friday night event...and my wife made an excellent suggestion: Meet and Eat at Crossroads Mall in Bellevue. Why is this a cool idea? Crossroads has an excellent international food court, and right across from it is an Uncle's Games store, and a Half-Price bookstore!
The downside is that Friday night's PaizoCon schedule is full of gaming in the 6-11 pm slot. So, I'm not sure if people would be interested in passing up Con gaming for dinner and shopping nearby. I am certain that not everyone will be participating in the Friday night slot....just not sure how many.
Just an idea at this point, though.
And remember, I will be going for my Dim-Sum Run on Sunday at 10:30 am, for all those not gaming on Sunday morning.

I think this is the better way to go. It will be a big group, probably too big for everyone to meet one another, but it is a better early introduction to the Con-goers and a chance to feel the size of the convention.
