Gary has ripped out our old search engine and replaced it with a faster and much more capable one. We'll be fine-tuning it and adding more features as time goes by, but you can give it a spin now!
wowza! supreme congratulations and thanks, gary!
Ooooh! Finally a tool to browse the best flame wars of the past 5 years. Brilliant work!
All you have to do is enter "sebastian" into the search box.
Hint: try searching for things like DWARF MINIATURES.

Vic Wertz wrote: Hint: try searching for things like DWARF MINIATURES. Pffft. I think my policy on mis-using the technological tools you give us here on Paizo is well-established.
Now to do some necro-ing...
Vic Wertz wrote: Hint: try searching for things like DWARF MINIATURES. WOW! that's lots of options!
I typed in "Richard Pett." That guy is scary prolific!

you guys need a blog post explaining about this, or even one of the 3 'panels' on the front page.
again, thanks to gary!
I'm so happy I'm delirious. Finally we have a good search feature again. The trick of using Google had a lot of problems while this search engine seems, at first blush, to be quite good. I was able to nearly instantly locate a post I wrote in March of 2007 about using Dragons optimally, something I'd not been able to locate since mid 2008.
Vic Wertz wrote: Hint: try searching for things like DWARF MINIATURES. Holy gods!
That is super-smexy!
Methinks Gary needs a raise.
Wow...I searched for "hogarth grapple hezrou" and it referred me to exactly the archived post I was looking for, and nothing else!
Kudos!
Awesome! I just used the new Search for the first time(almost a month after the update), typed in what I thought would be a mostly useless string and got exactly what I was looking for.
Great work!
It is now possible to search the PRD via the site search engine.
Idea the Ignore List/Poster Filtering prompted:
Have a Search: Within this Thread option [within the current page's thread], which can search for poster(s), topics, etc. Might have to grey it out for non-forum pages like the front page, etc...
It'd also be cool if there was a search box WITHIN the prd section itself...
Quandary wrote: It'd also be cool if there was a search box WITHIN the prd section itself... That's coming soon, perhaps as early as next week.

This is actually already on the todo list... I was waiting for someone to request it before assigning it a priority. I know some forums have long threads on a specific topic where you might want to search for a particular subject you know has been covered somewhere in there (e.g., "latest firmware update"), but I wasn't sure it'd be as useful for our messageboards. (Does anybody really need to search the FAWTL threads? :-)

I have no idea what FAWTL is supposed to mean, but I *know* Search: Within Thread would be very useful for the loooong threads that tend to develop here, to be able to go find one of my OWN posts that directly addresses a recent poster's question, just as one example... Or to look for the James/ Jason post that I *know* I saw somewhere... etc...
This brings up that distinguishing between filtering for a poster within thread and filtering for content within thread could be useful, otherwise a person's name would also bring up messages QUOTING that person's name...
Anyhow, thanks for the good job getting this going!
Quandary wrote: I have no idea what FAWTL is supposed to mean... I think it stands for "Forums Are Way Too Long", although what that means and where it came from, I have no idea. Maybe I can find out using the Search feature.

More power to Paizo!
Way to go Gary!
