Here I was hopeful for a Starfinder novel.

I wouldn't give up hope. It seems to me that Paizo are very keen to make this happen - they just need to find a publishing partner and that takes time.

I spoke to James Sutter about it briefly and I got the impression that the format/release schedule/style of novels are all be up for negotiation as part of this search for an external publisher, so there might be some visible change from the arrangement with Tor. I don't see any sign that it's not going to happen eventually though.

Once the dust has settled, it seems like everyone would win to at least experiment with some Starfinder novels.

Dark Archive

+1 for Starfinder Tales.

Make em the old format & $10 a pop and i'm all in. ;-)

I just hope they don't go to DRM-encumbered ebooks. That would be extremely annoying.

I like the ebooks better than the paper ones, for the most part. I only have so much shelf space.... But barring exceptional circumstances, I will not buy DRM-encumbered ebooks. When faced with that option, I either will try to find a used paperback, or just not read the book at all.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

I would really like to see a novelization of the adventure paths. I really like the stories but I can't justify buying the APs since my group doesn't really care for published adventures.

Also to second Starfinder Tales!

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but are you aware of the Pathfinder Legends line, which adapts Adventure Paths in the form of full-cast audio dramas?

Just curious, what is going on with the Pathfinder Tales? We used to get a book every 2-4 months. It has been 4 months since Gears of Faith and nothing is showing for the next 3 months, either. Is there some kind of issue going on? Not complaining, just wondering. I've been catching up on my Tor and Robert E. Howard's Conan books during this break, but a change of worlds would be nice.

Thanks for any information on this.

They're not partnered with Tor anymore and are looking for a new partner.

Np.

Does this mean that Audible is likely to not be continued after finding someone new? Or Audible versions for the released books that do not yet (to my knowledge) have Audible versions?

To the Paizo Gods,

Just wanted to give feedback that I prefered the size of the books when they were published in-house. the TOR size books made self space on a book shelf very problematic - just in case you have different size options to choose from with new publishers!

Whatever the size, can't wait to see them back!

Thanks

I would like to put my 2 coppers in concerning the size of the books. I prefer the larger size. They fit in my larger hands much easier.

And the bigger print is always easier to read.

So Im looking to start reading these, is there a preferred order or a book I should start with? Or can I just pick up any old book and be good to go?

Pretty much :3

Though certain ones do follow a self contained order, those by the same author.

I recommend Prince of Wolves as a good starter.

So, Paizo.

What the f%!$?
I’ve been patient, I’ve been understanding.
I’m a long time subscriber, and it’s been a longtime since you’ve fulfilled your end of the bargain.
As a supporter and subscriber, I’d like to see that as an investment, a guarantee that I will back your novels. As an investor in an ongoing endeavor, I would expect some communication from the producer that production has stopped indefinitely and is likely to cease.
I’d hoped for an email, you’re quick to bill me, but not quick to embrace transparency and accountability. I get emails from Tor every week and Paizo is always in my inbox Friday afternoon-Saturday morning.
All I hear is more about f%$@ing Star(frontiers)finder and godawful space opera.
I can’t count the thousands I’ve spend on Dungeon, Dragon magazine, Pathfinder AP, splatbooks, miniatures, novels, conventions.

Guess you don’t feel you owe your customers a lousy email update.

And I would imagine authors like Tim Pratt, Wendy Wagner, and their PT peers feel a little f!$$ed over too. Wasn’t there to be another Liar’s novel?

Then I think about all the shot you make in a China and then I really get upset.

Thanks for leaving everyone hanging.

First, Paizo don't "owe" you to publish any more novels. Second, the person responsible for the fiction line, James Sutter, has recently left Paizo. Next, you may have read the following statement by Vic Wertz from earlier this year:

Vic Wertz wrote:
Sometimes, businesses are in a position where they literally can't say things. This is especially common when more than one business is involved.

And finally, I'm sure nobody wants to get the novel line going again that Paizo themselves. But it's business, and business isn't always so simple that you can just do what you want to do.

Besides that, the "godawful space opera" is selling like hotcakes and is certainly much more profitable than the novel line ever was. Paizo is a business, not a charity, and as such they are completely within their right to put their focus on what makes the most money. They literally don't owe you. That's just how it works.

I’m not really clear what you’re asking for. It sounds like you’d like them to send you a regular email, but isn’t that just going to be Paizo repeatedly saying “we still haven’t found a publisher for the novels?” Or are you suggesting something else?

moonglum - none of us are happy that there aren't Tales novels coming out. That does not excuse your abusive and profane tone though.

Dark Archive

I really don´t expect any news until early 2018.

That being said, i can see the frustration of a person subscribing to something and then not knowing when a new product in that line is coming out.

When you are a subscriber to a product line and there is nothing coming out in that line for seven months, nor anything new is announced for the next seven months, it isn´t good.

Personally i think it would be better to cancel all subscriptions from Paizo´s side in this case, and offer a new one once everything is worked out.

I also really don´t get that a monthly update isn´t possible, even if it´s the same message all over.
It shows people that something is going on behind the curtains.

Even though i admid that moonglums tone isn´t appropriate, he is not wrong.

I don't see the value in a cut-and-paste "nothing to report" email every month, personally. I think there'd just be complaints about that.

I don't know about cancelling - I wouldn't mind if subscriptions has a "suspended" state or something which showed they were on hiatus. However, I suspect it happens so rarely that it's not worth the programming power to set that up.

The way things are - you won't hear anything until there's news (you can bet there'll be a blog post and the usual email notifications to subscribers before anything gets charged). So if you don't like the pricing structure, format or timetable of release once a publisher is found you'll be able to adjust your subscription then. Cancelling everyone's subscriptions just sounds like a lot of work to me - and there'll inevitably be people who miss out on the first few books and then come back asking for it to be retroactively reinstated for the PDF (or whatever perks are part of the sub going forward).

I can appreciate frustration at hearing nothing, but I'm not convinced Paizo doing anything different is going to reduce the frustration, really. The annoyance will just be felt by a different cohort of customers.

My wife has read nearly every book, she would be incredibly sad if Pathfinder Tales is no more.

Thank you for the feedback regarding the Pathfinder Tales line. I've made a note on my agenda to bring up the subject in my next meeting with Erik. Please remember to adhere to our Community Guidelines when posting on our forums.

I take it there was no update from that meeting?

Any chance of an indication when we might expect an update?

Are there any novels set in Osirion?

Paizo Employee Franchise Manager

Parts of City of the Fallen Sky recount the protagonist and his friends' journey across Osirion on their way to the Mwangi Expanse. Some of the short fiction is set there, including much of Dark Tapestry, and the entirety of both the Pathfinder's Journal entries in the Mummy's Mask AP (which have not yet been compiled into an eBook) and the free web fiction serial, "Dune Runner".

Captain Brown Bear wrote:

I believe Pirate's Honor also has a pit-stop in Osirion if I'm not entirely mistaken, or takes place in some quite near locals.

Just popping in to say, please more. Me and my wife are a big fan of the Audiobooks. And we know that there are probably quite a few drafts already sitting complete on the now empty Sutter's desk. We want to see continued adventures in pathfinder, preferably in audiobook but even print only will work for some of the favourites we've had.

Any official news on the status of the Pathfinder Tales novels?

Ready to buy again as soon as they're published.

I purchased and enjoyed every single one that went to print, regardless of the size or format.

(I've asked this question in both threads that seem appropriate.)
