So, any chance for some new collected epubs from the web fiction? It's been quite a while.

So, now that the audiobook news is out, any news on the short fiction frontcoming up?

Dark Archive

I have PT #1-26 from paizo.

I had to order #27 from amazon because my local flagstore did not get it with the change to tor books.

Somehow they have not received books # 28-30 and i won't order the ones i don't like on amazon because i would have to pay over €15 for a book even though the € is worth more than the $.

It seems tor books does not offer a big margin discount, so sadly i will only buy some few of these afzer they are out a while.

On another note

Book #32 is "Liar's Bargain" and
Book #33 is "Starspawn".

Mediocre cover: Female Paladin vs. supernatural monk.

I will pick up the former when it is offered used for €5.

Why is it that Gears of Faith (due out in April) is showing up in the subscription list above but Through the Gate in the Sea (due out in February, or three months before Gears of Faith) isn't?

Any chance the Pathfinder Tales novels published by Tor will eventually receive Trade Paperback Editions? I would really rather have these in the same size as my other books in the series.

Dark Archive

@Hawkins, the new size released by TOR is considered trade Paperback Editions. If you like the older sized books, they are traditionally called mass market paperback sized.

Dark Archive

I also like the old mass market editions better.
The new ones are uncomfortable to read, pricier and so far i only like half of the new ones (which has nothing to do with the format, i know).

Dark Archive

There are some concerns from my side, that the new Pathfinder tales books are not doing so well:

1. I can´t find a solicitation anywhere for a book beyond april´s "Gears of Faith".

2. The new format is not very popular (personally i hate it).

3. The quality of the last 3 books (imo) wasn´t up to the usual standard.

I hope we get some info soon. Personally i would be delighted to see the Tales return to Paizo and the old format (including digital versions) and would be okay with the new price. ;-)

Dark Archive

Okay, the other products have been updated through october and i still can´t find anything new on the web.

It really seems the Pathfinder Tales line is comingto an end... ;-(

Starfinder Charter Superscriber

On another thread last week, Erik Mona said there were some problems with the distributor but he promised the line was not being cancelled.

Sometimes, businesses are in a position where they literally can't say things. This is especially common when more than one business is involved.

Oh yeah. There's the usual customer ignorance of all the issues at play too. Thanks, vic. :)

Apparently if I had looked at this 36 hours or so ago, it would have been interesting. I actually came here because while Gears of Faith is listed as shipping in April, it is not listed in any of my next three shipments on the Product Schedule. Why the disparity? I know I'll get it this month or next and probably other items not among the 13 currently listed.

Dark Archive

"Gears of Faith" will be the last Pathfinder Tales book from Tor books.

The line will continue, but Paizo is searching for a new partner.

There will be a gap in the schedule until one is found.

More info on the "Gears of Faith" product page, i can't link from my mobile. :-)

Hopefully at a better price point. $15 for a paperback is too high. I do enjoy the books but will not pay that price.

I can remember when paperbacks increased from 25 cents to 35 cents - a 40% increase! Was very annoying. Fifteen bucks?! Hardbacks shouldn't cost that much! :)

You are correct. I am still holding out hopes for mass market paperback versions of the TOR books, as well as future books in the Tales line.

Is there any update on the status of this line? Or, failing that, any estimate on when there might be an update?

There wasn't any official word at Paizocon. I spoke to James Sutter about it and they're clearly still very keen to get the line running again. My impression was that there's a few potential publishing partners around but that there isn't an imminent deal or anything. He didn't have a timeline to report.

As such, I couldn't imagine anything coming out this year and if I were to bet, I'd think the later half of next year would be the earliest we'd see a new book. That's just my speculation though and even that would rely on deals being made and contracts being signed in the next few months (Paizo's busiest time of year, I believe).

Thanks for that. Doesn't sound too good, though - surely, the longer the line is on hiatus, the harder it is to revive?

I don't think so.

My impression was that there's like half a dozen books "lined up" ready to go, plus many ideas in the works (including a few change-of-format things they want to experiment with). So once they do find a publisher to work with, things should get moving pretty swiftly. I don't think that it's going to matter to any future publisher how long it's been since the last one. It'll just be a matter of finding someone looking for what PF Tales has to offer and able to provide what Paizo needs in a publisher.

He didn't rule out going back to publishing them in house, but there's clearly a lot of resourcing issues with that, especially around workforce. It seems that petty much nobody at paizo has any spare time, professionally - so bringing the old model back would require serious investment/restructuring that wouldn't be ideal.

I DO agree with the "doesn't sound good" part. I'm definitely going to miss them and really hope a solution turns up soon.

I asked about the line in the Future of Paizo seminar, Sunday, after the announcements at the banquet failed to mention the line.

Eric reiterated that they're looking for a new publisher, and that he's heading to the NY Book Expo this week to meet with prospective partners. He also said that we shouldn't expect new novels until 2018 (and plugged the comics as a stop gap fiction option for us). He also said that there's 6 (potentially approximate number) novels in the can, ready to go, so once a deal is struck, they have product to print.

Pretty much aligns with what Steve mentioned from talking to James Sutter.

While I'm not thrilled, it's not like I don't have dozens of books in my to read pile still. Just an excuse to catch up on other stuff.

Good! Maybe I'll have time to catch up on the ones that have already been published. :-)

And they do have GenCon 2030 to prepare for. That eats up a lot of their time.
