Nice. I was trying to think of a good rhyme earlier, but this is perfect.

Just don't ask me why I remember the rhyme from the cartoon, I just do.

Two different color takes on this nasty guy.
very nice, prefer the darker one meself.
Some potential ossuary golem minis:
MageKnight's brass golem
MK's steam golem
my favorite, MK bone golem
though maybe from WoW minis check out Ras, Harvest golem and the skeletal priest.
I meant these as springboards for art, not in replacement of someone's drawings.

The grey one looks like a leech, totally creepy. The raspberry-look, not so much. Just not a color that inspires dread, although if it was a few shades different, it would be wrong on a completely different level. :)
The original description said the SH was mauve so with that in mind, I tried to follow the same path as Mind Flayers and classic Tyranids.

I approve of this horror! ;-)
Excellent work! You have a great deal of talent. My original (and somewhat demented) vision had tentacles of various lengths and widths sprouting from all over its body, in all directions. But your version is still awesome.

Many thanks, the SH was a ton of fun to draw and paint!
Awwww. It just wants to give somebody a hug and a big, wet, slobbery kiss.
I volunteer you. ;-)

Wow! Those are great. I like the coloring on the first one the best, but I'm partially color-blind, so I might not be the best judge. :)
Thanks taig! I wanted to one version of how I envisioned it and the second was with the mauve color that Tom Qadim indicated. I'm wondering if I got that right or not...

Chilling!
I just happened to be checking the boards when this popped up!
All of your drawings have been really good, Jack!
EDIT: I'm surprised (unless you already have and I'm just unaware) that you haven't found some work with some 3PPs. There's been more than one occasion that I've heard some on the look out for some good black and white art.

Thanks Jim! So did I draw the Skintaker correctly?
And as for 3PPs, I would love to do some work for them but I have to get my act together and get a website up and going to show my portfolio.

Yes. I hope the voters forgive me for this, but I have always been fuzzy on the head and skull. Not that I don't know my own creature, but I myself can't decide what looks best.
The feedback I got from some sample readers was that they liked the exposed brain and that had to stay. One memorable comment I'll never forget was, "its just too spooky imagining the old brainpan floatin' in the breeze."
Sometimes I like a half-skull so that there's something of a jaw. However, I'm not sure that looks right either. In fact, that might suck. I don't know.
Eeeeh.
My wife was one of my proofreaders and she knows nothing of Pathfinder (or 3.5) and she thought the skintakers were just scary. Part of that reaction, I think, is that not having a face to look at is disconcerting. Dehumanizing. Not know where to focus on. I find staring at a skull or a corpse face easier than nothing but a brain and eyes.
Watching Dr. Manhattan's self-reconstruction and struggle to retain his humanity was as engaging to me as Frank's escape from the Cynobites in Hellraiser (which of course I've seen).
Finally Jack, I can't draw a darn thing. I'd love to have your talent but I just don't. I'm always humbled by people who can draw and I seldom like to critique what I couldn't do on my very best day.
This is an awesome skintaker!

Definitely!
I had a friend that had an opportunity to do that, and that was the first thing he was told he should do by a professional and well known 3PP (who I'll leave nameless). He got a day job and never got around to it, and that chance sort of got away from him.
I strongly recommend getting an online portfolio.

I think the current look works best. Visually, there is a fine line between creepy and comical when a brain and big eyes are involved. (I always think of Krang from TMNT). I struggled for a bit as the Skintaker's "head" looked almost silly in my first few attempts. I even tried adding bits of skull like the jaw and nose area and it makes him look like an undead clown. So I think you made the best choice with the floating brain/eyes. :-)
And feel free to give any feedback, regardless of your drawing talent. An artist has to learn to accept criticism to get better so I've heard most or all of it before and I appreciate any input anyways.
As for the portfolio, I'm working on it! Hopefully it will lead to something.

The jagged spines running down the center of the dorsal surface are an excellent touch, and I see you included some verdigris on the body itself.
Superb, Jack. I am greatly impressed.
