I am having the same problem that Aberzombie is reporting:

Looking at this further, the font NexusSerifOT seems to be the font that is changing into dots. Steel Magnolias is defaulting to a simple sans serif font.


I'm getting the same message and problem.

"Cannot extract the embedded font 'QXJLDF+SteelMagnolias'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."

About 90% of the words are nuked, replaced by dots.

Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0. PC platform. Windows XP.


From a different perspective...

Downloaded the "single" file yesterday, and re-personalized it about 10 minutes ago and downloaded it again. Extracted it and viewed it. Everything is fine from both downloads.

Windows Vista, jZip, and Foxit PDF reader.

I don't think it is the file, but something in youse guys setup.

My setup is the exact same I have used for 29 past PDFs. First time I have had the problem. I am not using Vista. jZip or Foxit, however. I did not try to extract it, however. I was opening directly from the zipped file. I will try extracting and see what happens. Thanks.

Has everyone having problems tried repersonalizing and redownloading? A corrupt download is always possible and usually leads to the type of problems showing up.

Yep, tried that. BTW, the same procedure as my previous downloads but I have a new CPU at work. I will try at home later and see if I get the same problem.

This appears to a be problem with Adobe Acrobat. Please see this thread, particularly my post there.

The fix is to reinstall Acrobat, then repersonalize, and redownload. If you've tried this and continue to have issues, please let me know and include your OS, your decompression utility, and your PDF reader.

I am not using Acrobat Reader. I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7. I repersonalized and downloaded using two different machines with two different versions of Acrobat Professional and had the same problem. I also have tried to open with Acrobat Reader and the same problem has occured. As stated previously, I have never encountered this problem with any of Paizo's PDF dowloads. I am not trying to sound defensive or obnoxious, but I suspect there may be a problem with the PDF itself in some capacity. I make this observation based on personal experience. I am a graphic designer for a newspaper and have worked with PDF files for over ten years (again, please do not read this as pompous or obnoxious) and have encounter more problems than I can count or you really care to hear about. It could be possible that my Acrobat Professional is corrupted on one machine, but I am uncertain as to how it would be the same on two different machines?

My OS is Windows 2000 on one machine and Windows XP on the other in case it is relevant.

Not sure if this is the issue or if it was something with the Distiller settings when the PDF was made.

So I download Reader 9 and the PDF I prevoiusly downloaded work fine. It is something to do with the older version of Acrobat. I will use the newer version of Reader in the future. Thanks.

I had the same problem. With Acrobat reader version 7.something, I only saw dots instead of the text, but with version 9, it's all good.


Yep. I was having the same problems with Acrobat 7.1, but both Acrobat Reader 9.0 and Foxit 3.1 work fine.
