Getting logged out by the system...

Website Feedback

There have been a few times where I have ended up making posts that have been really long. As a general rule of thumb I "copy" such posts before hitting the "submit" button. However, something I have noticed is that if not only was my post long but I took a while to compose it in the post creation page that not only does my post not get created but that I am actually logged out and sent to the paizo homepage.

So, even if I have used the copy feature to save my post I have to log in and that often requires the use of copying my password from a document. So, I end up having to open a word program to save my post before I can log back in.

Is there some reason that the forums do this? (Yes, I know there is some reason but I am interested if Paizo has a reason...) Also, can it be fixed?

It happened again. :(

This is a known bug for when there is a long delay between when you begin your post, and when you hit submit... it is no where near as prominent as it was about 2 years ago (Gary's fixed 3 different causes of it I believe)

Gary has fixed a bunch of bugs where this happens *without* long delays being involved.

Really long delays, though, time out by design. While you're composing, you're not actually communicating with our servers until you click submit, so as far as we know, you've gone away; after a while, we stop remembering where you were and what you were doing when we last saw you. That's what's causing you to go back to the main page.

Now, you should only have to sign in again if you then try to go to a secure area (where the url starts with "https").

When the system kicks me back to the main page, I am already logged out.

Are you by any chance using a bookmarked URL that starts with https?

No, I checked and I am not.

Perhaps you guys have answered and I just misunderstood.

I come to the site using a bookmark that is not an https.
I choose a forum.
I choose a thread.
I hit add post.
I take too long in making my post.
When I hit submit, I am "sent" to the homepage of Paizo AND I am logged out.

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought the earlier responses said that the timeout should stop my post from going through but I should not have to log back in.

Is perhaps the "post response" a secure page that does this?

Thanks for the effort here.

For clarity, this only happens when taking a while to compose a post. Under most circumstances everything is OK. It doesn't bother me to ensure that I "copy" before hitting submit just to make certain I do not lose my post, but it is kind of annoying to need to log back in.

Is it possible that I am being prompted to "sign in" despite not being logged-out and that I could post without having to go through the log-in sequence? Note: I don't think I have tried that.

If your name still shows up at the top of the screen, you are still logged in there is another security feature that makes you give your password before getting access to the my account, my download, or any of the other htts areas of the site, which went into effect after someones ggame geoup edited some data onthier profile as a joke

My name does not show up. The screen says "welcome guest", has a "sign=in" link (I should have referred to it as a link rather than a prompt, I think...), and the rest of the stuff on the top line of the homepage.

I, for one, will always accept cookies from Paizo.

Carry on.

Not that I know of. I remain logged-in when I close my browser. I remain logged-in when I shutdown my computer and come back. The forum keeps track of where I left off. If I make a post that isn't very long, I remain logged-in. I am only logged-out if I make a post that takes long enough to compose for the site to kick me back to the home page.

It doesn't happen very often but it is annoying when it does because not only do I lose a post (if I didn't think to "copy" it) but I have to log back in.

I will take cookies if offered, especially if there is milk.

I know you're running IE7. Ever bothered to upgrade to IE8? I'm running it fine w/o issues.
