The name Caves of Chaos is not copyright as I recall, so I think that it could be used as the name of an adventure instead of Keep on the Borderlands. It would be relatively easy to create an adventure with much of the feel of the original adventure, perhaps a bit more tightly written and with some things better explained (such as what do the monsters eat, have they been there a while).

A Pathfinder introductory product SHOULD include a great introductory adventure that a new or experienced GM could build on.

I also sent out some more copies of my conversion.

Indeed you did!

Thank you :)

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when I re-wrote KoTB as a 2nd Ed adventure, but took some of the awesome (yet strangely unexploited!) adventure hooks to start off around the keep first. If you all recall, there is already a BBEG in the keep itself! Well it was many many many sessions before they even went wandering off to the Caves.

The other 'forest encounters' were weaved into a bigger tale.

So you can do a heap with that old content.

I'd love a copy of what you've done, please.

E-mail in my profile.

May I also get a copy of your work on that very fine adventure?

Got it! Thanks

I would be interested in seeing your conversion. Particularly how you handled the elf adviser conversion since the original basically had them as a multi-class fighter/magic-user.

Thanks for considering it!

William - when you have a moment, I'd love a copy of your notes. (I still have fond memories of running you, Eric Noah, Ben Durbin, and others through my 3.0 conversion of Ghost Tower of Inverness at one of the first Chicago GameDays. :))

Thanks!

Okay, I made sure to attach the file. I hope that it went threw.

Eridanis, long time no see. I hope that you are doing well.

By the way, I am running a Pathfinder Society scenario, the Pallid Plague, at EN World Gameday 28 -- which according to Mark CMG marks the 10th anniversary of several of us being at the GameDays three times a year.

Got it just fine. Thanks again!

We are doing well, thank you. I'm glad the Chicago GameDays are still going strong after all these years; it sure helps when you have awesome folks like Curt and everyone at Games Plus to support it.

As with everyone else, I'd love to see your conversion, if you have a chance to send it off again of course.

William,

Seeing as how a year after you started this thread people are still requesting your conversion, I'd love to get a copy as well. Email is in profile.

thanks in advance

This would be a lot of fun to run, can I get copy please

Thanks!

I will send out some copies tomorrow, as the weekend was busy.

As for some of the rational behind some of my conversion choices, I decided that the PCs -- regardless of how they were created -- should be more impressive than the typical guard. I also threw in a few changes here and there to keep players on their toes. (Such changes can be completely ignored.)

So, check your e-mails tomorrow night. I will see if there are any further requests.

I'd love to see what you've done with the conversion. Could you send?

It'd be great if I could get a copy of this, too. I've been wanting to run Keep on the Borderlands in Pathfinder but as a bit of a newbie DM I haven't any idea where to start in converting it.

On a sad side note, the cover artist Jim Roslof, just recently passed away.

Please mail me the PF Conversion too

BTW here's a 3E conversion of Return to the Keep of the Borderlands including a map of the keep.

And there's an article called "Repair to the Keep of the Borderlands" by Russ Taylor in the excellent Oerth Journal #11.

Only a cursory look -- as I have a house guest and a lot to do. It should be slower next week, so I will look in more detail then. Thanks again.

I'm all swimming with curiosity as well.

Color me interested in seeing the conversion as well... Also, are you just substituting the draconic kobolds for the canid kobolds of the original version or replacing the canid kobolds with pugwampi (Bestiary 2 p.144)? :D

Hi, Dale!! These are draconic kobolds.... Bestiary 2 was not out yet when I did the revision. (The kobold chieftain is a little bit different than the rest of his fellow kobolds.)

Stuff

I've run "Keep on the Borderlands" more times than I want to think about. I think my former players even have the loot memorized after 20 years. To me, it's always been a fun, exploration-type hack and slash module.

Having said that, the module doesn't have a lot of plot going for it, and it's extremely long (days to complete), so I'm not sure it's suitable for convention play. Also, part of the fun back then was going to the keep and starting trouble there as well.

Sure, the premise behind the scenario sounds feasible, but almost anything will do, it's all about hack and slash and exploration.

Common trade goods... you could just make up things. The link below might help. Are trade goods that important for a one shot scenario?

Most of my conversions have been between 3.5 and PF. A lot of the time I just leave the monster stats as 3.5. Obviously you can't do that since it's 1E. So if it was me, I'd check the EL of all of the encounters before proceeding, maybe consider giving everyone a 3rd level character, so they can go farther.
