Now available!

This special preorder bundle works a bit differently than most products here at paizo.com. At checkout, you will immediately be charged the full bundle price, and you will immediately be given access to the Beta PDF. When the Beta print edition is shipped to you, you will be charged the shipping fee. When the finished PDF edition becomes available, you will automatically gain access to that edition of the PDF.

Order cancellations for this item can only be refunded with store credit.

I wanted to thank Vic, and everyone at paizo for working with us to make this available.

This looks really awesome. Just finished watching the youtube trailer, and I am very interested in this.
Any ETA on the final version?

I'm assuming this requires Arcana Evolved to play?

You might want to give the Atomic Array episode dedicated to the Jade Oath a listen. IIRC, the interviewee gave the assurance that AE was not necessary for HotJO.

I see that the cover of the product says "Requires the use of Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved," so I added that to the product description.

Thanks, Vic. :(

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...!

Sorry Licencing Requirements Maikurion :)

The preorder will run for 30 days,

ETA on the final (OMEGA version) is before Gencon 2011, our patrons are doing extensive BETA testing.

Oh and hey we have a preorder already so I get to send Paizo three copies (one for that customer, one for their stock, and one for the Paizo folks to play with).

Oh and here is the link to the Jade Oath Teaser Trailer

Heheh, good luck Matt hope you advance

Can't wait to take a good long look at this, my group has played AE for both the Age of Worms and Savage Tide. We love AE but we were trying to decide if we wanted to move onto Pathfinder 3.5 or 4th edition. I suspect they will be kung fu fighting Karzoug or the Fey in Kingmaker in the next campaign.

Also there is a 5 part interview with the author Frank Carr here Here

That's awesome Lord Vile, I hope one day to get Rituals of Choice done (the 3rd adventure is with the editor now).

I'm having an issue with the pre-order. Every operation I make on my Paizo shopping cart gives me the following message:

"Heroes of the Jade Oath (Arcana Evolved) Hardcover/PDF Preorder Bundle was removed from your shopping cart because it is not available."

It does not actually remove the item from my cart. However when I try to pay, the Select Payment Method button loops back to the order summary page, with the above message.

Edit: Corrected Typo

The Paizo folks won't be back in the office (as they are on pacific time) and they deserve their sleep as they put alot of effort into getting this up, but I have already sent off an email and will follow up on this issue with Vic.

Does the PDF show up in your downloads?

As of last night I couldn't even get to select my payment method. Attempting to get to that page in the purchase process just reloaded the display of my shopping cart contents.

As of this morning I was able to make the purchase and the file is now in my downloads. Maybe last night the server was overloaded or something, though the forums were working normally for me.

I still got the warning error message as I went through the purchase process though. I'll have to see if it downloads this afternoon (in about 12 hours) though. I'm just checking in on the forums now before I go to work.

Thanks, hopefully it will be smooth saling I will follow up with Vic (when he awakes from his much deserved rest), on the error message.

Steve, will HotJO be available for FLGS to order?

Joela! good to see you!

Right now I have no access to a distribution channel, I am working on one through Indie Press Revolution. They really liked feats 101 but wanted to review the color pdf further (they were out at conventions last week).

So for now its exclusive to paizo and our existing patrons.

Hey, Steve, you've been busy (and how!). Congrats!

IPR? Coolio. I buy stuff from them, too.

Steve, didn't want to steal your Thunder but I couldn't fine any mention of Heroes/Jade Oath on the Arcana discussion boards or product section on Monte Cook's website?

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

There are some problems with processing orders for this preorder bundle, so I've temporarily disabled purchasing it until we can fix it.

Yes, I just found it on the Malhavoc boards.

One question is Heroes/Jade Oath part of the offical "Land of the Diamond Throne" campaign world? They both use Arcana Evolved rules so I'm sure they could co-exist easily with each other (sorry if this quesiton is answered in the preview but I can't download until I get home from work). I'm just curious.

Thanks

Lord Vile,

Isn't that always the way finally ask the question only to find the answer on your own.

Nope, its the "Lands of the Jade Oath" campaign world.

If your looking for Diamond Throne stuff we have The Rituals of Choice adventure path and Litorians.

Steve

Correct. No official tie-in, however there's 3/4 of a globe left wide open in the official DT world of Serran, which does not appear in danger of official expansion any time soon....

when is the print version available

A print version of the BETA will be available in March.

An estimate on the OMEGA would not bear any resemblance to reality.

For what it's worth, once I got past the trouble I had buying it last night, the file downloaded just fine. I'm sorry my troubles got it taken off the purchase list.

I'd intended looking the book over tomorrow on my day off, but I found out today I need to be at work at 3:45 am to cover for someone on leave, so I'll have to put reading it off until I've caught up on sleep. :-(

Steve,

Thank you for the preview. I noted in the introdution section you reference the "imprisoned Dramojh" several times. Of course in AE they were the main bad guys till the giants came in and threw them from the their places of power.

Truth be told my group accedently freed an undead Dramojh on a side adventure during our Age of Worms campaign worse yet they had to work with that same creature to stop the Union of Eclipses from setting off the Quicksilver Hourglass.

To this day I use the threat of the returning Dramojh
to keep them from getting to cocky. Aside from Demogorgon or Kyuss/Dragotha there is no bigger Boogie Man in our campaign.

Point being our these Dramojh releated? Also will you be posting a preview of the Monks? I have one player that was planning on creating an oathbound but now is interested in your Monk class.

Yes, the Arcana Evolved limited licence Monte Cook graciously allows us to operate under, grants us the ability to reference IP found in any Arcana Evolved product.

Ask and Ye shalt Receive. I was going to put something else up but I have just uploaded the first 6 pages of our Variant Monk (there are 8 variants), its not a full preview like the Demon Hunter but I did make sure you can look at this Tables :)

Give Paizo a few and they should have it available for download.

Hi there. I'm sorry it took me so long to post here after the product announcement. Work has been real crazy this week.

I am glad to hear somebody likes our take on the monks. I tried to incorporate a lot of the different visions of what a monk should be and to do that it meant looking at what a monk is to different cultures and religions, not to mention the mythology and popular fiction that surrounds what monks are and do. I know I didn't capture all those visions of the monk, but I think I captured the ones that are most important to a setting like Lands of the Jade Oath.

So how adaptable will this be with PF? I would've loved to see this as a PF compatible book :)

As adaptable as Arcana Evolved is, or any other 3.5 ogl product, like say the Midnight Campaign Setting from Fantasy Flight Games. :)

I will work on getting the full BETA version of the Demon Hunter Class up on Tuesday so you can take a look for yourself.

Just on a side note Rite Publishing started with the project in August of 2008 and sold it to our patrons as a AE project there was no Pathfinder Compatibility Licence at that time we sold it to our patrons :)

Wayne Anthony Reynolds asked me to post this for him (something about never having posted to a forum and being and online dinosaur)

Quote:

"I have an interest in East Asian history so was immediately intrigued by the concept of Lands of the Jade Oath when Frank first contacted me in 2006. At the time Frank wanted me to create a Letterbox format image. (sized 11" x 33") However, it had to be made so that it could be split into three separate (triptych) images. I was given a list of characters and monsters that would feature in the illustration and a considerable amount of reference material consisting of written descriptions, concept sketches and weapon reference. I found the reference material to be very inspirational and a powerful impetus to begin working on the sketch image for the cover.

The section that is shown on the Heroes of the Jade Oath cover features a Demon Hunter and Enlightened Scholar characters fighting a vampire and some zombies. I was provided with an extensive written description for each character class - especially the Enlightened Scholar! The Scholar character also belonged to the mandragon race and as there were a lot of mandragon concept sketches to accompany the description too. The amount of source material for that character was extremely comprehensive. Combined with my own research images the reference material I'd amassed for the image ensured that I had plenty of information to draw upon.
The challenge was to take the source material to a new level but still keep the imagery culturally recognisable. I love this sort of work!

I recall that the Demon Hunter was fairly straight forward as a spell casting fighter type. I liked the idea of the character casting spells in the form of magically enhanced ofuda which made the concept delightfully oriental. Drawing upon my own references and knowledge I was able to indulge in adding lots of costume detail to this character too.

I had to make a number of corrections to the Scholar character at sketch stage as I was depicting a character from an entirely new race concept that I'd not seen before. However, I really enjoy world-building and find this sort of design work incredibly fulfilling.
I think the vampire was my own design and was a culmination from a written description and my own knowledge.

The LotJO cover image was an amazing project to work on. I got an opportunity to create new characters, creatures and monsters using extremely imaginative descriptions, inspired from a fascinating culture and mythology. I immensely enjoyed working on the painting and am thrilled that I was chosen to contribute the artwork for this game concept.

Aside from learning the magic system in AE it is not that difficult to adapt PF or 3.5 material to AE.

Sorry to be brief, and I can't speak for Jade Hero's but AE works like this:

1. Spells lvls 1-10
2. Schools are similar to stardard 3.5
3. The big difference is each spell is either simple, complex or exotic.

Simple Spells - basically any other spell caster classes can use this spell i.e. Greenbond/Druid, Witch, Mageblade, Runethane etc.

Complex Spells - only Magisters the wizards of AE has complete access to a Spell classified as Complex and of course they tend to be more powerful. Now a non-magister can access Complex Spells by obtaining certain descriptor feats say Energy:Fire or Psion. This allows the non-magisters basically to move allow complex spells with Fire or Psion to simple status and there by useable.

Exotic Spells - are the bone crushing metor swarm everything in a mile kind of spells (of course not all are that powerful) very difficult to get.

The AE magic system has allot more to it then that like Laden spell effects and/or heightend/diminished spells.

It takes a session or two adapt but myself and my group prefer AE over standard 3.5.

You could go over to Monte Cooks page (montecook.com) and check it out, he has allot of free stuff that you can download and take a look at.

New Preview is up Shenxue and their 10 aspects

Lord Vile
Pathfinding Arcana Evolved can be even simplier.

Treat AE as 3.5 OGL content you will need to use Combat Maneuvers, Skill points and skill name changes and bonus hit points for favored classes. Ignore the differences in the spell system, we have done this in Pathfinder/AE hybrids and have no issues.

That is what I would do to keep is simple.

Liberty's Edge

There is a fault in your system. Trying to buy it and it won't let me. Says it was removed from my shopping cart because the item is not available.

Please help. Mail me at aurore@aurore.org.uk please to let me know, as I wont necessarily be able to find this post or thread again.

Aurara, thank you so much!

I will let them know about the issue and coping this to your email along with the link to this thread.

Unfortunately since its the weekend I don't expect an answer till monday.
