Beyond the monsters that will slowly be recycled from older editions, what monsters that Paizo has created would you like to see (possibly updated to PFRPG rules) in the next Bestiary?

For me:
Mobogo (PF#12)
Cold Rider (E1)
Reefclaw (PF#7)

Linked the reefclaw for you :)

Its not official but it might be sufficient.

Tatzelworm. That's the one I really liked.
Goblin Snake. That's another one.
Ogrekin.
Flotsam Ooze. (Like the one in Savage Tide AP from Dungeon mag.)
Also I would like the templates updated such as the Osirian Mummy and stuff like that....

I'd like to see that cold-based (name?) template from Carnival of Tears updated.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 4

The monsters I'd most like to see updated are the Wendigo (Rise of the Runelords 6), the Azi (Legacy of Fire 6) and the Proteans (Great Beyond and Legacy of Fire 4).

Although I did indeed invent/design the flotsam ooze, I did so for WotC's Fiend Folio. As a result, it's not an open content monster, and not one we can use.

THAT SAID! Keep the thread going! We'll absolutely be picking up monsters from Pathfinder products to include in forthcoming Bestiaries, and it's always good to know which ones are well-liked!

Denizens of Leng, though they need a shorthand name.

The Coeurl — even though I know you would have to pay for the rights a second time — should go into a bestiary.

The Wendigo.

Evil Lincoln wrote:

That IS their shorthand name. Their real name takes 10.000 years to speak, and that only if you speak it with 7 mouths at once.

Roonies (also known as Rune Giants), the giants that put giant back into giant. Though I think they're pretty much usable as is.

The Lamia Matriarch (the one whose form resembles the classical Lamia (i.e. serpent lady) is another must-have (and in fact I was surprised it didn't make the Bestiary I

Revenants, Banshees and other very classical undead monsters, of course, need attention, too.

The Shining Child (of Thassalion) is interesting because it is an evil creature of light, which is a refreshing change from the usual "light = good, darkness = evil"

Haveros are powerful to give even 20th-level characters a run for their money, and represent the upper echelon of aberration threats.

And what about introducing flashwarping into the corebooks wholesale. The drider's already there, so let's add some Ghonhatine. Yes, it sounds like a pharmaceutical - and it is. It is a fast-acting, long-lasting treatment for cockiness in characters.

Another idea is to have a Urban Legend special, with Chupacabras, Mothmen, Locus Devils (Sandpoint/Jersey) and the like

Akatas made nice alien critters from beyond the stars, I liked them.

I guess I don't even need to mention Sirens, do I?

Fungal Crawler always had something disturbing about them. Half animal, half fungus? You shouldn't think about them and then go eat anything containing mushrooms.

Emkrahs, basically the misspent seed of gods - now that's all kinds of disturbing, too. Get them.

Beyond that, Fey, Fey, Fey! Oh, and Fey! We need far more of them.

And though I don't repeat stuff others have already mentioned, I will repeat Proteans, because.

James, there was an article that I loved in Dragon (forget the number) that had a bunch of low CR golems made from paper, tin and whatnot. Would Paizo be able to use some variation of them?

I knew it wasn't OC but I figured that you guys could pull out a similar idea but changed around a little. I loved the concept and it fit well.

We'd be able to make up new golems, yeah, out of pretty much ANY substance. Personally... I would not want to see things develop in that direction. Golems are tough. Lower CR golems of things made out of less sturdy material than ice start to feel like they should just be some sort of animated construct type thingy.

In any event, if we did do tin golems and paper golems, they'd have entirely different stat blocks than the ones from Dragon.

Moogle! Oh, wait, wrong company.

I'll second Evil Lincoln's call for the Denizen (of Leng), the wendigo, and the coeurl.

Regarding coeurl-related licensing fees: I'd rather pay a buck or two extra to get a bestiary with a coeurl in it than pay less for an otherwise identical bestiary without a coeurl.

I'd also happily pay extra for any bestiary that includes githyanki "soulsucks" licensed from George R. R. Martin. (According to Wikipedia, he's the one who invented the word 'githyanki.')

1) Derhii
2) Proteans
3) any of the Mythos creatures you've done so far (Denizens of Leng, Hounds of Tindalos, etc...)

Like a few others here I too would absolutely love to see updated STATS for a Couerl although I too understand the dramas involved in that happening.

What is a ReefClaw exactly?

Sounds like it would be a giant pistol shrimp, possibly a mantis shrimp...well, if it were cool, anyways.

What is the Courl? where's it from?

My favorites:

1)Wendigo (Spires of Xin Shalast)
2)Shining Child of Thassilon (Fortress of the Stone Giants)
3)Chained Spirit (Skeletons of Scarwall)
4)Danse Macabre (Skeletons of Scarwall)
5)Horrible Drow Fleshworks (Endless Night, 4th mod of 2nd Darkness)
6)Divs from Legacy of Fire
7)Sandpoint Devil (Burnt Offerings)
8)Revenant (Skinsaw Murders)
9)Mother of Oblivion (Hook Mountain Massacre)

Well, those Rune giants sure scared the hell out of me! It would be cool to se them in MM/bestiary.

And I also like Akatas very much, they are interesting bunch.

And the Wendigo. Altought it is also part of american mythpöpgy, still. Lord of the Mountains.

Reefclaws are pretty much big crustaceans with powerful claws and an eel-like lower body. There's a dock scene in the Core Rulebook (the one where a guy's getting his arm ripped off by a bunyip) that features a reefclaw.

The coeurl is from A.E. van Vogt's sci-fi story "Black Destroyer." They served as the inspiration for the closed-content displacer beast. Read more here.

Did anybody mention daemons yet? Because yeah...NEED those. I need my neutral evil fiends in a Bestiary. :D

Have they been stated up anywhere, other than the displacer beast that is.

As the actual couerl in one of the LoF AP issues, can't remember which one. But, its one of paizo's two closed content monsters, and they can't reuse it. Just like the deep crow.

Speaking of deep crow...

Paizo Employee Creative Director

The couerl and the deep crow will not be appearing in a Bestairy.

Most of the other monsters mentioned in this thread so far will be.

Aw. Well. I have the LoF version so I'm okay, it was out of altruism that I asked.

I liked the Edimmu from AP 20. The idea of genie binding gone wrong is cool, and the artwork for that monster is awesome. I don't really get why the CR for an undead genie is so low.

I'll second KaeYoss' vote for the Fungal Crawler in AP 13, although I wish the artwork captured the "pebbly mushroom caps" and fluted underside like the "gills ... located on the undersurface of a toadstool". The picture is not bad, and I like how it captures the cricket characteristics and the bulbous head, but you can't really see anything fungal. It's the mushroom characteristics that should do the most to make the monster disgusting and frightening. I wish we had a mushroom man like the Myconid (not in an AP as far as I recall), and I wonder how the two monsters might interact.
EDIT: I also like how this monster combines moldy and disgusting with the ability to leap. No escaping this nasty vermin!

Rot Grub from AP 25. I especially liked the infested undead idea.

Of course I want the Banshee and Peryton. It's hard to imagine those not getting in.

EDIT: The Black Blooded template in AP 18 is interesting. It reminds me of the black oil from X-Files.

The stats for both as they appeared in Pathfinder should work perfectly fine, actually.

While I have the AP with the Deep Crow in it, I had to cancel my subscription after I lost my job and never got the issue with the couerl. :(

oof... that does, unfortunately suck.

However... That volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path will remain in print for a long time, and it'll be available as a PDF even after that. It'll wait for you to get back on your feet, is what I'm saying.

As there seems to be some interest in both of these, the reason why these won't be coming back is because both were done with permission by the creatures' respective owners and our agreement allows only for a one-time publication. Soooo, cool monsters definitely, but - at least at the moment - we have no capability to revisit them.

All that aside, that is BEYOND helpful! If anyone wants to expand their lists out to the TOP TEN that'd be great. Keep it rollin' folks, I'm taking notes!

Darn! I've thought it, but I've kept from voicing that aloud for a very good reason. Now that its been said I have visions of Big Trouble in the Tian-Xian Colony. Not Good...(actually, that would be awesome!)

I suppose this one could be done via a template (not sure which would do it right though..)

- The Urd. Little flying kobolds with ivory horns (like oni) who love to drop rocks on the unsuspecting! One of my favorite and most heinous monsters of my entire DMing career. My players hated them more than they hated dragons and liches.

Others that would definitely top my list, but due to the issues, I understand. The Coeurl and the Deep Crow. Both were awesome monsters.

10) Banshee
9) Irnakurse
8) Templates! (Like Black-Blooded!)
7) Havero
6) Shining Child of Thassilon
5) Oni, more Oni!
4) Denizen of Leng (so awesome!)
3) Grave Knight
2) Hound of Tindalos
1) Pugwampis
