Never play antagonistically

Never play antagonistically.

Everyone is there to have a good time, and bringing hostility with you to a gaming table is a surefire way to diminish everyone's fun. If you're angry because of something out of game don't take it out on anyone at the table. If you're angry at someone you're currently gaming with then you should find a way to resolve it or forget about it if you can. This is true for everyone at the table, especially the GM. They can quickly ruin everyone else's fun.

We all have different play styles, and most gaming groups will be able to accomodate any playing style. That means everyone must be willing to conform, players and GM alike.

Arguments will certainly arise from time to time, don't trouble yourself with them too much. They'll be in the past soon enough. If you feel like you're being targetted for whatever reason, then at the very least you should act like an adult and find a means of resolving the problem and not escalating it further.

Ultimately, you have to convince yourself to have fun. Most of the problems you'll have at a gaming table you'll be carrying there yourself. Its up to you to save the day.

I know this might seem like common sense, but sometimes common sense needs to be said for it to actually be common.

Never game in anger...

It's amazing how many of these issues being discussed lately end up boiling down to things like trust, the golden rule, don't game in anger, and other things that, as you say, seem like they should be common sense, and yet appear somehow to be in short supply.

I love how you can distill long posts down to their essence! :D

I love how you distill long threads down and post the results elsewhere so that others might see them! ^^

This is a VERY good point. I do not know how many times over the years I've either been angry - usually due to getting pwn3d from work stress - or had one or more players show up to "vent spleen" at the table.

It almost always leads to an otherwise excellent game session turning to utter craptitude. Once in a while this even cans the campaign due to the dreaded Snowball Effect, aka the Poo Rolls Downhill Effect.

Having (eventually) learned this lesson, I will on occasion last-minute cancel a game when I pick up on such Ugly Things about to crop up on my side of the screen.

I certainly hope they do. Somehow, it seems that advice threads are overlooked in favor of reading gripe threads. :(

Some people think if a thread title has been flame-grilled, it will look tastier to the masses.

Liberty's Edge

Should I make the thread title more flamey next go round? I chose it because it sounded bossy, and that seems to attract a lot of attention.

Ahahaha! "Stop being so antagonistic when you play, you stupid @$$ *()^%&%(^&* &*^&*(^#@$#*s!"

ROFL

Edit: now that I've wiped the tears from my eyes, can I quote you on that?

(Tongue-in-cheek) But... but... that's taking away my rights and freedoms as a player HOW DARE YOU TELL ME NOT TO GET ANGRY THAT ONLY MAKES ME MORE ANGRY AND YOU WON'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M ANGRY!!!!!!

lol, nice thread Studpuffin, hopefully the message hits home.

You owe me some expensive beer now, Kyrt-ryder. Also, I think I might have to have some esophageal surgery or something after that. At least I was able to aim away from the laptop.

Sure, Studpuffin, quote away. Just use my real life name: Sebastian.

I'm sorry Sebastian, I refuse to support anyone's drinking habit. You should get help for that ;)

You obviously have had no exposure to the kink community.

Liberty's Edge

So you matched my hidden pun with your own. Pass the plate...cannibalism was one of the few things I wasn't accused of by posterity.

I never thought this thread would go this way.

<hangs head in shame>

At least its a fun thread, if not overly full of good advice.

No it's a wonderful effort Studpuffin, and you are well thanked for it. Sorry if I took it 'off topic' as it were ...

Liberty's Edge

It's no real problem, someone will just post this again in a month hopefully. Just keeps the thread bumped. I wonder how many people avoid the initial post though to read the hilarity that ensued instead. I blame no one, the paizo community has a way of taking good advice to heart rather quickly.

Are you paradoxically noting that the thread is languishing due to lack of antagonism?

Liberty's Edge

I am saying, sir, that Paizonian general philosophy dictates that invariably a good thread must be filled with that which the OP declares important... in this case it is fun!

Your concepts of "fun" and "antagonism" are so bourgeoisie...

Liberty's Edge

Let the bourgeoisie revel in the revolution of fun then!

+1 to Studpuffin's way of thinking.
