The Master Fix for Small Eidolons, or: Hi Ho Summoner, Away!

Round 2: Summoner and Witch

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Skilled (ride): 1 evolution point
Mounted Combat: 1 feat
Exotic Riding Saddle: 30 gp

Having your small serpentine eidolon negate one hit on your level 1 summoner per round with a ride check at +12: priceless (and awesome)

LOL this is conversely the most brilliant idea ever, and the worst idea ever... any DM that allows this should be shot.

Well, if its restricted to small eidolons it'd hardly be over powered if yuo had to ride it to gain its effects.. given that the mount has to be larger than you and the example one is a "small serpent".

It'd be about the most worthless expenditure of feats/evolution points ever except for the DM's diminutive VTEG (very tiny evil guys).

Selgard, in Soviet Russia, the eidolon rides you.

umm I think he means that he gets ridden by his eidolon. not the other way around.

Yep. Eidolon needs an exotic saddle 'cause bum humans aren't built proper for riding.

I'm going to do this. Level 2 eidolon feat is Skill Focus (Ride).

Although Animal Affinity would be a funnier way for the eidolon to relate to the summoner :D

*facepalm* Talk about playing the eidolon instead of the summoner.

Oh this is FANTASTIC. Maeloke, you always do good work, but you have topped yourself this time, if for no other reason than how hard I laughed.

And for pretty flavor, my friend has this to add: "I do like the idea of a snake whispering in the ear of the incompetent summoner and steering him out of harm's way."

You want another example?

Ratatouille!

Of course a rat would be Tiny, not Small, but pretty dang close.

Edit: Always get sizes wrong, stupid words meaning different things.

Could make them humanoid and use a lance from your back. If they're small then one of those baby back carriers would work fine.

Shield and lance does have a charm to it, but when you're that small, you're not very strong, so the lance doesn't really do a lot for you. I like reach with a finessed, poisonous stinger (wielded essentially like a lance). That said, you'll have to have arms (or make ride checks for guiding with 'knees'), so you could definitely carry a shield either way.

The best part about this all though is level 18, when the summoner takes the Large evolution and eidolon can scale up to Medium size. THEN you really could do the lancer build justice.

Eidolon really is a good mounted class, though. Mount can self-buff and donate HP to the rider, while the eidolon can teleport to the mount as a free action, grant it sizeable bonuses to AC and saves, and even improve its senses!
