Wrong faction for character

Pathfinder Society

Dark Archive

My character's (Rone) faction was reported incorrectly. I played my first session on 11/17 as a member of the Cheliax faction, but it is showing as Qadira when I view sessions.

My GM was not able to change it. Is this some that Paizo can do on the backend?

Thanks for your help.

Also, my GM suggested creating a second character with a slightly different name and he would just resubmit the session. Before doing that I figured that I would check with Paizo.

Sovereign Court

I have a similar problem in that I am unable to change this character's faction to Taldor in the Pathfinder Society control panel (it automatically picked Osirion for me when I created the character).

Thanks in advance!

These should be fixified.

Wow! Thanks Ross.

You guys have a customer for life. I am really impressed by the interaction between Paizo employees and the rest of the community on the forums. It really sets you apart from other companies.

Looking forward to Origins, so I can shake a few hands :)

Unfortunately, there won't be any Paizo employees at Origins. We will be at PaizoCon, GenCon, and I'll be at Dragon*Con this year.

I'm sure that Ross will also accept cash gifts if you can't make it to PaizoCon :)

Josh would be at Origins but there's not enough scantily-clad ladies in attendance. He'll only be at Dragon*Con until he finds a guy named "Brooks", then he will be available through his attorney at 254 Peachtree Street Southwest (Atlanta City Jail). [Just kidding!!!]

Webmaster or Josh: I'm having this trouble too. I need to create a new character that's Taldor, and it picked Andoran for me without (apparently) giving me an opportunity to select a faction.

The system shouldn't actually create a character record until you click "submit changes". Right now, a new record is created the instant you click the "create new character" link. Suppose you do that accidentally, or for whatever reason you change your mind. Bad user interface to create a record by clicking a link, rather than a button. People are used to buttons as instruments of creating records, not links. Because issue of this I have two useless character records associated with my account.

Two, it appears from the interface that you should select an avatar image when you create your character, but if you click "next" to see the next group of images before hitting the "save change", it resets any information you change except for faction, which is locked in (as near as I can tell) when you hit that "next" link.

I think you should be able to change your faction or delete your character altogether and start over if you don't have any sessions recorded for that character. Once there are sessions recorded, then fine, you're locked down. Until then, however, you should be able to edit everything.

There are several known issues at play here. I'll point Ross toward this thread.

Same problem here, today. Over all the whole reporting system is clunky and error prone. A more reliable and intuitive system might significantly increase GM reporting.

There are many issues being worked on with regards to the reporting system. Simply saying, "it's error prone and sucks" doesn't help us, though. What errors are you seeing? Why does it suck? We can't improve it if you don't tell us what's wrong. :-)

Josh,

Replies like this are why i have accused you in the past of having the kill the messenger approach to problem solving. As best as i can tell you are replying to a poster who was merely seconding a fairly detailed description of his problems with the interface.
I agree with kwixson btw. Nothing should be saved until the submit button is hit. The way it works now does suck. Other than you i am the first in the thread to use those words.

I both appreciate and respect your position uncleden. I'm serious about stamping out all of the issues with the reporting system and getting it to a point where the majority of my GMs are satisfied with it. It's from that serious desire to make the system work better for all of you that I ask what issues he specifically had with the system. Is he just agreeing with the problem above? Or are there other issues he might be aware of? I have no intention of killing the messenger--I have every intention to fix the problems, though. And your feedback helps me do it! :-)

Someday I hope we can meet, uncleden, and you can get a better sense of me in person. I'm pretty direct online and never to intentionally be a jerk. I can appreciate why you seem to repeatedly see me in that light and I hope to someday change that.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! It really does help us to improve.

Having meet Josh a few times I can back this up. He is not asking his questions to make a point about how people provide feedback, he is actually trying to get people to provide more feedback.

Best that I can explain Josh is that he seems to a cut to the chase kinda guy, because he would just like to get everything right ASAP. But thats just IMHO. otherwise, he's a likeable guy, otherwise I wouldn't keep signing up to run games at GenCon for him and Paizo.

Hey, thanks Michael! I appreciate that. You're right--I'm a cut to the chase kind of guy and would love to see more feedback. In fact, you can see a number of threads in these forums where I've solicited such feedback. I have no interest in making changes in a vacuum--that just leads to people making assumptions about my character and thinking nasty thoughts about me. I want to make changes based on whatever everyone "in the wild" thinks about the system. If I've thought up the best solution ever for something and 500 players say, "Gyaaaah, that doesn't work!" then I know I can scrap the idea and find something better.

The Society is improving. As I told Doug Doug in an email a week or so ago, we're a battleship and we don't turn as fast as we'd like. Rest-assured we're turning and sooner (rather than later) we'll have our guns pointed in the right direction. I think we're nearly there.

I have the wrong faction problem for my #2 PFS character (10468-2, named "Bitter") -- he seems to have inherited the same faction of my first character (Duhwoo/Taldor), and I see no way to change Bitter to Osirion...is it possible for users to correct the faction, or does someone at Paizo have to do it?

It depends ...

From the Pathfinder Society Home Page follow the link on the right - Register you character. A list of characters should appear. Next to the character you have an edit button.

Provided no games have been reported for that character, it is possible to change faction. All the factions are displayed and you can chose the faction you want.

This is also the VERY crucial step if you generate a new character. It might start with a random faction - but you still can change it - and you better do this straight away.

Once reporting has started, you are stuck. You can change the name - but not the faction. I think this also happens if a GM reports a new character for you. It will appear with the name and faction the GM has given it. So best write the session reports clearly and ensure your faction is clearly indicated.

Names can be changed later !! Factions not.

The second game onwards it is simple for the GM - your name and faction will automatically be filled out (unless the server is very slow).

Hope this helps

Thod

If you can't fix the issue as noted above, then send me an email and I'll correct this for you. josh@paizo.com

I'm hitching a ride on this thread. My second character (Del'lisan 8830-2) has always shown as Qadiran. She should be listed as Chelaxian. Like Duhwoo, she seems to have inherited this from my first character.

I have reported it once before, but it never seems to get fixed. Also, no "edit" option appears next to her faction icon, as Thod suggests to look for. That option appears next to other characters of mine, but they have not played any sessions. Del has 12, at this point, and things seem locked in. She's grumpy because those dirty Qadirans are getting credit for her work...

Drogon. Email me with your Society number and the name that needs to have the faction corrected.

Liberty's Edge

I'm in the same boat. I played a witch for the fist time last wednesday and my GM correctly reported it via the number I gave him (Thanks Chris!)

Unfortunately I played the mission as an Osirion, but it's registered as Chelaxian.

I'll send you an email Josh.
