Having said that, my .02 is that what is so cool about wondrous items is if it is a GM item or not, they can be used by anyone and everyone. Heck I GM'd a party made up of entirely rogues. This was the greediest, most exciting party I have ever GM'd. They didn't care if it was a 300gp magic item or not, they wanted it. It was pretty funny because the whole campaign was pretty much..."your doing what???" make another use magic device check LOL. There wasn't enough portable holes for this party to hoard their loot. Often enough the loot would be transferred from one hole to another....willingly or not!

Back to the point from Vic, if it is a wondrous item, if it is designed well and has "mojo" or cool factor, being a "GM" item will not make a difference. It can be used.
tejón wrote:Vic Wertz wrote:If you're talking about what I think you might be talking about, the reason for rejection wasn't that the item appealed only to the GM, but that the item could have just as easily been entitled "Magic Plot Hammer."

A npc-favored wondrous item does not necessarily equate to a plot device.

Players have odd priorities about magic items sometimes. Especially optimizers and their close cousins, the munchkins; specifically with slotted items.

I've seen many really cool items with a lot of flavor and style and genuine usefulness.. get passed over just because the player doesn't want to dedicate a slot to that item. Sometimes they carry it around for a while to think about it, and end up selling it later. They might really want the item, but not enough to dedicate that slot to it. You see that a lot with anything occupying a belt or a headband slot. Cloaks too.
