(yes I know the header's spelled wrong)
Ok, one of the quirks I have is I will spell in the Queen's English (don't know why, always have). Since I come from this side of the pond, will I be docked on spelling if I say "The <redacted> is the colour of dried blood, streaked with gray?"
This question came up in previous years. Generally, I don't think they dock you for it as an initial entry into the Top 32. But from that point forward, you have to show you can write with the proper spelling used in an actual published product.
Personally, my rule of thumb is that you should pretty much always emulate the styles and spelling of a publisher from the very beginning. So, if you keep slipping back into the Queen's English, I'd start ditching that habit in your freelance writing as soon as you can.

Thank you fortunately my spellcheck is set for American. :-)
Sad thing is, I'm stateside born, and proud of being a redneck. I've never been to the UK or any of her dominions.

Unless the publisher demands it, like for example Mongoose Publishing.

Exactly. As I said, "...you should pretty much always emulate the styles and spelling of a publisher from the very beginning." If Mongoose uses Queen's English, then that's what you should use. And, since Paizo doesn't, that's what you should avoid.

Wouldn't the Queen's English be grey?

Spelling in one language is not my strong point, let alone 2 :P
(and I always seem to get those backwards)

I don't believe we've eliminated anyone based on UK vs. US spelling.
That's good to hear, although if I were writing for a UK publisher I'd expect they'd want different spellings from a US one.
When I'm writing for my own blog I'm always debating Armor/Armour and Color/Colour. :)

I'm English, but I've always had to default to american for HTML and BBC encoding on message boards, so I've kinda gotten used to the use of 'color' over 'colour', I've always had a bit of a sore spot for 'honor' though, as it always seems the Brit spelling 'honour' makes more sense (we honour OUR own, so to speak)
