Another witch question

Round 2: Summoner and Witch

When a witch uses a hex that they must touch a target, do they provoke
an attack of Opertunity? It states that the ACT of provoking a hex does, but what about when you have to touch?

It would be just like delivering a spell with a touch attack. The touch is obvious dangerous so its treated as armed, because you definitely don't want to be anywhere near that hand if its coming at you.

That's my take on it.

The thing is, the hex is not a spell or spell-like ability, so there is no option to hold the charge. You can't hex, move, touch; you can't hex, wait a round, touch. You have to use it when already within touch range.

Jason is aware of the issue and is considering a few options. "Just remove the provocation" is getting the most votes, but we'll see where he goes with it.

I think he was more asking "We all know the hex itself provokes, does the touch attack provoke as well?"

This. I'm pretty sure this is RAW.

The problem with Hex (Su) and provoking AoO is that with spell-like abilities and spells you can cast them defensively (using concentration). With supernatural abilities, there's no such luxury (if IIRC) making touch-based Hexes a very, very bad option in combat.

IMHO, Hexes should never provoke AoO.
