Cavalier as a class is redundant

Round 1: Cavalier and Oracle

Why? Read the paladin, then close your eyes and think of all the famous knights of legends and many of them are paladins. But I dont want a lawful GOOD knight you say. I want the Green Knight or the Black knight. Ok. I think the knight or if you must call him Cavalier for whatever reason would be better as a prestige class. The ideas of Banners, challanges etc are great, but I believe would be better as a prestige class. The thing is the base classes are just so well done that having more seems redundent.

I completely agree. As soon as I saw that Paizo planned on making the "Cavalier" one of their new base classes I face palmed. As the game stands, you can play a cavalier using the Fighter base class. What I was hoping most of all was that they would revamp the Swashbuckler class since as it stands Dex melee fighters are at a severe disadvantage.

Cavalier is one of those classes that seems to force a style of play that seems to counter the idea of a base class which should set a player up with the tools to form their character in any way they want. With the Cavalier class as it is, I see every player who plays one to make characters that are so similar that it will quickly lose its flare and fun. Whereas the Fighter base class can practically cover all spectrums of physical combat, Cavalier seems to force a player to A) Ride a Mount and B) Use only melee weapons. There really is no room for variety and customization other than the "Orders," but even those don't really provide a huge level of variety in the player characters.

I think that Swashbuckler, a.k.a. a dex and int Fighter would have been a much more interesting alternative base class since as it is a player needs to spend an incredible amount of feats just to be able to fight half as decent as a Str-based Sword and Board Fighter.

Oh well, love the Oracle though. It really is a lot of fun to watch players play it. Looking forward to seeing the Summoner (I am not satisfied with the potency of a conjuration-school focussed wizard as is), the Alchemist, and the Inquisitor. Not thrilled with the sound of Witch though, sounds like the Warlock which was a really dumb base class with Sorceror as a class option.

These threads are for debating and discussing the features of the classes themselves. Calling for a removal or alteration to a prestige class is not something we are considering at this time.
