Dark Folk

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Has anybody thought about the place / role / origin of the dark folk on golarion? I would love to let them appear in my CotCT campagne, so under Korvosa.

My first thought was to link them to Cheliax. Perhaps are the dark stalkers descendend from a human noble family and the dark creepers were their very good treated halfling servants, before they were driven into the Darklands by the devil worshippers after Aroden's death.

Read here on the PathfinderWiki. Should answer some queries for ya. :)

Yeah! Thanks Lilith, great link! My take couldn't provide the dark folk with enough time to degenerate anyways. And since Azlanti ruins can be found in Varisia as well, everything fits quite well.

Not Golarion per se but you might find Frog God Games Cyclopean Deeps 3+4 of interest if you're into Dark Folk.

Yes! They're my pet race for the year. Stay tuned for more, but I promised you'll be better served on dark folk details in the coming months then you were before. ;)

Were we served anything Dark Folk related previously? (Apart from the Bestiary entries, obviously.)

Council of Thieves spoiler:
There were a number of them in the forces of evil in CoT. Artifact of shadow-y doom in the hands of the vampires and links to Nidal. Fun stuff.

!

YES.

I've had a Dark Stalker expy of the merchant from Resident Evil 4 serving as the "face" NPC for Kaer Maga for our local groups for a while. Eager to see where these guys are coming from. AND why they are so explodey. :)

I [heart] dark folk.

Dark Archive

Awesome, I'd already written up Dark Folk variations for 'Dark Magi' (arcane casters) and 'Dark Acolytes' (divine casters), but it will be neat to see official stuff.

Aww, now there's dark folk-stuff everywhere!

Seriously, though, more dark folk details = yes, please.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

I'm a huge fan of the dark folk--I tend to run them as shiftless merchant folk, rather than being truly sinister--I was strongly inspired by the Goblin Market in Courtney Crumrin years ago and that conception has stayed with me for years.

Shadow Lodge

Yes. I put a bunch of them in a home-brew adventure I attempted a few years ago, though I gave them all cockney accents, with something more subtle for their Dark Stalker boss.

...Unfortunately, since the last session of it was while everyone was still just level 3 and everyone knew it, I figured the best way to end it was with everyone getting taken out in the boss’ death explosion, their goal achieved.

I love the Dark Folk. I often put them in direct contention with the Drow, and use them as a (slightly) more welcome merchant/trading partner with select surface villages and towns.

Dark Archive

The Dark Folk being (mostly) non-evil makes them far more useful, narratively, than the Drow, in my experience. They can make unreliable allies-of-convenience, for instance, without being *guaranteed* to be treacherous. It's less of a stretch to use them in a much wider variety of roles than just 'dudes we stab for GPs and XPs.'

It's not "Dark Folk"!

It's Differently Light Able Persons.

Pardon me gentle-beings. Please note that the link that Lilith posted several years ago has become out of date in the mean time. The current PathfinderWiki has a much more up-to-date article on Dark folk.

To start, Bestiary 4. But there's something else coming down the road that I expect will have some more Golarion-centric details. For now: patience. ;)

So any news on when/if we'll be seeing details on the dark folk?

Good news!

AP SPOILERS:
They have a respectable presence in Mummy's Mask,, both in the Wati article in Half-Dead City and in the adventure itself in Empty Graves. There's different dark folk set up as enemies and potentially friendly NPCs, as well as an unusual take on dark folk and how they can fit into Osirion that makes a ton of sense.

Also....maybe a possible dark stalker love interest?

seems like it could be an explosive relationship

If you have Half Dead City on you, look for Unwrapped Harmony and her crew in the Wati article. I believe they're in the Necropolis section. :)
