It's always nice to see new 3rd-party Pathfinder RPG books coming in printed form!

Dude... I totally want this! (Adds to Xmas list.)
I'd be very interested in seeing a review from anyone who has actually read it.

Is there going to be a PDF version of this ?

Thought I saw on the TLG forums that the goal/desire was to have this out before the end of the year. Can't seem to find the link, so take this with a grain of salt - mind may be playing tricks on me... o.O

They say it shouldn't take long, but they didn't give a date.

Anyone know how much of this is their old book revisited?

If this is what I think it is I got the 3.5 version way back in the day. Never used it, but thought it had interesting ideas.

Sounds interesting. I'm interested to hear about the ideas for expanding the current roles of companions. Will there be/is there a preview?

Mmmm, like the subject matter, the topic and the company making it! Gogo!

Chenault and the guys at Troll Lord Games know a good dnd game when they see one! Glad to see this happening! Can't wait to see in what ways Troll Lord can partner with PAIZO in the future as well! (total stocking stuffer!)

I bought the 3E version of this and loved it! They have Casey doing the conversions to PF. This never got much traction with 3E since this came out right around the time of the 4E announcement, so I hope Pathfinder fans buy it and enjoy all the cool ideas in it like I did back when I still played 3E.

Remember, I don't play Pathfinder either, I'm just a fan of Paizo and Troll Lord Games.

Paizo's Advanced Players Guide playtest preview of the Witch base class is due out in a few days which is supposed to have expanded rules for familiars. I think there might be real opportunity here for Troll Lord Games to keep an eye on the Witch playtest to see what synergies exist between the APG Witch and TLG Familiar products, or at least keep the mechanics consistent.

I'm doing the editing on the Familiars book now for TLG, so thanks for the heads up on this. I'll check into it.

I have the 3.0 version of this, and while I can't say that I've playtested the content or even given it an in-depth reading from cover to cover (I'm currently creating my first rogue with familiar PC), alot of the options presented for the various classes are really interesting, and, at first glance, seem well-balanced.

Using the Summon Familiar feat, PCs of different classes have the opportunity to summon familiars that are unique to their classes. The summoning rituals also vary by class, and are quite flavourful. Other feats enable you to further enhance your bond with your familiar, and to gain more powerful familiars at higher levels. There are also expanded rules for animal companions.

While I don't know that I would need to upgrade my 3.0 version to the PFRPG version, I'm happy to see TLG revising and reprinting this for PFRPG. I know some folks who might be interested in this. It's a product that fills a specific and oft neglected niche really well.

I hope, however, that TLG can put this one out in a timely fashion... meeting deadlines has never been their forte. You'd think this would be a relatively easy thing to update, given that most of the material has already been written and much of it is compatible with the PFRPG.

I have the edit on it, as I said above. It's taking me a little while to find all the Pathfinder nuance differences and bring those in. It's moving along, however.

When will this be available?

As a guess? At least another 60 days. They have the M&T of Aihrde, the Mass Battles boxed set, and the next issue of Crusader magazine ahead of it, apparently.

OH I cant wait! I play a ranger & love to see more animal companions aside from the core & beastiary books, like maybe some new & original beasts. Ive always wanted to play a bard with an animal companion that responds to song.

No offence intended, Christina, and I can appreciate that finding the nuances between game systems can be tricky. But when one looks at how long the Castle Keeper's Guide has been "on the anvil," and how long it took to release the Castle Zagyg hardcover and boxed set, it becomes evident that adherence to a firm release schedule generally has not been TLG's strong point...

I do hope it'll have a few decent Prestige Classes in it.

This sounds interesting. How many pages is it?

And as a general request to paizo staff would you please list page count on all product listings?

They won't know page count until it is laid out. The 3E version is around 128 pages, so this should be similar.

Release will likely be August or later, judging by their focus on their CKG and anticipated release date for it.

We can't put page count up if we don't know what it is. Because this is not being done by Paizo, but rather a third party publisher, we don't get that kind of information in the solicitation.

Any news when this is going to released?

I haven't seen anything mentioned about this in months, so no idea. Maybe Christina has been told something.

So what's the latest on the release date on this?

The last official word from Troll Lord I can find is that it went into editing in January...

Nothing official has been stated, but this will not be finished until after the Castle Keepers Guide for Castles and Crusades is out. So I am guessing we will not see this in print until January 2011 or later.

Well nuts.

The barbarian in my group is going to take a familiar next level from the 3.5 edition of the book, and I was hoping the PFRPG version would be out before then.

According to Troll Lord's website, this will be 180 pages, so that is a lot more content than the 128 page 3rd edition version. Also, if the date is accurate, it says the book will be available in their shop on Dec 1st, though that may just be when you can start pre-ordering it from them.

Here is the link.

Another book that I have been waiting on for over a year. Ah well least I didn't preorder this one. :)

Trust me. The Troll Lords most likely dont know yet either. My only gripe is that they are putting out pathfinder stuff and putting thier much late Castles and Crusades books out.

It sure is taking a long time for this book to come out. Looks like it could be a good one. There doesn't seem to be many rules for familiar junkies in any of the previous editions.

I've sent an email to the publisher, and if I find anything out, I will pass it along.

Yeah sadly at this point I think this one is just vapor ware. :(

Book of Familiars == Duke Nukem Forev--- oh that doesn't work anymore.

For those who might still care...

I see no signs of a forthcoming PFRPG version on the TLG website, only a Castles and Crusades version.

Contributor

They decided to move forward with it in C&C, though I'm checking back with them to see if they still want to move ahead with the PF version.
