Silver Crusade

First: Stay after the credits.

ATTEMPTED NOT-SPOILAGE WHY YOU MAY NOT WANT TO DO SO:

Spoiler:
Unless you prefer open-ended endings.

Man this had to be a tough shoot for Liam Neeson.

The movie isn't really advertised accurately, but it's still worth checking out even if you want the movie that the trailers promise.(which, honestly, would probably still be money well spent)

REAL SPOILER:

Spoiler:
It may leave one wanting to watch some more upbeat fare afterwards though. Like say...The Way Back or Oldboy.

I wanted to like this movie, but every decision Liam Neeson's character made was wrong, wrong, wrong. He's a helluva sniper, but he's a craptacular survivalist. My reaction to him wanting to leave the wreckage?

"Okay. Good luck. I'll stay and make the shelter defensible. Dumbass."

But his character in the movie isn't a survivalist like Bear Grylls or some other similar person; he's just the guy who knows how wolves think. He's resourceful, and that helps him follow through with his actions, but I agree that just about every decision was wrong.

Regarding the decision to leave wreckage.:
We can't really say what would have been a better decision. Staying there would have made it easier for the rescue teams to find them, and the materials would have made for a great hardened shelter, but the resources were extremely limited. If the wolves had camped the area to pick them off, they wouldn't have lasted long without having to venture out to find food and fire fuel. I probably would have tried to take a couple of the healthier guys into the woods on a clear day to bring back as much wood and foliage as possible for fuel and insulation. Pine needles can be used to make a kind of tea that's high in vitamin C, and the bark is edible, if bitter. And lots of pine needles crammed into the nooks and crannies of the wreckage shelter would help insulate the place. Water was plentiful, it just had to be melted and boiled, but that was probably a bit on the difficult side...

I stayed after the credits...:
...that was a really long wait for such a little payoff. Really didn't close that open ending all the way.
