Any news about when the playtest will begin?
I'm especially looking forward to the new classes, since we'll be starting a new campaign very soon (Council of Thieves) and I'm really itching to try/playtest a Cavalier or Inquisitor.
Latest info I could find from Jason was from back in August.
The Witch and the Inquisitor were announced at GenConOz (mid-September) as was the preview of the Oracle that now appears on the Paizo Blog.
At the GenConOz seminar, Jason said they were keen to open the playtest, IIRC within a short time of his return from GenConOz. I dare say if the Advanced Players Guide is scheduled to debut at GenConIndy 2010, they'll be wanting to conduct this playtest sooner than later to allow time for development etc. I could be wrong, but the impression I got was it would be happening within the next few weeks (if not, sooner?)

Well, we know it takes several months to finalize the product, send it to the printers overseas, get it printed, ship it back overseas, clear customs, and ship it to distributors. Call it four or five months. Gencon 2010 is early August. That means if they want to have the APG in stock at Gencon, they need to have the beta tests finished by sometime around March or so at the latest. March is about six months out. Depending on how they distribute the beta testing load, I'd say it's a pretty good bet we'll see at least the Oracle before the end of the month.

Well, according to James Jacobs, the playtest gets bumped back one day every time I mention that the name of the oracle class should be changed.
Which seems unfair, because the class should clearly be renamed. :P
You're right. Unfortunately, you just bumped it back a day.
Oh wait...

hopefully that was a joke
or else playtesting will begin on April 14, 2017

I assumed that it was a subtle way of saying: "Lay off it, it ain't going to change, so stop pestering us and everyone else about it!" ;-)

Um, not really. Since I am pretty sure I am one of the biggest culprits in the oracle controversy. I don't think Mr Jacobs likes me anymore

ok, i cannot wait for this play-test, but alas i will have too. I know there are a bunch of "conversions" of the artificer, but the role that the class filled for NPC's (or even a PC of mine) was just excellent. The Alchemist class looks to me like a "finally" pathfinder artificer. I know it wont be a craft'er, but the name and implied role of the class will fill those shoes nicely.
Ps: I like the name of the Orical and Summoner, I'm not too keen on Cavalier as that implies horseman. Maybe Knight? or Warlord? or Dragoons? well can't think of anymore that don't already have connotations.
dragoons = knights deployed by horse by the British. this implies good on horse, not only thing he's good at. A little closer to what they were trying to imply.
That my two copper.

Cavalier is a classic 1e class name, much nostalgia attached.

ah...as i am not familiar with 1e but 2e+, now i understand why. I too am a person of tradition and can understand their reasons for choosing the name then.

Could it be...?
Might the playtest kicking off tomorrow, Friday, be what Vic is hinting at HERE?

My theory is they will be announcing the playtest start date and schedule tomorrow.

November is all we're willing to commit to at the moment. I suspect it will be soonish, and there is zero chance of it slipping beyond then. But we don't want to release any class before it is truly ready for playtesting.
All of Wayne Reynolds's new iconic characters have been sketched, which was one necessary component. I missed today's design meeting because I'm at World Fantasy in San Jose today, but Jason is finalizing the first couple of classes right now.
In fact, I'm helping him with a couple of oracle bits I should be writing instead of posting to the Paizo boards!

I've been subtly trying to give you guys a scaup. But if I teal too much, I'll need to run for muscovey. But you will totally be gadwall when you find out why I am writing this stupid post! Friday. Friday.

Paizo has FINALLY listened to my many, many letters and worked the archaic word for a group mallard ducks (a "sord" of mallards) into the new game "Sords and Sorcery: Ducks and Dragons". I'm so glad to see you folks producing this; I think it's going to be a really solid product! I especially look forward to the Wayne Reynolds art of the noble Hen Queen Amvarria protecting her stash of golden eggs from the dreaded aurumvorax.

Now I am worried that my hints are TOO subtle and nobody except for about 5 people are going to get them and those five people probably aren't even reading this thread!
This is what happens when you try to get too cute for your own good. :)

I'm very excited about this book... you can never have too many play options! I've read the teaser material and have only one question for the friendly Paizo folks:
Would the "...and more" material include any additional Prestige Classes?
Yes, that IS a shameless attempt to wheedle more information. :)
