Hmmmmnnnnnnnnn...

Note - I am NOT stalking you Lisa!

;-P

Just looking at the preview pics of them that one of the game stores I've ordered from sent out. They all look really good, but why is Harsk wielding his axe? I mean, sure, he probably needs to wield his axe a lot at higher levels to actually get in multiple attacks and all, but he's sort of the crossbow guy. the fact that it's there is nice, but the lack of it being wielded strikes me as odd.

Note that this is more rhetorical than not. It just is a sort of "huh?" moment with the figure. He looks good, but it's just something that struck me as unexpected.

May have to get some of them ogres. Not sure...

I think it's because it's harder to sculpt an action shot with a crossbow. Even a bow can show action in the shooter drawing back the string, but a crossbow involves a single trigger finger, which is more difficult to capture at such a small scale.

Any word on whether or not there will be a subscription available for the minis?

Not anytime soon. Please see this post for some of the reasons.

I think it is very much this, and the fact that the pose he is in makes it easier for miniature hobbyists to do weapon conversions (e.g., for that model, swap in a different axe blade, turn it into a staff or a spear, etc.). Not everyone will want to use the miniature for the Harsk character, and poses that make conversions easy are highly desirable.

Characters holding a crossbow? The way they're held, you're not going to be able to easily convert them into holding anything else. I do note at least the crossbow is beautifully sculpted onto the character.

'Course, that's just my guess.

Any idea if Reaper plans to release Karzoug or Scribbler at the lower price point? I'd love to pick these up but dollars is tight and I will be sad to discover I could have saved a few bucks by waiting for a Reaper release.

No idea. Reaper has access to all of the Crocodile sculpts, but they are under no obligation to use them all if they don't want to. As an educated guess, I would assume that Karzoug would have a much higher chance of getting made than the Scribbler, but there are no guarantees that either of them will ever see the light of day. Or perhaps they both will.

Those are some great new minis! The price point is very good as well. I still need to see some kobolds though! :)

Erik brought by a bunch of them and I'm going to be tweeting on the Paizo twitter account as I make progress on them. They really do look great. :)

If you were impressed with the figures that were just released, take a look at Reaper's news page and look at the red dragon that's coming up (slated for next May).

It will blow your mind!

Wow.

Who are the two dwarf Pathfinders they list at the bottom of their Pathfinder listing here?

When you click on pathfinder, it searches the names of the peices for the word pathfinder, as these two 'dwarf pathfinders' were named thus before they got the line, they pop up as well...

I just went there, was amazed, and headed over here to make sure someone mentioned it. That is the cover art, right down to the broken statue it is standing on.

Wow! I'm very tempted to get it, even though I am scared to paint a dragon.

Reaper really brings the artwork to life - the details are all there.

Grand Lodge

In the past I was worried about painting dragons, but I've gotten over it (for the most part) by remembering that it's no different than any other miniature, except there's just more of it.

The main thing to remember is take it easy and if you're mixing paints, make sure you mix up enough to do everything you need to do, OR create a recipe so that you can reproduce the colors later. I've gotten where I keep a notebook with all the figures that I work on with what colors are done where (at least for my better stuff). Now the 1/2 dozen gnolls for the Howl of the Carrion King game I'm running, well, those are speed-painted assembly line style.

I've done a Warhammer Dragon and Wyvern, both with riders. The Wyvern was first, and is still one of my best painted miniatures.

They are not so bad so long as you take them slow. I actually found the riders the hardest in both cases, as they are more fiddly.

The only dragon that really "scares" me is the old Rackham Titan Wyrm. First off, because it was about $250 I don't want to screw it up, but mainly because it is so freaking big. It stands something like 18" tall with at least that wingspan. It's truly a monster.

Dragons are easy. Base color + drybrush = at least a B-quality paint job. Doing touch-up work on eyes, mouth, claws, and individual scales can make it an A-quality paint job, but a basic drybrush generally gives nice results because they have so much texture.

I only got to paint the warhammer dragon because of that feeling. A friend in school bought it, and didn't want to mess the paint job up, asked if I would do it for him. I nearly bit his hand off!

Ok, can't resist Azhag What class of paint job would you call that Sean?

Apologies for the quality of the pic, the camera is front focusing. Some more in that stream of the old boy a bit closer up.

Oh, it's not fair to ask me to rate your miniature, especially based on a blurry pic!!

Sean K Reynolds wrote:

LOL, well I shall steel the works camera today and get a non blurry pic.

I ask because that wyvern is exactly as you said (as far as I can remember after 11 ish years....), base coat, dry brush, a green wash, then some highlights picked out on the larger scales/wings, then I think washed again, before being varnished.

That pic shows up some of the damage he's had through three house moves, and numerous games. I'm very proud of him (despite not being the best pain job in the world!)

Dark Archive

No more links, but some updated photos in that photo stream.

Now I will cease my thread-jack, and hope that sometime in the future I can get some of these lovely minis from reaper to have a go on!

Ignoring the orc to focus on the wyvern (nice banner, BTW!), I see your base color, your drybrush, and the details on the horns, mouth, wings, and such. That puts you into the B+ category. I can't see the upper/outer surface of his wings so I can't fully evaluate that, but let me point you to an example of the level of "touch-up work... on individual scales" that can make your mini look even better:

Willow's paint of Reaper's original Blacksting miniature

The yellow on his face is a bit overexposed out in the first pic, but in the second one you can see how she did some spot-shading across the wings, starting with orange-red that matches the body and fading out to the yellow of the main part of the wing.

If you wanted to add something like that to your wyvern without redoing much of the paint job (as your wing color is consistent from base to tip), I'd just add some dark stippling to the webbed areas in between the bones/ridges of the wing, perhaps darkest at the bottom of the wing and becoming fainter/less frequent toward the top. Just Google "green lizard" to find many examples of how even a "single-color" reptile actually has multiple shades. It's stuff like that which takes some extra work but can make the mini really amazing.

Don't get me wrong, your mini looks great, and for most minis I just stop at the B-level because I'd rather paint 10 minis at B-level than two at A-level. ;)

Thanks for the tips Sean. I painted this about 12 years ago, and it was one of my early ones, my first big model I think.

I have never really gotten past this stage though, so the tips are very much appreciated.

The first minis I ever painted.

Excellent It all falls into place

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

For February:
Lini, Iconic Gnome Druid with Droogami, Snow Leopard is a brand-new Reaper product. (Sorry—no image yet!)
Goblin Pyros, Goblin Warchanter, and Seelah, Iconic Human Paladin were all originally produced by Crocodile Games; we still have stock of each, now available at a lower price.

Quick question is it all one model or will it come as two separate one's?

Awww, you started painting right about when I was born! ;)

So, if you could choose three pathfinder minitures for reaper to do, what would they be?

For me it would be a skinsaw cultist, a gray maiden and a the plague doctors from seven days to the grave.

There can never be enough Kobolds. I love big models, so a Rune Giant. Kurzag(sp?) the runelord from AP1

Liberty's Edge

Male drider if we're talking large creatures. Razorhorn would be keen too. I loveded him soooo much!

1 Shalelu Andosana the elf ranger from rise of the runelords

2 A red mantis assassin
3 that mage from Armageddon echo with the skeletor style staff (Not gonna lie just want it for the staff)

Many, many, many of the recent suggestions to this thread have been discussed with Reaper, and I expect to see most of them sooner or later. Probably a bit later, as it'll be a few more months until we have churned through all of the previously released models and get to the point where every mini Reaper does every month is brand new.

Oh, boy, is that going to be exciting!

Liberty's Edge

Looks like I need to get some new brushes! :)

We now have images of the greens for Sajan and Kyra, and a painted Lem.

the red dragon green looks very cool.

What Reaper/Paizo need to do is make sculpts of minis that aren't easily available (rare or requiring much conversion work) elsewhere. Lamia matriarchs, lamia harridans, rune giant (ouch!), skinsaw cultists, degenerate ogres/ogrekin, grey maidens, plague doctors, important NPCs from their adventures/APs, etc etc. Most monsters can be found from a dozen companies, but to make the most of this partnership, they need to present minis you want for Pathfinder (otherwise, you ain't really the target audience) that you just can't get elsewhere.

Trust me, this will happen down the road. Reaper just needs some time to get geared up, and rereleasing the Crocodile minis to get them back in stock while finishing off the iconics is just the start of things. We have given them a large Paizo wishlist and most if not all of the ones you listed above are on the list. I am very jazzed!
