That said, since the FR spell in question is a spell that creates the magic tattoos and not a magic item, I'd say that it's a non-issue anyway. The spell has a built-in limit to what the maximum tattoo number is, and that's all it needs. The bonuses the tattoos grant might not stack with those granted by some magic items, but one shouldn't impact the other as far as limits on numbers.

That's sort of the point for ioun stones, and it's why they cost roughly twice as much as similar items that provide the same bonus but take up a spot. The only limit for ioun stones is your budget and the point at which other people make fun of your character, I guess. :-)

The closest analogy I can think of is the luckstone or the pearl of the sirines. In which case, there's no limit; just how much you can afford.
