Query: Summon Monster List - Poisonous Frog?

Rules Questions

I'm running my game under the new PRPG rule-set. I have a PC Wizard Conjurer in my group who is wondering where to find stats for a Poisonous Frog.

I'm at a loss and need to find something for the player to use at my game tonight. Where would a Poisonous Frog or something close be located?

My guess is these will be in the new Bestiary. I wondered the same when I saw Goblin Dog and Gremlin on the Summon Nature Ally chart.

I was kinda afraid of that. (Its good and bad all at once)

I'll need some sort of stand-in until I get my copy of the Bestiary when it releases.

Does anybody know of a 3.5 equivalent that I might use?

If you need fill ins probably just best to pull from the 3.5 tables.

Stats for the Mite (Grimlin) and Posionous From appear the OGL Tome of Horrors, Revised. They are likely getting converted and reprinted in the Bestiary.

For simple use, the poisonous frog is a dimuative 1 HD (4 hp) animal with a poisonous bite (DC 10; 1d6/1d6 Str).

The Mite uses the warrior NPC class. It is a 1/4 CR creature, so you could probably use the goblin or kobold stats for now. The creatures are primarily trapmakers or stealth attackers.

Goblin Dogs are found in Pathfinder AP 1. The stats are OGL and posted at the GrandOGL wiki.

Thanks kindly. It'll help keep the flavor.

Correct; those monsters will be in the Bestiary. Until then, if you don't want to use placeholder monsters like the 3.5 versions in other sourcebooks, you're probably best off simply not choosing to summon those particular monsters until the Bestiary comes out.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks kindly for the advice.

It would be awesome to have guidelines for larger/advanced monsters on the summon monster list: like, instead of just a boar at 3rd or a dire boar at 4th for summon nature's ally, maybe you could get an advanced dire boar at 5th, a Huge advanced dire boar at 6th, and increasing HD boars thereafter. Or instead of just a frost giant at 7th, maybe you could get a frost giant ranger 2 at 8th, or a frost giant barbarian 4 at 9th (for example).

Now that the Bestiary is out, Gremlins are still a no-show. The Bestiary entry for Mite makes reference to some of the abilities that that Mites don't have that Gremlins do, but there is no descriptin of those abilities. Have I missed something?

Check the errata, if I remember right they fixed that.

I looked there first. The Summon Monster lists have been changed a little, but that wasn't. The PRD shows it as well.

Nope. Because Bestiary 2, where the gremlins will be statted up, is not yet available.

All the creatures mentioned appear to be in the Pathfinder SRD. If you do a search for Summon monster there is a List some of the creatures already have a seperate summon monster link with the stats for celestial or fiendish. Mite Goblin dog and the others mentioned are all int he SRd fromw hat i saw.

My next Summon Monster question is for the Giant Lizard. Is that intended to be a Monitor Lizard, a Giant Frilled Lizard, or a lizard-to-be-named-later?

The summoned lizard is of the less impressive monitor variety. This has been confirmed by some previous threads.

I have a question of my own though. Should the Giant Scorpion really be on the Summon Nature's Ally VI list? It is on Summon Monster IV, so I'd think it shouldn't be any higher than 4th level for Summon Nature's Ally. I mean, the SNA scorpions can't get smite good/evil or DR. Why should they be two levels higher than the SM scorpions who can? Am I missing something here?

Yep.

And you can see the poisonous frog here.
