Sauna - this film felt like a potent lower level horror fantasy adventure

An atmospheric, slow horror tale set in 1595, about a commission of Finnish/Swedish and Russian soldiers marching north together to agree upon and set territorial division after their war.

Things... go poorly.

I think fantasy and horror gamers might appreciate this small film for its rich characters who are perfect at maintaing tone, and for the foreboding mysteries within the story... likely to get gamers filling in the blanks for themselves. This film may not be for everyone but Sauna went in directions I haven't seen pulled off so subtly in many years.

Looks wicked, but where can a guy like me find it?

I picked it up at Blockbuster, but a guy like you? You were destined for a quest, replete with fiendish corpses stewn along the wayside by the murderous decree of your flaming katars, lusty wenches exhausted from your bull like stamina and merciless passion, and the dubious distinction of being the chosen of not one but two gods, both whom have slightly opposing agendas during your journey. Don't let them schitz you, man.

F~$&. No Blockbuster within two hours of here.

And by the way, why aren't you on the bestseller list right now? If you can come up with that s%&@ off the top of your head, I can't imagine what could go down if a little planning were involved.

LOL. You are very kind. In my limited defense, all I can say is that I've got what I believe to be some fairly noteworthy fiction+ projects in the works, and one will reach distribution before the end of the year. Already paid for and everything. :)

Now when these projects release, then we'll see if anyone really gives two figs. Got to admit, I'd settle for a single gifted fig.

I saw this movie last year at a film festival and pretty much adored it. The slow uncovering of the brother's secrets combined with the eerie hidden village was fantastic. Also, the actor that played the elder brother Eric had an amazingly craggy face. I'd love to see him in a face-off with Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Til Dawn).

Trying to get a copy to own, but not finding a lot of luck finding a copy here in the states. Hoping I can find a region-free DVD somewhere for import.

You can find it cheaper, but this one says it's all region.

Dark Archive

Sounds something like a horror version of Casualties of War.

It's less story, more atmosphere, but there is indeed a scene or two where two brothers argue the morality of saving or ignoring a girl's endangered life.
