Glad to here it.

Did you know that 4E bronze dragons heal 12d6 hp and get a +2 bonus to attacks while in water?

Nope.

The player in me says yikes. The DM in me says it's ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome that is.

Of course there's lots of Disney movies with that scene in it...I always think of Snow White first, since it's my favorite.

But speaking of Disney, when is David going to stat up The Great Stone Dragon? Will you first have to invent an Ancestor subclass or an Ancestoral template?

I'm no dm....I no like!!! ;)

Just got a call from the school that my son hit his teacher today. And since the principal is at a conference this week the person who called me was very confused and didn't know what to say. I got pretty frustrated. I mean, how many times should I actually have to ask whether or not they need me to come in? :(

How frustrating for you. :(

Dark Archive

It sure sounds like Monday, not Friday.

Awright. This is it. Even though I was supposed to leave at 11:30 today(it's 1), I am on vacation. Sorta kinda. I'm waiting on a phone call to let me know if the standby tickets to go to Cali are available. If so, then all is well, and I know better for next year. If not, then I call the Cali extended families to make copious apologies and go to my godmother's this year, like last. Either way, I'm sleeping in tomorrow.

I can understand that. The good news is that it can only do it once per encounter, and only when it is below half hit points.

Lynora, sorry to hear about your frustrations. It's no fun dealing with someone who should be making a decision and doesn't want to make a decision.

Freehold, enjoy your vacation.

In that case, it's not even that unusual. Lots of tough 4e monsters can heal themselves. Maybe this one does it a little better, but it is a dragon after all :)

I admit I haven't played 4E enought to run across any, other than a troll or two. I want to play more though. It's really fun to DM.

of course not, Hubby wouldn't allow you in the house if you was liver. ;)

And you too of course.

Yeah, but I still need to know how navigable the river is.

Rant time.

For the past 6 months at my job, I have been working intermittently on a major proposal to improve some of our processes and save us a lot of money. It started as a small, very focused change that would impact a scenario we see relatively rarely, but a couple of supervisors in my department thought that my idea could be expanded to cover other larger scenarios and have been really promoting my idea. So because the impact would be so huge, for the past 6 months I've been in meetings, talking to people, revising my proposal, and talking it up with everybody I could.

Then earlier this week I got the "but what about" comment from someone who was reviewing my draft for me. So I went back to the supervisor who originally told me to add all this other functionality and was really driving the whole idea, and he said, "Well, it could be done, but it would require a major change in the way we do business and would need an overhaul of some other departments' systems, and they're not going to have the resources for something like that."

WTF? It was his idea! And now I'm back to the small, focused change that I started with, and have to communicate with a bunch of people that I'm pulling the plug on most of my proposal.

What a waste of time.

It looks like there will be a nice dinner out tonight, followed by going to see Tony Bourdain speak.

I'm missing game night, but I've had these tickets since the spring.

I hate the "once per encounter" mechanic. Any ideas on how you'll translate this into threeese? Once per day?

Once per encounter is kind of wonky for monsters anyway. How often do you encounter the same monster twice in one day? (Not the same type of monster, the same individual.) For a monster ability, I would say 1/day would work just fine 99% of the time.

I'm also looking at if from a verisimilitude POV. One can benefit physically from sleep of about 8 hrs once a day, evacuate solid wastes 1-2 times a day, etc. I never met anything that can do anything once an "encounter."

For players, anything that is 1/encounter resets once they rest for 5 minutes. The idea being that they need time to collect themselves before they could pull it off again. That explanation works for me, but I know it doesn't work for everybody.

His show has a strange addictive quality. I think it's because he goes to such cool places and shows you things you would probably never see, even if you went to those places, because he goes off the beaten path.

Okay, so I am up to 105 words on my 500 word proposal and I am still writing backstory. This might be harder than I thought.

Yeah, he does have a genuine urge to go outside the zone on his travels. His show on China was pretty fascinating. And all the young chefs aspirant are worshippers of his Kitchen Confidential.

Remember that when writing minimalist is best. Find the smallest most active words to describe the scene.

BAD: The bulk of the guards will be unobservant of you.

Good: Most guards ignore you.

BAD: Primates are often known to give off a strong aroma that can be quite unpleasant to most olfactory sensibilities.

GOOD: Monkeys stink.

BAD: Excessively annoying flora is often trimmed unless it manages to restrain its insulting tone.

GOOD: Shut up or I'll get the weedwhacker.

Well, it only pays to antagonize people when you're not in a hurry.

Seriously, Pat, have I ever pointed you to Fez-o-rama? Because I think you'd be an ideal customer.

EDIT: Ah, there you are. :D

Yep, I'm in and out tonight. Dealing with teen drama here, not fun . :(

And occasionally he goes places you will never ever in your life want to set foot in. But it is entertaining that he does for you. So you can suffer vicariously.
