How do people use this? Cover up the as-yet unseen parts of the map? How do you make the reveals?

I'm using post-it notes to cover up parts that haven't been explored, and revealing things more or less based on line of sight.

I always find LOTS of torn pieces of paper works great :)

Until someone rolls a die onto the map or moves a mini and the papers going skidding everywhere...

Use larger sheets of post-its. The gum/glue will keep them in place and the larger ones can be cut to fit the layout. I found the easiest way, particulary in such a linear map is to imagine walking through the map to determine what will be seen at each point and making the reveals match. The more complex the map, the more difficult it becomes. Players are known to do the unexpected (or the idiotic) and you can't always plan from what direction the PC's are coming.

I actually used 3 inch square post-its and it wasn't bad at all. Took a few minutes to cover each side, but consulting my map before pulling them off or moving them to one side, it went pretty well I think.

Took a fair amount of time to get to the end of the first level. I'm thinking that the second level will be a quicker session, though.

A question for those who have the flip mat and have already read/played the module...

Spoiler:
Does it show the underwater pits in room # 16 just as it does on the map version in the module? What about the trapped areas in rooms # 2 & 21, or the one-way doors in room # 11?

No and No and, as I recall, No.

Draw the map in as you go, based on what the other characters can "see".

I used black window marker to black-out the entire map, then a damp cloth to reveal the rooms as they were explored. It worked remarkably well...

The final encounter was pretty neat as the party's light source didn't reach into all the corners of the large room.

Spoiler:

The skeletons emerging from the shadows had the torch bearers running around the perimeter of the room quickly to flush out all the baddies for the grand finale

I am presently preparing this module and had the same issue with the map. This tip is so awesome. I tried it today and it really works. Thanx!
