Secret Societies

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Not talking factions and prestige classes. Nope secret societies with world shaking agendas and conspiracies. Anyone have stuff?

I have developed the Scions Arodi.

The Scions believe that Aroden did manifest on Golarion a short time before his prophesied return. During that time he married a mortal Taldoran woman, Lorian, with whom he fathered twins, a boy and girl. Due to a pact made with Asmodeus he had to abandon Golarion and serve Asmodeus in Hell.

Lorian gave birth to the twins in late 4606 and brought them to the House of the Immortal Son. There, she met a priest who swore to protect her and her children. The priest gathered a faithful following and hid the family from the searching gaze of Aroden's enemies.

To this day, the Scions watch over the descendants of Aroden, protecting them and nurturing them in secret for the day their immortal sire returns and they will rise up and rule over all of Golarion.

The emblem of the Scions is the All Seeing Eye.

This secret society is, of course, based loosely upon the Priory of Sion story that they are protecting the descendants of Jesus.

I'm working on a couple more secret societies. Let me know if you have anything you have developed or considered.

Sczarni

There are already a few mapped out in the world... see the Harbringers of Fate (there are a few more if you check out the end of chapter 4 of the campaign setting, but I think this is the one that fits best with what you are looking for)

A few of them do indeed fit the bill for secret societies.

The Blackfire Adepts and their rivals, the Riftwardens certainly fit the bill for secret societies. In fact these could lead to some really cool side treks.

The Coils of Ydersium are certainly a secret society with very malevolent goals. A worthy enemy to any adventurer.

The Harbingers could also be an interesting addition to any adventure and also fits the bill for secret society.

The other groups are more or less public, though perhaps obscure.

However, the Odeber Family could work into my Scions of Arodi. They also fit the Merovingian myth.

I have some others I'm working on as well.

The Golden Crusade is a "public" secret society, much like real world masons are a "secret society", except they are a military fraternal order fighting the demonic scourge in the World Wound. The Golden Crusade is the recruiting arm for the Golden Dawn, a secret organization of mystic warriors who take their battles to the demons in the outer planes themselves. I'm drawing from real world Golden Dawn study of astral travel, military fraternal orders of the crusades and even a bit of World of Warcraft.

Another secret society is the Scryer Consortium, a secret fraternal order of Wizards whose goal is to replace religious and political leadership with an arcane "pure" order uniting Golarion under the wisdom and guidance of arcane vision.

I have another group I have been working on that MIGHT fit well under the Riftwardens, either a subgroup or a splinter group. I don't exactly have them figured out yet, and not yet named. Though I am thinking they may be associated with or also splintered from a cult of Sarenrae- a group that embraces the principles of redemption and healing but certainly fallen away from the ideal of honesty.

Dark Archive

What about the little known and very double secret "Hands of Zyphus?" They leave a lot of banana peels on the ground in crowded places, and they also frequently hoist grand pianos into high-rise buildings.

Edit: They also like to leave loaded guns around the house, they balance hairdryers precariously on the edges of bathtubs, and they tell very, very funny jokes just as you take an unusually large bite of your supper. Diabolical, indeed.

THEY DARE! The cads and scoundrels! That is truly too much to bear, they must be defeated at all costs!

Now, excuse me as I take an unusually large bite of my supper.

:)

I have just added new pages to my website KromeDragon, about my secret societies.

I'll be developing a few more pages over the next couple of days to go along with the Scions Arodi.

I know a lot about them. But if I told you, I'd have to kill you. So I'd rather just kill you, that way I don't have to run my mouth off or something.

Who are you and what have you done with KaeYoss? He would NEVER miss an opportunity to run his mouth off!

He must have been abducted by some secret society. I'm sure they will regret it and return him soon enough. He NEVER shuts up! :)

Yes! He has been abtucted! By the Secret Society of The Conspiracy!

What conspiracy? The Conspiracy to make people think there is no conspiracy!

They thought they had me. But it was a trap. Now I have Shattered the Secret Society of the Conspiracy to make People think there is no Conspiracy. Now everyone will know that there really was a conspiracy - the one to make people think there is no conspiracy.

Those guys were really hardline.

As for the Running Mouth (my Navajo name, by the way) thing: usually, yes, but I did read the evil overlord list.

Anyway, there is, of course, the Steak Society. All they do is eat steak - and rule the world.

So they're into The Conduit? Tell them we should get together for an Marathon Capture the ASE in the Pentagon. Either with Explosive weapons or anything with shotgun.

Married? Fathered? That b**ch! She Boris Beckered me! I'll have a talk with her when I'm back. Not that I'm gone. And I'm definetly not with Asmodeus in Hell.

Something Black Council like would be cool. Something really secret. The secret societies' secret society.

They could be attributed with all kinds of things: Killing Aroden or arranging his death, manipulating the Whispering Tyrant into becoming a lich and attacking the world. Making the Aboleths cause the Earthfall. Inciting the civil wars in Cheliax and making sure the diabolists came out on top. Eroding Taldor from within....

Depending on who or what they are, they could even be said to have lured Rovagug to Golarion - though that may or may not be simple bragging.
