Now here is a PFS specific question, are the animal companions presented in the Bestiary open to use or will we have to wait til the next update to the PFS rules to see what is and what isn't allowed in the way of animal companions and feats from that book?

The only book not listed in v2.01 of the PFS Guide Book that is legal for use is Seekers of Secrets. Players have to wait until v2.1 to include anything from the Bestiary.

Correct. And I hope to, at the latest, have 2.1 out by the end of the month. It's coming with some ... surprises ... (fun surprises!) that I'm waiting on another team to finish before I announce and I'm out of the office at NeonCon this week and early next week. I'm going to try to get 2.1 out by USA Turkey Day, but the end of the month is my latest projection.

My apologies if this has been asked before.

Can we use the alternate class features available in the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting in Pathfinder Society? i.e. - Trained at a War College for Fighter.

Thanks

No, unfortunately you can't use them.

That's disappointing. I was building an intelligent fighter, and was hoping to be able to have a very skilled fighter. Would have given it a flair that would make him different from other fighters. May not help much in the sense of combat, but would have been great for the roleplaying aspect.

You can still have plenty of skills as a fighter if you have a decent intelligence and take the skill point from your favoured class. If that isn't enough, then maybe you could have the same concept using the ranger or rogue classes - you don't need to take levels in the fighter class to call yourself a 'fighter'.

I'd been wanting to do much the same thing with my PFS character. As 'Calixy' says, you can produce quite a skilled character using a decent int score (which you'll need for combat expertise and that chain of feats) plus the favoured class bonus and being human - you could have 5+ skill points a level quite easily. Taking some levels in ranger can be a good option as you don't lose any base attack bonus (but only if your fighting style fits with a ranger combat style).

...Plus you can get more 'class' skills from traits.

You might want to hold out for a bit, though. Sounds to me like the Cavalier might be a more skill-based fighter type. The stats for the playtest for them are released this Friday. I would assume the society rules for playing the playtest classes* should be in the year 1.1 rules set before the end of the month.

Alternative class features would = Awesome.

To be clear, we're never going to allow the 3.5 alternate class features into Pathfinder Society. I was correcting the "1.1" stated in the post above mine to "2.1."

I don't really care about 3.5 alternative class features (although the ones from the Campaign Setting would be nice I guess), but I'm hoping the Advanced Player's Guide has plenty of alternative class features ... and that they quickly make into Society rules.

BTW - Thanks for the clarification.

It's highly likely most of the features of the APG will make it into Society play.

Will PFS GMs need to buy the APG, or is that something that players should expect to bring to the table if they want to use?

in 2.0 it says that you are expected to bring the physical book for any feat/weapon/ect that isn't in the core book, I don't see that changing with the APG

So...hate to ask Josh for a ruling that isn't PFS rules specific...but there seems to be no consensus on the rules forum, or official answer there...and enquiring minds really want to know :). Question is:A: How does empower spell work with spells with dice+adds, and if the answer to A is something other than (Total roll+add)*1.5, no CL limit...B: Does the healing domain level 6 power follow the same answer as A, or a different one (Due to the wording in Healing Domain). Thread on rules discussion forum:
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/rules/healingDomainHealingSpellsEmpowerSpell

Please put any comments/thoughts that aren't an official answer from Josh in that thread :).

(sorry for not making it a link, I forget the code for that)

Josh, what are the chances that my level 7 Ranger with Boon Companion will get to fly around on a Roc companion when v2.1 comes out?

He stated this will be more likely then not allowed.

Josh,

One thing I thought could be added was on p. 14 under skills for Linguistics that characters can chose languages from the Pathfinder Campaign setting like Kelish. At least I've always "assumed" thats the case.

This actually has been one of my thoughts...a lot of mods have people speaking local dialects but no one ever has them. Do or should characters be allowed to take a dialect from their home area?

Yes, dialects are allowed. Keep in mind that for Pathfinder Society, common is called common and is not called whatever local dialects might call it (such as Taldane) and that all Pathfinder Society PCs must speak common first.

The Exchange 3/5

I was reading the the Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting and came across the section on Firearms. If someone could answer any of the following questions, I would appreciate it.

1. Are firearms allowed in Pathfinder Society Organized Play?
2. There is no price listed for shot/gunpowder/amunition anywhere, that I could find, in the text. So how much does it cost?
3. Is there a mechanic present for using guns or gun attachments as melee weapons? (ie "pistol whipping" and bayonetts)
4. Can guns be enchanted as magical weapons?
5. How do guns/gunpowder shots function or not function after exposure to water?

If the answers to these questions are already posted somewhere and I have missed them, please let me know.

Thanks

Since this thread is for PFS-specific rules questions, I'll answer this one. The rest you may want to post in the general Pathfinder forum or the Pathfinder Chronicles section.

The answer is no, they are not allowed in PFS play. They are not among the items listed in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play as being legal for use in the campaign.

Which still makes me a Sad Panda... :-(, I was sooo looking forward to making a Roland Deschain like character...

I would like clarification on the "Wizards and Their Spellbooks" section of The Guide.

1. Does successfully scribing a scroll found during a scenario remove it from the wizard's chronicle? That is, can a wizard scribe a spell then ALSO buy the scroll of that same spell? Should the GM cross it off the chronicle?
2. Would successfully scribing a scroll during a scenario remove the scroll from OTHER characters chronicles, since it was consumed?
3. A general chronicle access question: Can multiple consumables be bought when listed on a chronicle? When a potion of cure moderate wounds is listed on the chronicle, does that mean we can buy just one or do we have the option to buy two or more, assuming we can afford it?

I know the answer to 3 is yes, as I've explicitly had that answered..unless an item is listed as limited on the sheet, you can buy as many copies of it as you want during the current/previous two chronicle sheets. I've also been told that even if an item is consumed during a mod, you shouldn't take away its treasure value/access on the sheet, so I'm 99% certain that the answers to 1 and 2 are no.

This answer was given to a similar question on the previous page of this thread:

Quote:

7) Should I be subtracting the value of items consumed from the max gold? Potions, scrolls, wands with 5 charges...

Yes. But that doesn't change the list of special items available for purchase after the adventure is over.

Thank you both for your answers. I thought of a slightly different question on the same topic:

If we come across scrolls or spellbooks containing 1st level spells during a scenario, can we scribe those for only the scribing cost? Or, since they will never appear on the chronicle (scrolls of 0th or 1st level are always available), will we need to buy the scroll then pay to scribe it as well?

1. No. Yes. No.

2. No.

3. Yes, unless there's a limit noted. Yes.

Both questions are answered by the rules on page 219 of the Core Rulebook and page 19 of 2.01 of the Guide book. I don't intend to deviate from those rules.

Specifically:

Core Rulebook wrote:
A wizard can also add a spell to his book whenever he encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard's spellbook.

and

Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play wrote:
...a wizard does not have to purchase a scroll found during the course of a scenario in order to copy that scroll into his spellbook. A wizard only needs to spend the time, succeed on the appropriate checks, and spend the gold necessary per the table on page 219 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook.

I asked this question in the regular Pathfinder Rules forum and got several quick answers...

Is there anything out there that grants a +1 stat bump? Everything seems to be in multiples of 2, I assume because you only get an increase in stat bonuses at even ability scores. But I've got a 17 Dex and would love an 18. 19 doesn't do me any good (in the short term, anyway), and I'd love to find something cheaper than 4K gp. Suggestions?

Belt of Dexterity +1 at 1000gp

or
Belt of Dexterity +3 at 9000gp

These are not standard items and will probably have to be specially crafted for you, but they are well within the rules.

Now I'd like to know if anything like this is - or will ever be - legal in the Pathfinder Society?

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Is there gonna be a complete list of traits that can be used? Is there a complete list at this time that can be printed off and used in events as I have not seen a link(if there is please list it)or list. I apologise if this has already been asked.

The Guide to the Pathfinder Society ver. 2.01 has a complete list of everything from the Pathfinder books and modules that are allowed as of Sept. James has said version 2.1 should be out very soon, probably within another week or so. The Guide lists what is legal and what is not, but does not give descriptions of each item. You would instead have to look up descriptions in each of the books for whatever you are looking for. However, the Pathfinder wiki may have all the descriptions, so you can try there if you do not have access to a book you need.

Enevhar Aldarion wrote:

The PathfinderWiki is limited to canon flavor, and we have a no crunch policy, so it's not the place to go for mechanics. If you are looking for information on a nation or religion which may be part of your PC's background, we can help you there.

As these items are not in the Core Rulebook, they are not legal for play. I believe these are legacy items from 3.0 and haven't been part of the 3.5 system for more than 5 years.

I am not aware of any plans to create new magic items for PRPG that break with the +2 modifier feature of the 3.5 rules and PRPG. If we every did something along those lines, they would likely be legal for play, but it's not something I'm going to specifically create for PFS.

You can find the basic list of traits at paizo.com/traits. The rest that are legal for play can be found noted in Chapter 13 of the Guide. There are no plans to create a full list of available traits from all sources.
