Did any of you guys see the MythBusters episode where they interleaved 2 800 page phone books and 2 cars could not pull them apart? I wonder how 2 Core Books would go.....Mmmmmmmmm
Would be a terrible waste of $100. I would think that the higher quality paper would be slicker, with a lower coefficient of friction, and so you wouldn't need as much force to pry them apart, but as I said, a terrible waste of 2 books that would much better be left in the hands of gamers to use for their intended purpose.

And let me just say that it is downright surreal to see a real, in-motion Beta book in mint condition.
Just thought about this: Can we assume that any critters that show up in the PFRPG rule book will be in the Bestiary? Because I do believe I saw that froghemoth pic...

Basically, we went through the book, thought about what art should be there, and if we already had a piece that we liked alot and it fit, it went into the book. If we didn't, we had a new piece created.
I have mentioned this a few times in various threads, but the main reason we did this was to keep the cost of the core rulebook down so we could keep it under $50. Originally, if we had new art throughout, we would have had to sell the book at $69.99! That was just too high to get any penetration with new customers (or old for that matter), so some art got reused to keep the cost down. Besides, it will be all new art for a lot of the people buying the book. And on top of that, we all really LIKE a lot of the artwork that we've already done. No sense in not showing off your best pieces!

Makes sense, and I appreciate the explanation and the predicament. But this is something that's starting to bug me about the RPG industry in general, I guess. I scoff at all the 4.0 books I've been seeing, because they're reusing 3.5 art. WotC's "new" minis line is reusing figures from the old sets. And now the PFRPG is reusing a fairly healthy amount of art from older books, if the flip through is to be taken as presenting a decent variety of art. There's a lot of good art in there, and I love WAR's stuff a great deal, but I had hoped we'd see more new art. I'd hoped we'd see all new art, honestly. I can understand costs, but I guess it's just getting too expensive to commission brand new art for a flagship book anymore. And it's a sad thing, because eventually you reach saturation with an image, and I've always loved flipping through books for the art that's in there.
*sigh* I've still got mine on pre-order from my FLBS, but I won't be flipping through it oohing and aahing at the illos as much.

Naw, 'cause the Bestiary doesn't come out until the following month, so it shouldn't be in the same delivery...

I have a quick question and I don't know if this is where to ask but here it goes. Will the First Councel of Theives AP be out by Aug 13th? I have my subs to ship with the AP's and I will really hate to wait a week after the 13th before I can even look at the PDF. Or worst my AP ships before the 13th and I have to wait until the second AP comes in to get the Big Book.

Good question. If you have your shipping options set to Ship When my Pathfinder AP comes in, then it should ship with that. However, I will let teh big wigs answer that.
Edit - Also, since this stuff needs to be available to Paizo BEFORE Gen Con, my guess is that you should be getting everything around the same time.

I agree that was an excellent encounter. Great Job Richard Pett and whoever pushed him into making that mini-game!

The book looks great. I personally dont mind the reused art. This will be the Paizo bible, the word according to Jason. I can just see a passage in the beginning saying...
and Jason said "let there be light, no, let there be dim light, and let there be penalties for fighting in said dim light!"
It is more important the book has the meat/rules and less fluff to carry the company to the next level. Insuring the price will float with the common gamer. Lets face it, the majority gamers don't have a lot of disposable cash in this economy and this may be the one Paizo product they will buy.
The new art I am assuming will be mostly in the Bestiary where it is needed.
The most impressive thing to me about this project is the openess to listen to your customers (player feedback on the boards). Lisa had mentioned this is instrumental to a successful company and I feel it has been the demise other game companies "the game that must not be named, but is the world's most popular role playing game" I just love how you guys never mention the name of the RPG on your products.
Anyway, I hope you use the feedback in other core books, I myself would not mind buying beta versions of other rulesets as time goes on just to ensure the quality of product.
Great Job!!

I don't think that OGL even permits one to mention D&D on the product.
However one thing I noticed is that the "world's most popular role playing game" phrase is gone and replaced with "world's oldest role playing game".

Think about it. What happens if you use it on something that wasn't flesh to begin with? What kind of flesh do you get? Would you cook and eat it?
Gives me the creeps.

Interestingly enough, we aren't being "snarky" when we say that. The OGL doesn't allow us to mention Dungeons and Dragons by name, only the d20 license does that and it has been cancelled. So we had to resort to the "compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world's most popular role playing game" tag as a way to say "compatible with D&D 3.5" as a necessity, not a jab or snarky comment.

While it would be cool to hear the reasoning behind that, I would guess that "oldest" is more accurate these days. Pathfinder is not compatible with D&D 4th edition, which is now the world's most popular role-playing game. It is, however, compatible with previous editions of D&D, which is the world's oldest role-playing game.
I'm probably thinking about the change in phrasing a bit too much, though.

What I would have loved to see in this video that I'm sure couldn't have been done would have been the book set next to the PHB and DMG on top of each other. Just to see how large it is next to the two books it's replacing. I imagine it stacks up very well, especially once you factor in the double-cover of the other two.

To my knowledge, computer games are not considered to be in the same industry. Otherwise, D&D hasn't been the world's most popular role-playing game since the first couple of Final Fantasy games came out.
