That's so UN-Dungeons and Dragons.

They are the platypus of D&D

I ask you, what would the world be like without the platypus?

This is a travesty!

SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO SAVE THE FLUMPH!!!!!!!

Tim, you're confused. Something's been eating your thoughts.

Really? You look older... ;P

Also Happy BDay my salad friend!

*goes look for a $30 flight to NYC*

Thanks, Taig.

Spoiler:
I got the City of Brass! Hope your birthday is as good or better!

Hugo, I think you had to buy the flight last night before 2 am central. Which is good news for Yoda, as I'd have had to have pounded him (while carefully avoiding damage to his precious fingers.)

That's a good gift. What would make it better is if you could put a flumph (maybe on an efreet's grill) or an Al-mi'raj in there.

I feel bad for those of you out there who just don't see the sheer awesomeness of the flumph.

They are a reflection of every geek out there whose ever be made to feel like a dork for playing D&D. Its one thing to move on, but truth be told. You had the damn Blue Book!
and you had the Fiend Folio... ANd until you've added them to Shadow Run, CoC, and Marvel Superheroes... you just don't know flumph.

They are universal. They're like air. They fit anywhere.
Try that with a orc.

LONG LIVE THE FLUMPH!!!!

Oh, my moving on was a very short distance...(here).

Sure, I had the old Fiend Folio. Until quite recently. But the flumph was one of my least favorite monsters in there. It just never worked for me. Unlike, say, Tim Hitchcock.

PS No love on the Thought Eater allusion, people? (The real platypus of D&D!)

Just because it's your birthday, I won't retaliate for the first one. Any blows beyond the first, though, you throw at your own risk.

Heh, I won't risk anything this morning, Yoda, with my body feeling a decade older. Funny, last night's margaritas seemed to work like some kind of a time machine...

Pathfinder must have flumphs!! I've been threatening my husband for ages that if he kills my character, I will bring in a flumph paladin. So I NEED Pathfinder flumph stats!

Well, it looks like you folks have forced my hand.

In fact, the adventure path right after Kingmakers will be "The Chronicles of the Flumph-o-nauts". This will be a bit of an experiment for us, and we will be rebuilding the old 2e spelljammer setting for the path. The adventure path will explore the deep backstory behind such iconic D&D races as the Giff, Dowhar, and Carbunkle as the players race to stop a Giant Fire-Breathing Sweet-and-Salty Two-Headed Half-Dragon Gninja Hobo NASCAR Space Hamster.

The first Pathfinder Chronicles Book supporting the adventure path will be the Complete Flumphs Handbook, which will provide the details of the elusive Flumph subraces, such as the Ice Flumph, the Fire Flumph, and the always popular, Wood Flumph.

By the time you receive the product, we should already be on an exotic island, counting our money and laughing heartily.

Er...ignore that last part.

With regard to anything Merisiel says, I think we should take it with a very large pinch of salt.
Indeed the fact that Merisiel is speaking up in favour of flumph banning seems to me to indicate that flumphs should be embraced vigorously by Paizo.

Only this afternoon, I witnessed the iconic NPC Merisiel demonstrating that her idea of disarming a poison arrow trap in The Styes is to be critted and killed by it. (See PaizoCon UK thread for an obituary I have posted.)

Merisel should be vigorously embraced. Flumph should be gently steamed.

HUGE fan of flumphs! Heck, I even have me a flumph character (...okay it was April Fools, don't ask)

I would love to see flumphs in Pathfinder--they have that wonderful off center, grognard-happy feel that I love about the setting.

So yeah, totally sign me up as a flumph-lover.

Actually I'm in the process of creating floating jellyfish.... but they are much more evil, lack eyestalks, and are not nearly as nice as the wonderful flumph.....

The flumph should have its own product, complete with notes on playing a flumph as a pc character, notable flumph npc heroes, detailed cities and villages of the flumph, flumph special equipment, flumph related magical items, flumph related spells, flumph related commodities...
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.

No kidding man! Picking a god for my flumph character to worship was a nightmare, I tell ya'. I ended up having to worship Blibdolploop.

I mean I'm not asking much guys--just a box set maybe and a set of Flumph specific item cards...ooh maybe their own harrow style divination system. That would be sweet. Any chance of Wayne Reynolds art for the cover?

That's easy - Flumph the Flumph, the progenitor of all flumphkin, was the only one of his species to ever attain class levels. Sadly, those were in the Jester and Porter NPC-only classes from the 1e days, and failed to translate into anything meaningful in 3e. Worse, Flumph's negative attack progression greatly hindered its efforts to do battle with the mighty entity known only as Twink, resulting in a stalemate that has persisted for aeons.

Although "true" cultists rightly slaughter those who suggest this, it is a persistent rumor that Flumph is considered an "Itty Bitty Almost-Old-One", giving rise to assign blame to Flumph's continued existence despite what is estimated in some circles as one million successful "kills" of Flumph.

I humbly offer my support to all things idiotic in D&D. The flumph being the spokesmonster for the crusade, of course.

Flail Snails anyone?

EATERoftheDEAD wrote:

Flail Snails anyone?

Oh, definitely! Flail snails could be equipped with exotic saddles for the flumph to ride... or rather since the flumph floats, maybe it is the snail that somewhat rides the flumph rather... by allowing the flumph to carry the flail snail about through the air via the attachment of the flail snail's exotic saddle (see, we already have flumph equipment... a saddle and a flail snail reverse mount).... reverse mounts! That's it! A flail snail is a reverse mount of the flumph... and why would the flumph want/need to carry the flail snail about? Because they are friends, that's why!

...and the flail snail could also serve as a living weapon for the flumph... especially useful when dealing with rust monsters.

Paizo Employee Managing Developer

I thought xvarts rode flail snails.

Daigle wrote:

Well, we could have xvarts work as stablehands for the flumph... now this is the flumph's glory party, and we must focus on the flumph.

FOCUS ON THE FLUMPH

I thought of something... could we name the flumph product Flumphjammer?

*laughs* My flumph character actually HAD a pet flail snail. Kid you not! Man I miss a lot of the crusty niche monsters from former editions. I had no idea people hated them so much. It's funny, all the monsters people are railing against are the ones I always thought were just really fresh and interesting. I'm totally in the camp with everyone who wants to save all the oddball D&D stuff out there.

I really think the flumph is just like the panda to our little wildlife protection movement...
