If Flumphs are OPL content for D&D, then they really do deserve to be brought into the world of Paizo if only for the sake of keeping that feel of Dungeons and Dragons.

D&D got silly some times, it was part of the fun. Every adventure can't be all about saving the world from certain doom! We need creatures like the humble Flumph, even if it's just in some little extra somewhere.

Is there a 3.5 Flumph though?

Yes! Tim Hitchcock wrote an entire 3.5e adventure centered around them for Dungeon, entitled "Box of Flumph" in issue #118.

Whenever my players start to get too big for their britches, I threaten to bring in a flumph blackguard to put them in their place. Now that this thread is here, I may just have to make an NPC statblock for it.

Thanks to Erik's post, I'm awash in a sea of nostalgia--or whatever that stuff that fills the space between planets is called--thinking back to my group's old Spelljammer days. It spawned one of our best at-the-table lines: "Just drop a giff on 'em." This comes up whenever there seems to be a badass enemy in a position where we aren't able to mount any effective offense against them. It stems from a long, convoluted story in a Spelljammer campaign where one guy was hogging all the action and hit a spot like that. I chimed in with "Why don't you just drop a giff on 'em?" and the guy actually took me seriously and did so...with hilarious consequences (hilarious to everyone at the table, not so funny for the poor giff).

Already been done in EN Publishing's Bride of Portable Hole: The Book of Neurotic Fantasy. Page 83 has "The Dark Flumph," a Flumph Paladin 4/Blackguard 10/Assassin 6.

Worth the price (FREE!) just for the Flumphonomicon section alone.

I respectively disagree. This was simply an example of the ingenuity of badgers. Fermenting your own alcohol in your stomach is pure genius!

Not to mention how environmentally friendly the entire situation was. No messy production facility with waste byproducts and no packaging that eventually ends up in a landfill. Heck, our badger friend even went so far as to go to a nearby highway to encourage people to drive slower and use less fossil fuels!

Could a flumph do that? Nope, a flumph in this situation would have just led to flumph use #342,657 - roadkill.

Yes, I remember your proposal for the Carbuncle Revolutions Adventure Path. Let it not be said that Paizo stands in the way of publishing C.R.A.P.!

That Flumph t-shirt bore a strong resemblance to the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Daigle, your anti-badgerism is simply a strategic part of your opaque flumphonomics. Disgusting. Shameful.

Now, to share my favorite memory from Padre Island: Driving up and down the beach, running over flumphs who were sunning themselves with the windows rolled down so I could hear the wonderful POP! they made in death.

Badger - Yes
Carbuncle - Yes
Al-miraj - Unconvinced
Flumph - POP!

It's got a horn!

Orc: Oh, look! A cute, little, fluffy bunny. Perfect for the stewpot!

Al-Mi'raj: <Wriggles nose in distaste and leaps a mighty 3 feet in the air, skewering the orc>

Orc: Oh, I am dead! <Dies>

And, Mairkurion,

Spoiler:
I wasn't trying to sully your good name, sir. The other sock puppets were otherwise engaged.

Why not just give the bunny vicious fangs that is uses to rip out throats when it leaps?

Oh yeah, I can also get on board with the dire corby...what bothers me the about it is calling it "dire".

Too many things already have fangs, and there aren't enough creatures that can skewer their opponents. Also, do we really want to invite more Monty Python quotes?

I'd prefer a dire corgi. Now that would be fearsome!

I am so very much with you on this, Demiurge! I always did like the Dire Corby and used them frequently. They would make a great candidate to go along with flumphs for the NEEDED Misfit Monsters Revisited!! Consider the Dire Corby Help, Enrichment, And Defense Society (DiCHEADS) to be a staunch ally of the GoFY movement!

And everyone should get the chance to hear Tim Hichcock explain his pitch for "Box of Flumph" at some point. It may be completely Tim's apocryphal recounting, but it is nonetheless magical!

Flumphs will live on! Remember, they had their own entire level in Castle Greyhawk (the level of forgotten and useless monsters). In my campaign, they have been placed under the protection of the Giant Radioactive Firebreathing Doppleganging Invisible Space Hamsters (CR 20).

Sigh.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news to the keeper of the Pathfinder Wiki, but the flumph was NOT in the 1E Monster Manual, and it was NOT designed by Gary Gygax.

In fact, the flumph appeared in the 1E FIEND FOLIO, and was designed by (LOL) TWO chaps named Ian McDowall and Douglas Naismith.

Ian McDowall is almost like Gary Gygax, though, in that he also invented the dakon and the guardian daemon.

In the first place, you should never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Secondly, this implies that if we can find an endorsement of flumphs by E. Gary Gygax, they're in. Our mission now is simple: We must find (or manufacture) such a document. I'm sure someone has an old Fiend Folio with Gary's wholehearted "thumbs up" scrawled on it.

(If we'd learned of this issue sooner, we could have slipped Erik Mona a few stiff drinks at PaizoCon, then snuck the flumph into his notes while he was distracted. Something like,"Put this one on the Bestiary cover" would have muddied the waters long enough to guarantee flumphs their rightful place in Golarion.)

Perhaps an extensive marketing campaign would galvanize public opinion toward this poor, maligned creature. Flumphs could be the new heralds of Abadar, guardians of his celestial vaults. After all, what's more trustworthy than a flumph?

Well, it was the only LG creature in FF... which one could argue belies it being a "fiend."

Henceforth, let it be known that the quickly-gaining-in-power organization known as Go Flumph Yourself (GoFY) wishes to reach an accord with the Paizonian Dictators.

GoFY's demands are thus:

1.) That BOTH Jacobs and Mona publicly acknowledge in this thread the greatness of the Flumph.

2.) That a Paizo Blog Post entitled "The Great Flumph Accord of 2009" be posted shortly - indicating to all that Paizo has come to accept that the Flumph MUST be included in the PFRPG.

3.) That the Flumph be officially updated with PFRPG stats in said blog post mentioned above.

4.) A written promise shall be included in the aforementioned blog post that the Flumph shall appear in an official Paizo product. Said product must be specifically named and an estimated date for its release must be given. Acceptable Paizo products would include, but would not be limited to, a Pathfinder Society Scenario, A volume of the Pathfinder AP, and/or a Paizo Adventure Module.

These are our demands! You will give in, or you will succumb to the collective might of GoFY!
