Just a curious question about prestige classes

Not sure if this has been posted else where, are prestiges allowed to be taken at the moment in the beta? I have printed off the Organised play for magic items and prestige classes but unsure if they are able to be played.

Someone please advise

No, they are strictly forbidden! If someone finds out, the Golem Police will come to your house and pummel you!

:P

Just kidding. The game is supposed to be the new 3e. What works in 3e is supposed to work here. So yes, you can, and may, use PrCs. I don't see how anyone could stop you, anyway.

But make sure to check back with your GM (because he could stop you).

Thank you, very much. JustI was in a discussion with some people about PrC, and not allowed until august or something. Thank for clearing that up.

Just to clarify, Prestige classes are allowed in the Beta play-test, in fact they have drafted revisions to some of the DMG Prestige classes as an additional web enhancement for the Beta.

However, I don't believe they are available in the Organised Play.

Your post mentioned both, so I though I would cover both so there is no confusion.

Why would organized play ban something in the SRD?

It's my understanding (as a non-participant) that the organized play is currently in season 0 which is using any SRD material only (no Pathfinder Beta rules).

I believe the next "season" will feature the new ruleset though not the beta.

Organized play has different needs and expectations than a home campaign. There are things in the core books that aren't allowed or are changed somewhat for organized play; having to evaluate every last item in the SRD is probably too much for the Year Zero campaign, especially with the Pathfinder RPG coming out--you'd have to evaluate all of that SRD content twice for problematic stuff (pre- and post-Pathfinder RPG).

so that answers my question, but so are PrCs allowed in the current PS?

So its the DMs choice to allow someone to take the PrC? However as organised play they are not offical yet the web enchancment seems to be just an idea about the possible PrC.

If you are playing with the Beta rules it is up to you and your DM what rules are in use, including the Prestige Class web enhancement for the beta. The beta rules are completely separate from the Pathfinder Society Organised Play.

According to the guide to the Pathfinder Society Organised Play the only classes available are those from the 3.5 PHB. So Prestige Classes are out.
