A vast and shifting realm of dreams and nightmares, beyond which things of the outer darkness lurk and plot; within which citadels, deserts, forests, mountains, dungeons, moors, castles, towns, and much much more exist and shift, around cores of stability - dreams or nightmares almost as ancient as the aeons of the multiverse.
Some areas are nothing more than whirling maelstroms of colour, that snare passing souls, perhaps governed by tyrants, perhaps governed by benevolant dictators, but seldom ruled by the weak or purely good.
And cast across the shadows of these realms, haunting dreams, something more ancient and more powerful than even the gods in this, its place of power - the only thing perhaps, perhaps save for the reclusive daughters of the morning, which could hold this realm against the horrors beyond.
Brooding over all, the place present in her thoughts even when she is absent, is the Night Dragon.

Nice intro - enticing and ominous at the same time... :)

Well there was mention of a dreamlands being needed as a side-trek for Sunny D, to retrieve the lost Alaina, and I hadn't posted a 'lair' for ND yet.... :)

Please note whilst I may be first and foremost power here, I am NOT a deity; I am not omniscient, I do not know everything which goes on here - visitors whose intentions I have not become aware of by some other means can come and go in dozens of places without ever catching my attention unless they raise a real rumpus.
Having a near-infinite realm without absolute knowledge of it is a real pain. If you had any idea the bother it is trying to keep tabs on the rulers of even the most significant two hundred locations, you would appreciate why I occasionally treat myself to holidays to scheme, loot and pillage in other places.

Since I'm technically imaginary, I guess I should hang out here.

Nice call on the thread

A shadowy form flits hither and yon, heading deeper into the Dreamlands

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you--
Happy people like
What a beautiful

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

How to get to Sesame Street

TURBONIUM DRAGON!
LMAO!

The Demon Of Fear(<- link) is powerful in the Realm of Nightma- I mean Dreams.

Those in the Realm are suddenly overcome with fear as a cloaked figure glides silently past, but it passes quickly.

Is he still 3 inches high? ;)

In a palace of crystal illuminated by dark lights, in the heart of a wildwood, the air shimmers and amidst twinkling blue lights, the realm's ruler returns in her elven form. Servitor treants, the mineral crystals of their petrified fossil forms glinting and sparkling with rainbow hues stride to their mistress' side.
One takes her cloak away. Another brings a platter of moon-silver, with a crystal decanter containing the distilled liquid torment of a thousand tortured dreamers, and a matching goblet. Two more wheel in a huge metal frame, that supports a vast scrying crystal, a dozen yards across.
The Night Dragon fills the goblet, knocks back a draught, then waves away the treant with the decanter and goblet.
The treant which took her cloak away returns with a different one, covered with feathers plucked from a phoenix, and a long scrying wand, nine feet in length and fashioned from the twisted together horns of a long-dead draconic demigod of divination.

Hmm. Let's see how that wretch Rovumonx is doing with his plots for battle against Terebintha. You would have thought he would be less casual in his atitude to her given her parentage... she muses to herself.
She draws the cloak aboput her, and taps the crystal with the wand.
Secure against any intrusion, magical or otherwise, here in the heart of her power, she begains to study people and events happening about her realm.

The Night Dragon is lost in her thoughts, surveying grand events elsewhere, and musing upon developments in the Bazaar and Oasis, when Lynora Jill and her companions arrive in the Dreamlands for their quest for Alaina. A lingering sense of the trail of Alaina's essence hangs in the air of this land of dreams before Lynora-Jill, her mind sensitive to it, at whatever spot it is that they arrive; but every fleeting every second the trail, that initially burns as bright as Alaina's own spirit to Lynora Jill, dims.

LJ plunges swiftly after the fading trail.
"Hurry! I'm losing her trail. This is outside my realm and I am weaker here."
She strengthens her Song of Finding as she flies, racing after the diminishing trail, just barely able to hold onto it.

Alaina's trail seems to lead into a gothic dreamland where thousands of gravestones line gentle hills. Immense marble tombs rise up in cyclopean eldritch majesty under a full orange moon. LJ gets the feeling she is being watched.

LJ glances around as much as she can, but she doesn't dare truly take her eyes off Alaina's trail. She swoops over the gravestones, trying to hold herself together long enough to reach her friend.

Hmm, well if everyone else is too busy to respond with events/people/places at present... With a grinding shift of stone the landscape swirls around Lynora Jill, cutting her off from any companions, and suddenly plunging her into the stygian gloom of a labyrinth; walls of high rock soar all around her into swirling mists. Somewhere in the distance a song reverberates through the air.
I'm assuming Alaina has been sucked into one of those unstable areas, and that Lynora-Jill is on the edge of it.
Edit:
Okay, Patrick, there's a labyrinth, I'll have some fun at the other end.

She looks around her in panic. She has no way back. And she's cut off from Alaina's trail. And cut off from Sunny G. All this risk to bring him to Alaina only to fail. No! A tear trickled down her cheek.
"Jack Hammer, I'm so sorry. I'm trying so hard to save her, to come back safely. I WILL get back to you somehow. No matter what."
She wipes the tear off her cheek. If she can't bring Sunny G to Alaina, maybe she can still find Alaina and bring her to Sunny G. She heads forward into the labyrinth, drawing on her Song of Finding as much as possible.

Alaina's trail is faint, but followable. It seems to lead further into the cyclopean maze

Awww and I had such a neat cemetery scene planned!

Umm, and what is there to stop the scene (or a cemetery too, for that matter) from being in a labyrinth instead? :)
If you could make sure that the exit once Lynora-Jill gets there is a gate or door of some kind (if she doesn't wake up with a scream before she gets there) and I'll resume from there (immediately if I'm still up and posting).
Sorry about the discussions in the background over how to torment your character, Lynora... :D

LJ flies further into the maze, determined not to fail.

And I usually just have one DM trying to kill me at a time ;) No worries, guys, I understand about needing to coordinate.

Good call..

Lynora-Jill flies through the labyrinth, noticing that the walls of the maze are actually tombstones and crypt doors. A meeping sound echoes along with the faint music and she feels as if there are ...things ...moving in the shadows..

She shudders as she hears the noises. She's not sure what, if anything she can do against dream undead. She's used to being able to throw positive energy at them. Can she still do that here? And what if they're not undead, but just some creepy-crawly that goes bump in the night? She hasn't got any protectors with her now. She tries to keep focused through her fear so that she can continue to follow Alaina's trail.

Suddenly Lynora-Jill sees a pair of green glowing eyes emerge from the darkness. A ghoul walks towards her.

Why dost thou travel in the Labyrinth of Ghouls lady?

"Because I must. I seek one who is lost. Please let me past."

She hums furiously, trying not to lose the trail, and also trying to calm her nerves. She isn't sure what the rules are here.

The ghoul meeps

Lady, the way is fraught with danger. The Black Shadows lurk about, whispering of Dread N'Granek and the bone hills. Zoogs stand ready to snare your soul with their dreamwebs.

The ghoul c0cks his bald head.

You seem to be a Power. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Richard Pickman, Herald of the Ghoul King. You will need his approval to go further.

A familiar voice whispers in LJ's head.

The worlds are many, both dark and light. Remember, the World Tree touches even the shadow realms. We druids use them to conceal and misdirect, but the strong of mind may still find the path.

"I am Lynora-Jill, the Star Song. A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Pickman. I do not mean to rush you, but my time in this realm is limited and I must find my friend while I still can. How can I gain the permission of your king to pass through this place?"

She seems to calm somewhat and draws more on the Song of Yggdrasil to steady her own power and hopefully to help her see the truth of this place.

Back at the Sanctum E7 casts Attune Form on JH, hoping that some of its power will flow to LJ thru their connection.

Spell Comp, p17 - helps with planar travel effects.

Pickman nods

I can speak for him, and grant thee safe passage. First, though, I must know of thy errand. Who dost thou search for?

"I am searching for Alaina, the Fire Flower, and Herald of Sunny Godhead. She was driven from her body by the attack of an enemy, and I wish to bring her back."

While it doesn't stop the effect entirely, the amount of times between her turning transparent increases. The spell appears to have bought her a little more time at least.

Background update; Lynora hasn't done anything here yet to draw ND's attention
Busy with her thoughts, the Night Dragon at last turns her attention to realms beyond her own, and the subtle links offered by those who dream to the places about them. She checks what she can of the Sanctum, various parts of the Bazaar, the Oasis, and the Eyrie, noticing naught of particular interest to her at present in these places, then switches to a view of the swamp where once the Palace of Skulls stood. The tormented fragments of souls trapped in a state between dream and unlife in many of the corpses of Innocent Blood's army offer her particularly detailed viewing of the undead girl and her preparations. Over millions of years the Night Dragon has seen countless tyrants rise and fall; and the ideas and goals frequently above and beyond their abilities to hold - or even to grasp in many occasions - often amuse her.

I saw a shade of a woman pass here heading to the Forest of the Zoogs. She was flame haired, but pale and wraithlike. Thou wilt need someone to show thee the way. I will come with thee if thou wilt.

"Yes, thank you. I would appreciate any help that you can give me."

She paused for a moment.

"What are the Zoogs? I'm afraid I don't know much about this place."

The purplish ghoul inclines his head

Follow me lady, and I will show thee the way. The Zoogs are a race of dream creatures that trade souls of the Dreamlost with the Gugs and the Black Shadows of Dread N'Granek. They are weak, but their nets of dreamweb are dangerous to be entangled in.

He leads LJ down through the maze. The darkened corners are filled with whisperings and meepings. after a long distance and many confusing turns, the ghoul brings her out onto a darkened plain with a dark menacing forest in front of them.

Behold the Forest of the Zoogs He says

"I thank you for your help, Mr. Pickman. And for your warnings about the Zoog," she says with a respectful nod.

She looks ahead, determined, calling forth the Song of Finding to follow Alaina's trail, while also spinning herself a shield of wind to protect her from the nets of the Zoog.

The ghoul nods again

I must return to my labrynth and my king. Bring thy friend hither once thou hast found her. I will show thee the way back. Ware the whispers and the false counsel of the Zoogs, and look to feline counsel if thou canst find it.

The ghoul retreats back into the darkness

She flies onward, following the trail and thinking on what the ghoul told her. Feline counsel...She'd always been more of a bird person, what with the wings and all...She nearly laughed as she realized how foolish she was being. Leana, of course. She carried a feline companion with her wherever she went.

The forest is dark and quiet, with only the hoot of a distant owl and the scream of a hunting fox breaking the silence. A dirt path winds down through the massive trunks.

LJ keeps a wary eye out as she follows Alaina's trail through the forest. Being down under the trees was beginning to feel a little claustrophobic, but nothing she couldn't handle. So far. She hummed as she flew onwards, never forgetting her purpose here.

As Lynora-Jill walks she starts to hear whisperings in the branches of the higher trees. There seems to be a lively conversation going on a bit down the path

She keeps a wary eye out for whatever is making the whispering noises, and continues down the path, curious as to what she will find there.

LJ comes to a clearing and beholds an odd tableaux. A group of small fey creatures, half goblin, half pixie dressed in browns and greens gather in a circle, looking at a small siver birdcage with a bright spark held within. They mutter amongst themselves

Yess, powerful this one is, many favors the Black Shadows will give for it.

Bright as the forgotten sun it is, almost husts me eyess it doess..

LJ isn't sure if these are the Zoogs she heard of, but she has a bad feeling that the spark in the cage is Alaina.

"Laeana, I need you," she whispers, waiting for the spirit of the lioness to join her before walking forward.

"Excuse me, please, but I don't believe that belongs to you."

I'm guessing that in the dream realm that Laeana is as real as LJ even though she is a spirit outside of the dream realm.

Clever. Using the bound feline spirit. Opens up a lot of options.

Buffy teh Vampire Slayer reference.

Something that the vampire girl is doing catches the Night Dragon's attention, and she switches the view abruptly back to the Oasis; when events underway in the vicinity of those at rest there do not serve, she burns out a precious undetectable link one of her servants had established to the location to find what she wants.
Well really.... she tsks, but a slow, sly, smile crosses her lips nonetheless.
She dismisses the image of the Oasis from the globe, taps it once with the wand, and calls up an image of Smagnavast.
She spends some time briefing the dragon, and then returns her attention to affairs in the Realms of Dream.
