Dral sighs. He touches the barrier, but finds it still is solid. He prays that his message to Lynora got through, and that he is not about to die.
Kobold Cleaver has yet to give the signal to attack, though.

Soon I'm gonna have to save my own characters, and I'm really reluctant to do that. Lynora, is the Goddess going to answer yes or no? If no, which is most likely, I need to break out my deux ex machina.

The answer is a most definitive no. The winds brought her his words. She knows exactly what he said at the Place of the Winds and that he was not an unknowing accomplice. She would never offer sanctuary to someone she knew intended her daughter harm.

Technically, he didn't. Just FYI.

It is finally revealed why Kobold Cleaver was hesitant: There is an enormous white dragon behind the two. Frost hisses at the army, and none seem anxious to approach.
"On my back. Now."
The two frightened mages hustle onto his back. Frost lifts into the air.
"You are Frost?"
"I am."
"Why are you helping us?"
"I have no love for Daelemos. We are old foes. Any enemies of his are allies of mine."
The white dragon flies off into the distance. he decides to send a message alerting Lynora.
:I have saved your two enemies. I apologize, but they know much and I truly need the information. I shall destroy them after they have told me enough:

We now return you to the epic battle taking place above the skies of the Eyrie.

[narrator]When last we left Aidan had been claimed by the powers of Fire and had begun a campaign of destruction, summoning an epic army of Fire. The goddess LJ, still trying to reach that part of Aidan that remains, has sequestered herself and the boy in a demiplane. The Tree Emperor has raised a shield to try to protect the rain of fire aimed first at the eyrie, whilst Sky Cloudgatherer tries to repair the wards cast aside by the power of Flame. Devlyn has tried to free the boy from the evil he is encased in and has been thrown off, and Ch'ack Hammer tries to assist with his weakened powers unsure if he needs to call for aid from his new allies.[/narrator]

LJ smiled as she hugged him back, though there might have been a tear or two of her own.

"Yes, you're back," she whispered. "My love."
"Now, please tell me what happened. And of The Mask's role in it."

LJ hesitated a little, glancing at Arielle.

"It's alright, Mom," the girl said with a shrug. "I was there. It's not like I don't know what they were trying to do."

LJ smoothed Arielle's hair away from her face.

"I know." She looked back at CH. "Arielle was with Azuri'ith at the Place of the Winds having an extended weather lesson. She was at the point where she needed to practice somewhere far away from people. While they were in the middle of a lesson, the Mask and his allies attacked Arielle. They tried to kill her. PlantJack did an oops when he was trying to do something nice and gave Arielle the gift of prophecy. She can't use it, but apparently they didn't know that. Their intention was to kill her and turn her into a lich so they would have a Seer to help them forever. Thankfully, they were unsuccessful. They came underprepared. They were able to banish Azuri'ith back to the Plane of Air, but since Arielle was in the middle of a lesson she had a great deal of weather to work with to defend herself. And then she used the amulet I gave her to bring her safely back here. Now their allies are camped outside. Frogskin's spirit has been tied to the Place of the Winds. Apparently the Mask was done with him. But he went along with enough of it that I am in no hurry to rescue him. The Mask has frogskin's body, but there's no telling how long he'll choose to keep that. He could have already found another by now. As much as I wanted to hunt down the bastards that tried to hurt our child, my first priority had to be making this place safe. For her, and for all the rest who live here. But if I ever catch the ones that tried to do this..."

I am still reading all theses posts but here is the magic you can get from Aidan.

Spoiler:
Strong evocation and traces of a transmutation spell gone wrong.

Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper, but as easily heard as if she had been shouting.

Almost reluctantly, Aidan raises a hand, a ball of white-hot flame held in it.

Morning folks.

.....Good grief. O.o

Okay - not that it's ever that important to the storyline, but where exactly am I crumpled up now? ;P

You had the wind knocked out of you, so your pretty much okay. You are currently next to Allura.

In all fairness, Aidan didn't think of it as a safety net. You might want to start making another one though, I have a feeling LJ is about to get very... mad. ;)

Hmmm. Cirque de Pain = Neverland? I know, [Michael Jackson] it's bad. So bad, un huh.[/Michael Jackson] ;) Sorry, feeling snarky this morning.

"No, Aidan. No one is striking at you. No one is trying to hurt you. The people who care about you have tried to help you in the best way they can. If your thirst for destruction is so great that it can't be slaked any other way, then feel free to unleash as much of it on me as you need to. I know the sting of betrayal. I know that it eats at your heart if you let it. Stop giving it fuel. Open your eyes and see the truth that's right in front of you."

So, Oroth got himself inside the demiplane/bubble with them? No objections, just clarifying.

Biding the conjurer's words, the creatures act. Slamanders wrap themselves aorund the strange web and melt with the help of cambion azers. Pit fiends and Balors work on dispelling CH's power and E7's rain(and by extension, Sky's storm). The elves launch meteor swarms and spears aflame with magic at the group, while red dragons breath fire down upon them. Two efreeti pull Devlyn off Aidan and throw him Allura. Aidan hovers and laughs maniacally.

"Who's up for a little Trial by Fire?"

Too late to catch Devlyn, CH's eye change to blue and black as his weakened tie to metal is dispelled. He weaves Dream and Spirit into a new web, hoping to push some of the denizens from this place or hold them fast.

So are the efreeti still there, or were they banished? What was the final verdict in the case of Champion Summons vs. Goddess Wards? :)

The Dalesman wrote:

E7 currently has shields up against the summoned stuff. Those that got through get one attack before what's left of the wards sends them packing. And Sky is putting the wards back up. At least that's what he's supposed to be doing. :)

Yeah, I thought he would at least come with them because of his brother. Stupid demiplane ruined my plan. Remember the salamander and cambion azer that 'vanished'? I was going to have them hold Arielle hostage, with strict instruction not to harm her(just keep her from using magic). A distraction so Aidan could flee safely.

"Are you forgetting the other way your tantrum would stop?"
He glances back at LJ.
"May I ask a favor of you, oh Goddess of the Songs?
Hint, hint.

Gee, I'm so broken up about fouling up that plan. ;)

"Of course you can, Oroth."

Music begins to build in volume moving through the demiplane and winding around Aidan.

I'm presuming you want a Lullabye, which is what she's doing.

Gotcha - then the 'grab & toss' would have been their attack before they go away. I'm just going to assume that LJ's bubble came up very quickly after that - it's the only way Devlyn wouldn't have gotten right back in the mix to bring Aidan back. :)

Yeah, sorry about that. :) Not that he'd like it in there. It is both very, very bright (LJ is still glowing. She pretty much looks like a humanoid shape made out of pure light at the moment.) and likely to become quite hot. :)

Hit him harder! Make him stop!

This song is from a graphic novel called "Mouseguard, Winter 1152", by David Petersen. Edited to make sense.

As Orothe sings, to spots of light, humanoid in shape, begin to grow in front of him. Each word causes Aidan's form to haze and become cloudy, letting the old Aidan be seen behind the smoke and fire.

"On a long journey to Glen-Stone
I sailed right into it's shade.
There before me she porudly shone
My decision already made."

"A lass who bore the light of the town
Her hair of ivory thread
How she danced is stuck in my crown
And back to this Glen my boat led."

"Twenty some seaons have since passed
Since her eyes and mine both met
Through lands unnamed and wildly vast
My blade slaying every threat."

The forms become more distinct, and man and woman holding hands.

"Wolf, Fox, Hawk, and Snake
Can't stand in my way
My body is weak and it may break
Though not today."

"Living in blackness wrought with fright
My steel shattered facing the foes
Dusks and Dawns darker than night
My companions in rows."

"Life spilled past me staining the ground
My limbs grow ever so cold
Above villians let out a cackling sound
Saying I'll never grow old."

Now the forms can be seen singing along, though the words cannot be heard.

"One dance and one woman played in my mind
Calling me back from the doom
The courage to carry on I did find
To raise me out of my tomb."

"Wolf, Fox, Hawk, and Snake
Can't stand in my way
My body is weak and it may break
Though not today."

"Battered and bruised I stood to my feet
Raising what little I owned
Predators growl caring not for my cause
Now for foreign lands I sail free."

Now the couple can be seen clearly. The man looks like an older version of Oroth, his voice adds depth to the song. The woman has the smae eyes and hair as Aidan(if he were not being controlled by the Fire), and her voice and hieght to the ballad.

"Amidst the loss and sorrow I've spent
'Twas it worth the cost?
Back into Glen-Stone my ship I sent
For the Ivory Lass I had lost"

"Wolf, Fox, Hawk, and Snake
Can't stand in my way
My body is weak and it may break
Though not today."

As the song ends, the Fire tries to regain conrol. But Aidan is embraced by his parents, and try as it might to fight it, the Fire dies down to an ember, then fades away completely.

His armor disappears, leaving only normal clothes behind. Slowly, his hair changes to silver, never to fully regain it's old color. His eyes go black, burnt away is the original color. His skin is still pale, but no longer the color of ash. His smokey wings disperse, as if caught in a breeze, anf he floats in his parents spectral hug.

It wouldn't have stopped him from going in there. I won't make a scene by pounding on the outside of the bubble, though. Bad form, that.... ;D

Devlyn's eyes snap back open a few moments later, and he gets his feet back under him as he draws his sword. Noting that the two efreet that tossed him are nowhere to be found (as are most of the things that Aidan summoned), he returns it to his Quiver.

"I've really got to get this healing thing to work faster" he grunts as he looks at the glowing sphere that presumably now encapsulates LJ and Aidan.

"They're in there, aren't they?"

"Yes," Allura said. "LJ basically told him that if he wanted to hurt someone, then he should aim at her, and then she sealed them inside that bubble. I think Oroth made it in there too. And now we just have to wait and hope for the best."

There are still tears sliding down her cheeks. She will heal Devlyn if he is still hurt.

"I really do have to go, you know." Lilsa repeats. "If I don't, the spirit will be ever so annoyed, and it's bad from to keep them waiting."
Not trying to get you guys to free Frogskin, just kind of showing what Lilsa is like sometimes. If JH locks her in a broom closet, make sure he punches air holes.

It would seems I can't change this accursed avatar right now. The internet can't seem to display the page I want, so I can't click on the stupid pic to change it!

If he was injured, those injuries are gone now. Granted, he probably did hit the side of the cliff head first, and that noggin of his is harder than adamantine... ;)

For Allura's eyes only:

Spoiler:
She's noticed that his wounds have been healing much faster as the last few months have worn on. Minor nicks and scratches barely last a moment, and major injuries have only been a few moments' inconvenience to him.

He puts a hand on her face, trying to wipe the tears away.

"If our words fell on deaf ears, he would have already left, or pushed the attack in earnest. Have a little faith in LJ and Oroth - we'll get him back, love."

LJ? Bring 'em home.

The bubble fades away, and LJ, Oroth, and Aidan are once more visible. The light emanating from LJ starts to fade and she looks tired and pale. She walks over to a nearby wall and slides down to a sitting position, leaning back against the wall. She tried not to make it too obvious that she was shaking.

Now being held up by Oroth, Aidan looks up at everyone.

"Wha... what happened? I remember being hit by negative energy then... it's all fuzzy after that."

"Aidan! You're alright. You're you again!" Allura started crying again, but this time because she was happy. She rushed over and hugged both Oroth and Aidan.
"Don't scare us like that again!"
