The djinn stumbles out of the omniportal, falling to his knees in front of Lynora, not as much as a gesture of respect this time, as because he is no longer able to stand.

Djuhah! What happened? She quickly casts Heal on him.

"Thank you, My Lady," he gasped, "I went to the Sanctum of the Sun and while I was there this crazed thing with a very large hammer came in yelling and attacking people. I tried to engage it in combat, but I'm afraid I was in over my head. There were several fighting it at the end. Even the Sun God himself. It was killed in the end and I think that they are mostly alright although a goodly amount of damage was done to the Sanctum."

A hammer?!

Was it a large blue barbarian?!

JH stands tall, and his eyes glow fiercely.

If it only was that easy...

Did he kill anyone?

Djuhah frowns as he thinks about it. He nearly killed me. The priestess was in pretty bad shape, but the Sun God seemed to have that well in hand. I think. She collapsed. I left before I could see if she had regained consciousness. He seemed to enjoy getting hit with the soulbond weapons the servants of the Sun God were using. I cannot say for certain that none of the onlookers died. I did my best, but there was so much debris and flame flying I cannot be certain none got through. To the best of my knowledge no one died.

We need to get to Alaina! Any trace of taint from his wounds can be deadly.

Yes, we should go right away. She heads for the omniportal along with JH. Djuhah, you may as well come along too.

Mmmmmmm.......roadkill.

Sky continues to watch over his eggs, though recent events have unsettled him. It's obvious he wants to investigate, but he can't leave the eggs unguarded and without warmth.

He won't accept the vulture's help.

:If you wish to serve, I will guard your eggs until you return. I would not prevent one from joining in the fight as they wish. I promise I will look after them as if they were my own.:

:I thank you noble hawk. I shall return when I know what has transpired. Use this feather should you have any questions or need my assistance. You must call for me should they start to hatch.:

*With a mighty flap of his wings, Sky rises from his nest and dives through the omniportal, a feather floating down into the nest as the portal flashes.*

To Starhawks:

Spoiler:
There are two types of eggs in the nest, with only subtle differences. Four of the eggs are slightly bigger and are darker in color, while the smaller ones have flesh-colored streaks across their shells.

The djinn steps through the omniportal carrying the unconscious form of Sky Cloudgather. He lays the man gently down.
"Azuri'ith! The Star Song is in need of help. She has gone into the beyond in search of her friend, and it is causing her great trouble. We must aid her."

"Then take this," the elder air elemental says, handing the djinn a silver medallion set with diamonds in the swirling galaxy pattern. "You can use this to channel energy from this place to her as she needs. Go quickly."

The djinn nods and steps back through the omniportal clutching the amulet.

*Hours later, Sky groans and tries to sit up. Slowly he is able to stand, though it takes quite awhile before he can fly back to his nest.*
"Hello friend hawk. I afraid I've reached my limit trying to help LJ and I need you to stay a bit longer, at least till my strength comes back. How were the eggs?"

:They are still well. Growing as they should. I will help you for as long as you need. If they begin to hatch, I will alert you, and lend you what strength I can.:

:Thank you, they should be hatching in the next week or so.:

*Sky shifts to his eagle form and, sticking his head under his wing, promptly falls asleep.*

At this point his mind travels to The Realms Of Dream. Lynora its up to you if you want the eggs to hatch, otherwise they'll hatch later on.

A lone celestial eagle comes flying in at great speed.

"Azuri'ith! She comes! The evil one has brought her army into the Place of the Wind!"

A young Starhawk looks on with large old-looking eyes

:Sky Cloudgather, you must awaken. The eggs are hatching. And trouble is coming:

We must move the eggs and newly hatched chicks to safety. We have prepared a room for them inside the cliff where they will be better defended if the undead attack the Eyrie.

With an electric crackle and stink of ozone, for a moment a rift between worlds is torn open, and a dozen nymphs, dressed in mithril shirts and sable cloaks and robes come riding through, from the Realm of Dreams, on the backs of monstrous direbats. With lances of moonlight at their sides, and helms of dark admantine upon their heads the nymphs ride the canyons, calling to one another, pointing and gesturing, and leaving trails of mist and shadows lingering in their wake.

"Elder One, who were they? And whose side are they on?"

Azuri'ith shook his head, watching the departing nymphs closely.

"I do not know, child. And right now we cannot afford to stretch our resources to find out. Stay close."

Criss-crossing the skies, the nymphs have soon viewed the Eyrie and the terrain about it from most angles, and then they sweep off towards the Place of Winds, and the army gathered there...

The dark cloud that is the bat-riding nymphs comes into view again, rushing back through the air towards the peas that house the Eyrie from the greater darkness gathered over the Place of Winds.

The residents of the Eyrie watch warily as they are currently engaged in moving their young to a more defensible position.

Trailing the shadows and mist behind them, like a dozen dark and gleaming thunderbolts, the nymphs tear through the skies, accelerating at the last, as a rift to the Realms of Dreams slashes vividly open before them, ancient and powerful sorcery bridging the planes.
Then, with a final crackle and discharge of sparks, the rift slams shut and the riders are gone, returned to whatever place they call home. Behind them on the distant horizon, at the Place of Winds, is the hubbub and buzz of the disturbed army of the undead.

Sky quickly wakes, and power anew flows through his veins. He quickly assists in moving them, watching the creatures moving just outside warily. When they have left his full turns to the eggs. The eggs hatch in pairs, a dire eagle chick from the larger ones, and an elven babe from the smaller ones. He gently cleans each one, and places feathers and blankets around them to keep them warm. He opens his pack when the time comes to feed the hatchlings, pieces of meat for the eaglets and puoches of milk for the babies. When they sleep, he dons his eagle form to nestle over them like any eagle would.

:Are there any questions?:

I'm done for the night and will ansewr any and all questions when I can, so ask away. If need be I will institute a time warp. ;p

:Why would there be any questions, Herald?:
The Starhawk tilts her head quizzically. She has been most helpful in moving the eggs and assisting Sky during the hatching.
:When the fighting begins, I will watch over the chicks for you. I will claim nest-right for them. You do not have to fear for them.:

No, he hasn't said anything about the herald thing yet. Told you these birds were psionic :)

*Flys through the thread, looking for someone to breath on*

Jay Frogskin flies in.
"Plantjack requests assistance in his defense of the Place of the Winds."

*Sky closes his eyes. When they open his eyes swirl like LJ's holy symbol. Though he doesn't move, those near can sense he is going to help in his own way.*

The air shimmers and attended by half a dozen goblins riding on broomsticks, the Eighth Runelord appears close to where Jay Frogskin is. (The archmage himself has the appearance of simply standing on empty air.)
You have a problem, he glances at Frogskin.
Someone I have been attempting to monitor has been tampering near the Sanctum of the Sun, I have reason to believe. I could not be certain of their actions, but I believe that they mean the place ill. You may like to inform Plantjack of that, in whatever place he has currently gotten himself to.

Edit:
He is near here, is he not?
The Runelord shades his eyes and looks in the direction of the Place of Winds.

He has let his passion rule his strategy, the Runelord shakes his head. There are a multitude more futures that I see where PlantJack has done more harm than good with this unplanned and unco-ordinated attack against a dug-in foe.
The vampire girl has little patience. That could have been used as a weapon against her to her army's undoing. Someone had best get your friend Plantjack out of there.
He frowns.
I had not foreseen this - Riders of the air, from out of the Realms of Dream...
He recalls himself to his current situation.
You are unlikely, even if you beat her army, to be able to make an end even temporarily to the vampire girl without a suitable weapon. I have knowledge that Ebony Jaguar, when he took her under his wing, tied to destroy three stakes of mountain ash, each bound with a band of silver, inscribed with runes sacred to a long gone sun god. He found he could not unmake them, so scattered or hid them instead.
One is in the possession of the Runelords, but there are restraints upon its use - it cannot be used except in defence of the interests of at least four of the senior Runelords. Another was cast into the Realms of Dream, and is beyond my sight. The third was recently in the possession of the dracolich Candle Lighter - it may be that he still has it, though he might not realise that he has it. Or he might have traded it away, or had it stolen from him. It might be disguised in some fashion...

Perhaps other methods may exist to lay her to rest, the Runelord shrugs. At any event, I must depart.
The goblins start circling on their broomsticks, and chanting...
'Gypsies, gypsy witches, on the heath,
Dancing, circling, dancing, 'cross the ground,
Gypsies, gypsy witches, on the heath,
Cursing all and sundry who around...'

The Runelord rolls his eyes at this point as if to say 'you see the minions I have to work with?' and then vanishes, taking hs escort of goblins with him.

Frogskin sighs.
"It isn't unplanned. He's been planning it for a while. He doesn't expect to win, though."

"Then he has pointlessly wasted resources we can ill afford. I am sorry that we cannot help him. It is not yet time for the Army of the Air to enter the battle. Our Champion is not yet returned from her mission to save a friend. Though it seems that she has sent what help she could," he says looking at Sky, making note of the swirling stars that now fill his eyes in the same way as Lynora-Jill's.

"I should rephrase that. He doesn't expect to make it. it doesn't matter now, he has the help we need, we have gotten help from an old friend."

*Though his eyes do not change, Sky turns to the elder air elemental, his voice not his own.*
"Azuri'ith you should go comfort your daughter at the Grove. She needs you more than we do here at the Eyrie."
*His head turns back toward the Place of the Winds.*

"No, Herald. I cannot go. I am needed here." His voice is weighed down with sorrow. "There is no comfort to be had. You do not know, and I hope you never do, the pain of watching your children die. But it is a burden I seem to be doomed to bear. When the Army of the Air flies into battle, the Star Song will die. Whether she will return to us again, I do not know. But this must be or we will fail. I would take her place if I could, but my wishes do not matter now. Some must be sacrificed if all are to be saved. Be ready to take up the mantle of Champion when she falls, Herald."

Azuri'ith wrote:
"I cannot go."

"I will defend this place to my death and beyond. Go, tend to your young while I fight to keep mine safe. Nothing solid or spirit shall go unnoticed within this holy place."

*His voice is filled with reassurance, and Azuri'ith knows he speaks the truth.*

I'm done for the nigh- day. It's 1 am where I am. Good luck and goodnigh- um, I mean day.

The chick just gaining his first true feathers is chivvied along to his new defensive nest

"Kra! I want to fight the bad guys!"

:I know, little one. I too wish to join the fighting. But some of us must stay to preserve our future. Will you help me watch over the newly hatched chicks? It is a solemn duty, and a necessary one if the Lady's Herald is to fight without distraction.:

Keehaar krrs sulkily, but does help the other Starhawks

Keehaar wrote:

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. The starhawks in general are helping move the chicks, but one in particular is staying behind. She already promised Sky that she would look after his chicks while he was fighting.

Blodwen watches the others leave sadly. She wants to join the battle too, but she promised. And someone has to stay.

No worries. Keehaar is looking to fight, as any fiesty Starhawk chick would

Keehaar nestles up to Blodwen when the other smaller chicks are situated.

I wish we could go Blodwen, he sulks

Blodwen ruffles his feathers with her beak.

:I know, little one. I too wish I could join the fighting. But this time it is our job to guard the chicks.:
