Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
Dhakira helps Jamie to stabilize the thugs, since she came back to life, the power of Pharasma lets her do so with just a touch.
And who do you work for?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 If the thug answers.
GM Inara |
The man who spoke out before cautiously rises to his feet, hands up in the air to show his lack of harmful intentions.
"We were paid to do it. We hold no quarrel with you. Look, take our things and don't hurt us any further, we were paid already."
He sighs and clutches at his side, wincing in pain. "We were hired to ambush anyone approaching this old temple down the way." He says, gesturing further down the street. "Don't know why, and didn't ask either. Never asked the woman's name, but she was clearly Taldan and wore a ridiculously large hat."
Its clear to everyone that this man is telling the full truth, he just wants to get out of here alive with his friends.
If you so choose to take them, they have: 3 *(padded armor, khopesh, mwk longbow with 10 arrows) and 2*(tanglefoot bag, padded armor, mwk scimitar, net with 50 feet of rope)
Uthe |
"We will take your gear as recompense," Uthe states, taking no steps to retrieve it herself. "And perhaps you should consider more carefully for what you will prostitute yourself."
Ammon Al-Mukhalas |
"Yeah, you'd better consider against any future dealings of this nature. You're intruding upon the pact between the church of Pharasma and The Ruby Prince. If we chose to arrest you, you'd probably be executed for treason and on the wrong side of her mercy in the afterlife," Ammon says, going about disarming the group and collecting their gear (except the armor, as it was barely worth anything, heavy and hard to carry).
"Tell me your name. Then, you leave. And not back to Wati. If I ever see any of you near my friends and you make me regret this..."
Ammon doesn't finish, but draws his Cold Iron Falcata and twists it so that the midday sun gleams malevolently on the black blade. He then waits for the speaker to say his name, and confirms this with a second now unconscious after he wakes up, just to ensure it's truthful.
Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
When they spoke their names, Dhakira makes sure that her symbol is easily visible when she sopports Ammon's words.
"My pharasmin colleagues would not be happy to learn that someone interfered with the exploration of the necropolis they have pver for more than a hundred years. Make sure we don't hear about you ever again in Wati!"
Say'ri Al Bashere |
Say'ri stands back and watches as her crew put the frighteners on these men, and do a very good job of it too. She considers shooting between the mens legs as they flee - but they aren't worth the powder...
"So, the Scorched Fist didn't want to play fair..." She says. "Well let's be ready for them, and if anyone gets a chance to pull that damn woman's hat over her eyes. Do it!"
Ammon Al-Mukhalas |
"So, the Scorched Fist didn't want to play fair..." She says. "Well let's be ready for them, and if anyone gets a chance to pull that damn woman's hat over her eyes. Do it!"
Ammon grins, watching the thugs flee with her. "I'm kinda curious what she'd hiding under it. There has to be some reason the hat's that big? Or is that just some Taldan fashion thing, Jamie?"
From the selected weapons, he inspects the bows and draws them back, measuring cord resistance and the flexibility of the wood. "While they didn't put up much of a fight, these bows are very high quality. I think I'll take one for myself, just in case. Anyone else want one, too? Might make a good backup weapon for you, Say'ri, if you ever want to fire at something without alerting the entire city," he says, grinning at her.
Jazadi Kimendyne |
Jazadi gathers up her whip and shakes her head. "I don't really know how to use one of those. They're a bit too big for me."
Jamie Vernisant |
”It’s gaudy, ostentatious, and utterly impractical. Just the kind of the style that’s all the rage in the Taldan courts,” Jamie says with a smirk. ”Let us make haste to the temple!”
Say'ri Al Bashere |
"While they didn't put up much of a fight, these bows are very high quality. I think I'll take one for myself, just in case. Anyone else want one, too? Might make a good backup weapon for you, Say'ri, if you ever want to fire at something without alerting the entire city," he says, grinning at her.
"What would be the fun in that?" Say'ri asks, matching Ammon's grin with her own. "I'll carry it for you though."
Once the weapons are distributed she smiles at the group. "Well, a cowardly ambush couldn't stop us - let's move out Falcons! Show the Burned Fingers that they can't stop us either!"
Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
Dhakira looks over the loot. ''Nice quality. I don't know how to use the bow either. Maybe eventually a crossbow would suit me better if we come across a nice one. We should keep those Tanglefoot bags handy though, they could prove useful.''
''As for the ridiculous hat, maybe she feels she has something to prove...'' She follows Say'ri and Jamie's lead towards the temple. ''I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.''
Uthe |
Ammon Al-Mukhalas wrote:"Might make a good backup weapon for you, Say'ri, if you ever want to fire at something without alerting the entire city," he says, grinning at her."What would be the fun in that?" Say'ri asks, matching Ammon's grin with her own. "I'll carry it for you though."
"Yes. Gods forbid that you would not damage your companion's sensitive ears with your 'Boom' weapon," Uthe snarks with a roll of her golden eyes.
Jazadi Kimendyne |
"Well, let's be frank here--subtlety is a thing for philosophy or academia, not combat." Jazadi pipes up. "If you're going to kill someone, you might as well be thorough about it."
Uthe |
"Yes, of course. Why would humans wish to be anything but crude, loud, and stinky," Uthe counters. "That is neither here nor there, however. We must be about our task. To the temple."
Say'ri Al Bashere |
"Well it worked when we had to kill that div." Say'ri responds with a teasing smile. "I don't recall the subtlety and awesome power of arcane magic being much help at that point..."
Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
Dhakira intervenes gently between the two "Now, now, this is not a competition. Say'ri's boomstick has saved our skins more than once, but so has Uthe's magic."
Uthe |
"Well it worked when we had to kill that div." Say'ri responds with a teasing smile. "I don't recall the subtlety and awesome power of arcane magic being much help at that point..."
Uthe's ears turn back a little and her eyes close slightly. A jingling is heard as her tail begins to swish back and forth. "Are you challenging us for the dominant position in future mounting?" she questions.
Say'ri Al Bashere |
"Eh, don't worry, Dhakira. They'll make it up to eachother in the bedroom." He winks at the dwarf as he moves past, all the loot slung in a sack over his shoulder. "Let's start exploring this temple so they can be back early!"
"I like how you think Ammon!" Say'ri says with a grin. "Hey, you and Jamie should get in an argument so that you can be wrong and make it up to her in the bedroom too!"
Uthe |
Uthe looks back and forth between Say'ri and the others. "Avoiding a question is the behavior of a mtoto. But we shall ignore the failing because we believe that you can be taught better habits," she says finally, lifting her nose into the air and continuing on past the dark-haired woman.
As she passes, in the blink of an eye, she leans down and nips the woman's shoulder with her teeth. "If properly disciplined," she adds with a laugh as she quickens her pace.
GM Inara |
Continuing further down the street, this time more cautiously, you come across the position marked upon the map.
Although the temple's central nave appears symmetrical from outside, the rest of the structure does not conform to traditional architecture, with wings and extensions on both sides that, except for the uniformity of the stonework, appear to have been haphazard additions. A large dome over the apse tops the roof at the north end of the temple. It is windowless, and the temple’s exterior walls are carved with the usual representations of Nethys and other celestial figures.
Unless otherwise noted, ceilings inside are 15 feet high and dark
No doors block the grand entrance to this building—a wide flight of steps leads directly up into the temple’s interior. Two humanoid statues flank the stairs, wearing black-and-white masks and holding quarterstaves. Just inside the entry, two rows of columns lead toward an archway in the north wall. Two smaller passages open to the east and west.
Pick a direction, any direction!
Say'ri Al Bashere |
Say'ri looks around, places a finger on her lips and points westwards, before leading the group in that direction.
GM Inara |
Through the opening to the North, you see a fountain and much larger room at the edge of your sight range.
Quietnly sneaking west however, you come across a series of cubicles encircling an open central space here, each separated from the common area by a curtain hanging from a rod over the doorway.
Make stealth rolls if choosing to move quietly after Say'ri.
You hear some moaning and unintelligible sounds behind three of the curtains. Sounds like the undead of some variation.
Jazadi Kimendyne |
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Perception?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Jazadi's eyes widen briefly and a blush threatens to appear on her face before she recognizes the source of the moaning. She points to the three curtains from which the moaning is coming from.
Ammon Al-Mukhalas |
stealth: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Try as he might, there really was no way for Ammon to be all that stealthy when he was carrying a sack with all kinds of metallic loot. Especially not when *also* wearing leather armor with metal plates attached on the outside which the universe had somehow decided made an insane amount of noise.
*CLANK* "So Say'ri," *Clank* "I was wondering, how about we-" *CLANK* "Throw another party for the other groups when we're done here? Might save us another betrayal if-"
*CLANK* *CRASH*
"!@#$%! Ah, sorry, my bad! Damn loose stones - wish I could complain to someone about the poor condition these paths are in..."
*CLANK*
He sighed. "Oh well. You just scout ahead while I repack all this stuff back in. Say... where's all that sound coming from? Is that moaning coming from behind the curtain?"
Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
Stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Dhakira cringes at the noise when Ammon starts walking and talking, then gets deeply embarrassed when she realizes that she’s barely less noisy..
« Ammon, Say’ri is trying to be quiet, you shouldn’t be talki... » *CLANK* Her dusky cheeks redden. « Oops, sorry. » *SCREESH* her metal covered shoulder rubs on the wall. *SIGH* « Yes Ammon, a party sounds like a good idea when we go back. »
Hearing the moaning noises over the racket when they’re getting near the cubicles, she stops in her tracks. « Be careful, those sound undead! And they probably heard us already. So I might as well cast a spell. » she grabs her holy symbol and prays to Pharasma for protection. Resistance
Uthe |
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Perception vs DC 12: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Even with bells hanging from parts of her body, Uthe is still quieter than both Ammon and Dhakira. She still seems too preoccupied with the small glowing stone that's orbiting her head to notice anything else, though.
Jamie Vernisant |
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Jamie tries her best to be stealthy.
Say'ri Al Bashere |
Say'ri winces, winces again and then throws her hands up in the air.
"Shall I just fire my pistol into every room, in case someone didn't hear us?" She suggests. "How about a new plan? Jamie and I go ahead to make sure nothing too strange is there and the rest of you wait so that you won't be quite so damn noisy? Plan? Good. Now, everyone got your killing faces on?"
She waits for assent from everyone, and someone to get the cat focused on the oncoming fight rather than the floating light before pulling open a curtain.
Buckler and Rapier for this fight.
Dhakira Menedes V of Erekrus |
« Yes, right, sorry. » Dhakira stands as quietly as she can at the opening of the room. She will try to identify the undead creatures as soon she sees any.
Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
GM Inara |
Upon hearing the clattering that echoes through the old temple, everything falls silent for a second, before the sounds of undead groaning start up again as the curtains part, three zombies exiting three different cubicles wearing only a few soiled rags, their flesh rotting off their bones as they stumbles forward, arms outstretched.
Say'ri and Jazadi can act.

Jazadi Kimendyne |
Striking from ambush, Jazadi moves away from the southern curtain and snaps her whip at the northernmost zombie!
Scorpion whip does Slashing damage.
Whip Strike *Luck*: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
And she savagely menaces the curtain billowing around it!
Ammon Al-Mukhalas |
Realising he hadn't been particularly subtle about the approach and hearing moaning coming from more than one direction, Ammon quickly invokes Osiris' power and intercepts the enemy approaching Jamie and Jazadi!
Cast divine favor, move action to in front of Jamie and Jazadi.
Say'ri Al Bashere |
Say'ri steps up to face off against a zombie, fighting defensively to buy her friends time.

Uthe |
Uthe moves closer, but tips her head at the sight of the zombies. "These must be recent," she says. "If they were from the original plague then they would have decayed into skeletons by now."
Deciding that it doesn't really matter, she sends a splash of acid at the southern-most one.

Two of the Zombies claw out, swiping at Say'ri and Ammon with their yellowed curling finger nails but their slow movements are easy to dodge.
The other lumbers forwards towards Dhakira and Jamie.

Say'ri: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Uthe's acid burns off some of the Zombies already rotting flesh as Jamie manages to slice off its head as it thumps to the floor.
Ammon slices another in two as Jazadi trips the one that Say'ri fails to hit.
Coming from the direction you entered from, there is a low scraping sound, as if rock is being scored along rock.
One Zombie left, tripped on the floor. Say'ri can act.
Say'ri Al Bashere |
Hearing something strange coming, and unable to achieve much against the zombies anyway Say'ri beats a hasty retreat through the group and pulls her pistol - ready to face the strange stone noise.

The materials of the building next to Say'ri stretch and pull as if made of elastic, taking on the form of an earthen figure with thick stony arms, a roughly hewn torso, and a chiseled, vaguely humanoid head.
It rushes forwards with unexpected speed, slamming into Say'ri. Luckily she steps sideways just in time and her pistol fires, chipping it slightly.

Ammon gratefully makes use of Jazadi's trip and follow up attack to destroy the final zombie.
Then, he hears Say'ri shooting her gun in the hallway behind him. He looks around and sees a chokepoint he'd never be able to get through to help. "Say'ri! What's going on over there? Fall back and I can take over!" he shouts.
