As the group arrives at their destination, they notice the Bazaar is deserted. Shops are closed and stalls are empty of owner and customer. In the distance, smoke can be seen rising above the building and architecture. Devlyn recognizes the vicinity as where he last saw Solmyr. As for the sounds of battle and magic, none can be heard.

"Oh for the love of.....well, this should be interesting."

;P

"Alright - my guess is that the city watch has cordoned off the Bazaar until they can find out what the heck is going on. If they have patrols around, we'll probably have to avoid them for the time being."

"Tristan - we're following your lead here. Show us where we need to go first."

Arielle frowns at the smoke in the distance, and discreetly as she can starts slowly gathering clouds above the Bazaar.

Time for me to fly - g'night all :)

SSSQQQQUUUEEEEEE!

Got my copy of the Pathfinder Bestiary in the mail today.

Now, I'm lost in a new book.

Mornin' all, and I hope you didn't stay up all night reading the Bestiary, BP! ;)

I'm hoping mine ships soon enough today that I can get the PDF before my RL game tonight - I really would like to see the new ogre information (fingers crossed)

Good morning.

LK walks next to Arielle and Tristan.

"Do you realize we all meet here in the Bazaar?"

::This way. My home is near that pillar of smoke.::

As Tristan raises his finger to point in the general direction of the pillar of smoke, an alarming cry is heard.

Up from the street, several Mamluks and what appears to be a wizard is approaching the group.

"That was quick. Let's see what we can find out and then get moving."

BP - Do these folks bear the city colors, or do they look to be mercenaries?

::Yup. Uh-oh.::

As Tristan sees the Mamluks marching towards their direction, he sidesteps behind the adults, especially Devlyn or Allura

They bear the city's colors. A simple KNOWLEDGE: LOCAL can convey more information.

"What's this before me? More sorcery and fire demons no less. To arms! Wizard prepare your worse!"

Devlyn adjusts his cowl as he pats Tristan on the shoulder.

"We'll talk to them, and then we go."

He calls out to the approaching people:
"Glad to see there are still some people in the Bazaar? What's the situation? Do we have a problem other than a fire here?" he asks, pointing toward the column of smoke in the distance.

Mamluk of the Bazaar wrote:

Gotcha. Devlyn would have done so, especially if it allowed him to ID whether or not they're normal Watch, or something else entirely. He can hit a DC 30 even with a low roll...

"What's this before me? More sorcery and fire demons no less. To arms! Wizard prepare your worse!"

"Um...what fire demons, guys? What's going on?"

Why do I feel they're talking about me? I'm not even sure I'm here..

"Eh, it wages its foul tongue at us!"

Devlyn soon realizes that the Mamluks are pressing thier charge towards his group in a tight formation, bearing shields and swords.

Here comes another fly in the proverbial ointment.

You're here. Trust me. :)

Tristan tugs on Devlyn's sleeve.

::Something's not right here...::

"Allura? Something's messed with their heads. Can you try to snap them out of whatever's boggling their senses before they get hurt?"

"That about sums it up, yep. Looks like Zhalail is playing some more games to keep eyes off of her endeavors. Hang back with the others until we can incapacitate these guys."

A low, almost inaudible growl comes from LK, though his body language makes him seem relaxed and loose.
Asuming there are a lot of them, Whirling Winds fighting style, see profile.

"I think they are a bit late if they want a fire demon. Moonfire on the other hand..." Aidan whispers from behind Devlyn.

Counting on those ears of yours!

"Thses poor deluded fools have no idea who they threaten do they? Guess we'll have to knock some sense into them. Without, killing them if possible."

Meanwhile, not far off, the Servants are having similar problems.
Their captain, a gnome by the name of Erus looks for a man of the law.

"Care to explain what is going on? We have heard rumors of a cult following Zalail or some such is causing trouble in the Bazarr."

Oroth Sunschild wrote:

"Without killing them period - zero fatalities. These guys aren't in control of their own minds. If anyone has anything that can break mental control or illusions, use it now. Otherwise we subdue them. Now."

Devlyn Shadow Jumps to the side of the wizard, Quick-Drawing a quarterstaff from his efficient quiver, and popping the guy in the head/throat to keep him from casting. All damage he inflicts is non-lethal unless stated otherwise.

I'm not going to hurt them more than absolutely necessary, but I am putting them down ASAP.... :)

Sword raised above his head, Oroth speaks a word of power, and weakening energy surges through the bodies of the guards.

The Mass Whelm spells from PHB2. Points and points of nonlethal damage.

Beauty...love those whelm spells :)

Unconcerned with Devlyn's disappearance, the sorcerer directs his voice at the heroes.

"You will not be allowed to interfere with the events at the warehouse. It is forbidden."

Then the cowled sorcerer effortlessly grabs Devlyn's staff and pulls the dalesman out of the shadows. He flings Devlyn into the advancing Mamluk and bowls them over like a stack of pins. Out from the sleave of his robe drops and bladed howling chain. It rises on its own accord seeking to strike for his master.

Devlyn instantly recognizes the scent of brimstone from the cowled sorcerer

"My master says I can not kill you, not yet, not now. But accidents have been known to happen. Bloody accidents. And you Tristan, we will have you, sooner or later."

The howling chain flings itself angrily at Tristan.

The cowled sorcerer's identity will remain secret until he gets his own avatar.

I am assuming that it is only this mob that is controlled, and therefore the policeman told Erus nothing useful.
Erus sighs and thanks the man heading toward the Bazarr with his men. When they see the mob, though, he sighs.
"I was afraid of this. Men, fan out, make sure that there are no civilians in there other than those ones. Tari, check for any enchantments."
The young woman does so. "I think I see something, sir, but it's hard to make out at this distance."
Erus nods. "Alright, then. Do not use lethal force unless absolutely necessary, but we must subdue the mob. I detect the demon behind this."

Devlyn rolls with the impact, letting the mamluks slow him down as he rolls to his feet. "Sorry guys," he mumbles under his breath as he speeds back toward the sorcerer.

"Keep talking, Smoky - you might actually bore me to death."

Spring Attack with the holy two-bladed sword for emphasis, skidding to a halt between the sorcerer and the group.

They'll have to handle the chain, I'm guessing...

BluePigeon wrote:

Using the magics in his blood, Tristan instinctively creates a small circular shield of hardened ethereal matter in front of him. The bladed chain punctures the shield and misses the young sorcerer's face by inches. It retracts, taking the shield, but not Tristan with it.

They call me Thuhl. Remember that.

As Devlyn swings his blade it strikes the surface of the returning shield. Sparks fly as it slowly dissipates into its raw form.

The cowled sorcerer yanks the chain and lets the motion ripple until it strikes Devlyn across the chest. The Daleman's slides once again.

Fool.

The Mamluks, from Oroth's magics and Devlyn's physical collisions, collapse in a heap of unconscious limbs and scattered arms and armaments. The way is clear for Oroth to advance.

A dark roar fills the air, as Shadow Pelt appears on the roof of a nearby building.

A long time ago I posted that Allura and Devlyn had heard rumors of a large black cat prowling the Bazaar, and Devlyn does want a good reason to not be down in The Tunnels...

Also? Worst. Catfight. Ever.

"'Tool' you said? Fitting name, actually - got it."

Devlyn ignores the blow, but uses its momentum to curve his trajectory, accelerating to full speed as he brings his blades to bear on him again.

LK jumps high in the air, holding his axe above his head with both hands. He throws the axe at Thul with such force it whistles through the air. The axe itself is only masterwork.

"Jerk!"

Shadow Pelt wrote:

The first one, or the one that's about to happen? I'm confused... ;)

Little Kiba's masterwork weapon strikes Thuhl with full force but the blade has no significant effect on him. Devlyn's sword slices him but hte metal seems to pass through his body harmlessly. The wound he suffers seems to regenerate, but rather slowly.

"Oh dear, A holy weapon, in the name of the Abyss, what am I to do." He says in a mocking tone.

Two more howling chains drop from his sleeves and he sends them forward into the group.

Alright - I've got to head home and prep for my RL game tonight. I'll try to hop back on for a little bit when I get there - back in a bit :)

I'll continue to check the forums off and on for the rest of the day. And my vacation came to an end yesterday. So I'm back at work tonight. I'm for a nap. If you receive your copy of PF Bestiary by the weekend, you're in for a treat. Anyways, I can continue this throughout monday. I hope to wrap it up soon and get you to Tristan's place soon. And have a safe weekend.

Devlyn sidesteps at that sound so he can look in the direction of the roar and still keep an eye on Tool.

"Oh happy day," he says with much sarcasm as his ears are confirmed...

Understood. Devlyn's exit from this particular stage looks like it's happening soon (as Shadow Pelt's appearance heralded), so I'll try to make that as seamless as possible for everybody :)

"NOBODY MOVE!"
Twenty Servants leap out of the shadows, all with crossbows trained on those conscious.
A skinny gnome steps out from behind two large bodyguards.

"I am Captain Erus. Exactly what is going on here?"

Devlyn looks around at the sound of the gnome's voice, an exaperated look forming on his face as the square gets more and more crowded.

"What in the....? Okay, I really don't remember sending out this many invitations to the party. Really, I don't, guys..."

Dalesman's starting to get a wee bit cranky methinks.... ;D

He rolls his eyes. "Did you think we didn't know that? Hate to burst your bubble, here, but we've known about the cult for ages.

"Ah, so the mage is a fiend? That explains a lot. I don't suppose..." He says mockingly, "...that you brought certified fiend-fighting equipment?"

Off in the distance a small figure watches. He holds a gem to eye.

He chuckles. "Of course. And all these civilians, lying here, on the ground? They look like they've been put through a meat grinder." His eyes widen in mock surprise. "Surely you didn't attack them! Surely you had your team mage banish the enchantments!"
