LoF Players' Guide exotic weapon question

Pathfinder Player Companion

I posted this in Product Discussion, but it quickly got buried so I thought I'd come over here and ask.

Question about the madu:

The intro to the exotic arms section says that all the weapons listed require an Exotic Weapon Proficiency to use effectively. Then under the madu, it says that anyone proficient in shields can use a madu as a spiked light shield.

Which is it? Or can I use it as a spiked light shield with a shield proficiency but only get the fighting defensively and Combat Expertise benefits by taking an exotic weapon proficiency?

You can use it as a light spiked shield for all regards and purposes.

If you have the exotic weapon proficiency, you get all the extras.

Yep.

Important Caveat: the madu does not provide an armor bonus.

Actually, I believe it's been stated that the armor bonus and Max Dex columns were accidentally reversed. I don't know which thread that's in right now, but I'm sure someone will come along to point you to it.

Btw, thanks for answering my question twice, Sean! :)

Eh, wait around for someone to do your work for you and no one shows up. :P

Here is the thread. The question is asked in post 50 at the bottom of the first page.

Sovereign Court

The thing that looks a bit like a Spiked Chain equivalent, that's a reach weapon, does that threaten adjacent squares too (like the Spiked Chain and also the Varisian scarf weapon from RotRL player's guide)? Otherwise I'm not sure it's going to get taken by many people.

The urumi? it's entry in CoCT: Escape from Old Korvosa matches that of the spiked chain, without the caveats found in the Whip description. I'd say that it does threaten adjacent squares.

I meant the Meteor Hammer from the LoF player's guide.

ah, perhaps it depends on the style being used?

The meteor hammer has the same reach and threatened area as a spiked chain.
