Any playing/running GURPS (of any edition)?

I played 3rd edition quite extensively before I adopted Hero. I have looked over 4th edition, which does look improved, but I find Hero more flexible for my tastes.

I played with a group a few years ago, but left because one player/GM had a very GM vs. PC mentality. I have not seen a lot of G.U.R.P.S. groups in my area.

I should like to add that I found the 3rd edition source books some of the best RPG books. They are often the first resource I turn to when examining a particular genre. I still use G.U.R.P.S. Swashbucklers extensively.

I'm playing my own Classless Pathfinder Beta, which is a little like GURPS (and James Bond 007 and Hero and Shadowrun 4e) inasfar as all skills and powers are purchased a la carte.

Wow, considering Steve Jackson Games headquarters is in Austin, that's kind of sad...

Agreed, many of those are worth reading also by people who don't play GURPS (and at least some are enjoyable even for people who don't play RPGs...)

I have played and DM'd third edition a good deal, but not recently. At some point it was however the system of choice, especially in games which took place in more or less contemporary settings, and for those it would still be the system of choice for me.

My main gaming group has switched (mostly) to GURPS 4th. The system is certainly not the easiest to grasp but IMHO it's one of the better ones - and I do like the fact that we can run an ongoing campaign (Firefly for us) spiced up with one-shots from just about any genre without constantly changing systems.

You can certainly play anything with it but our old-school gamer members (hmm, guess that's all of us) do occasionally enjoy the D20-style power curve so we'll probably continue to throw in D&D (3rd, not 4th) and D20M games here and there. Besides, how else would I get to use my Pathfinder stuff? :)

Oh, and I should echo other posters by saying that the GURPS sourcebooks are indeed some of the better researched and written gaming supplements out there. Most are useful no matter what you're system you're using.

This is a definite bonus, one group of mine did quite a lot of short campaigns and one-shot adventures in variety of worlds and genres, and having one system for all of them was a huge plus.

And it allowed DM to sneak in all kinds of surprises :)

We play gurps traveller twice a month - we use 3rd ed for it. Tried 4 for some time, but all books for traveller we use are 3rd.

Gurps is our main system since the mid 90s with all kinds of backgrounds - fantasy, Horror, cyberpunk, timetravel etc. The System works excellent for nearly all backgrounds. Nonetheless we switched in some areas to other systems: trail of cthulhu for cthulhu, d20 and rolemaster for fantasy (kalamar and middle earth).

I like GURPS, but my players don't. It's too bad, because I would really like to run a Reign of Steel adventure or two just before the new Terminator movie comes out.
