Successor to Tac-Tiles? You sir, have a brilliant product. PAIZO!!!

Between these and the Flip-mats I sense the dearth of the battle mat in a tube. Bravo, sir.

Thanks guys, a lot of work has gone into getting ready for this, and I hope that the gaming community is made a little better by it.

I know what I'm saving my pennies for! Do these weigh as much as tactiles? Those things were heavy. And are the prices listed in the preorder dropdown list at the reduced price already, or do you take 10% off of what's listed?

What size are the squares? 1 inch?

It sounds like there are four panels in each pack, with each panel measuring 11 x 11 inches. Is this correct? So four sets = 16 panels?

Sweet stuff.

Wow. Those really look nice! I'd love to order a few sets - I'd like to wait and see if you and Paizo work out a deal.

These are awesome. What a great idea!

I would like to see some more info on shipping.

Testing out the preorder function on the battlegraph site, it seems for me that the shipping is fixed at $9.95 for any one pack, where it does not matter if the pack contains one or four sets of boards.
Adding a second pack (of one to four sets) adds another $9.95 for shipping.

At least that's what I found out.

Liberty's Edge

hey guys, as things stand Shipping costs 9.95 if you buy 1 set or 4. beyond that if you order more it will step up 9.95 every 4 sets. This helps to cover handling costs.
Would be happy to add this to Paizo's line, I really like what they are doing for the community. Maybe I will get to see you at the con.

Still waiting for a reply on my previous post though.

Frankly...I'm not so sure as to what the hoopla is over this. Where is the innovation? How is it SO much better than the status quo?

The *only* difference I see is the thought that you could put them into a backpack as opposed to carrying a rolled up battlemat.

Not a killer in my eyes...

How do you guys see it being so noteworthy?

Liberty's Edge

Sturdy alternate playing surface, expandable as you need, already marked out with squares, and it's dry erase.

What's not to like?

It's not a matter of "not like"...it's a matter of...Why? What great benefit does it convey that a battlemat doesn't already provide?

Well, your playing surface no longer has to take up more room than the currently active area; you no longer have to worry about running up against the edge of the mat; you can prepare individual tiles in advance and only reveal them to the players as needed. There's three benefits in just 30 seconds of thinking....

Valid points all. That was precisely what I was wanting.

One thought...dry erase does tend to wipe off rather easily (think putting your hand on the map, etc...) and more easily than overhead projector pens that you use for battlemats...

Liberty's Edge

In my experience, dry erase is fine after it sits there a few seconds (in fact, let it sit all day and it's a little harder to wipe off). I haven't had any problems with anything I've drawn getting rubbed out during a session. I can't imagine that happening unless someone carelessly slaps their hand on it and pulls it across the ink.

I haven't personally seen the Battlegraph boards yet, but I have used the similar (but no longer available) Tact-Tiles a little bit, and you did have to be a little more careful about accidental erasure than you would with a vinyl mat and wet-erase pens. However, I wonder if the Battlegraph's inscribed grid may help reduce that problem (at least for the part of your map that aligns with the grid)...

Yes, they are one inch. Custom boards may be available in the future, but for now I have to stick with meeting stock demand.

Hex grid is also in the works, but due to differences in process, they would be more expensive.

11x11 is correct, and there are 4 boards in each set, so 4 sets does equal 16.

The grid isn't going to help against accidental erasing. A brush of the hand will remove the marks.

Can you use a wet erase marker on Battlegraph boards?

Maybe you could stick reusable rubber or felt feet on the plain side, so the surfaces don't rub together when they're bagged up?

If it's an issue you can accomplish the same thing with 4 small dots of caulk, but I would keep them small and uniform or you could have an issue with the playing surface staying level.

Next time you buy something that comes in a box with styrofoam framing just cut the styrofoam down to act as notched frames for the boards. Something you can slip on the corners that will keep them separated and will fit in a bag or box. I did this and it looks like it will work, but then my group plays here so I haven't had the chance to check yet:)

Thanks

I love the > Hex Board < .

Is there anyway I can make a configuration of your hex boards to
fit as closely as possible to a 4' x 4' square playing surface ???

I need a square board for battle tech.

any one can play.

Is this still around? The website won't seem to work for me.

Yep the site seems to produce a database error on loading.

This is another manufacturer:

www.ingressionpoint.com

They just completed a KS, but have shipped first shipments of the yet.

Nuts to clear tiles!

Longtoothstudios.com seems to have a flash intro page which then points to a loading error. Hope they fix their stuff soon!

I loved Longtooth's idea when I first heard about it, and I was sadly disappointed when it failed to appear. Clear tiles really aren't a workable alternative.

I found dry erase poster board at walgreens. Bought 2 of them, a fine tipped permanent marker and a pack of colorful dry erase markers...

Taped 2 posterboards together for a total battlespace of 44x28. Used the permanent marker to pip off a hex grid. I just made pips for where a character would stand... 1 didnt actually draw a hex grid and here's why...

if you use permanent marker on a dry erase posterboard it is indeed permanent on its own... If however I drew over the permanent pip with a dry erase marker, it made the 'permanent pip' erasable... Which was interesting but not a dealbreaker, since when you draw walls you're supposed to draw them between the pips, not over the top of them. When avoiding drawing over the top of a permanent pip, I was able to maintain the dry erase nature of the board with the permanent marker pips... I might do another test by making the pips using citadel paint and see how that works too, just to see.... But for now?

Total cost? about 15 bucks.

If you dont care about the surface of your gaming table, walmart sells a paint that becomes a dry erase surface. You could turn the entire table top into a dry erase surface...

That paint costs about 22 bucks. I didnt do it because our gaming table is my nice hardwood dining room table, but hey. Its an option.
