Dex for Combat Maneuvers!!!

Yes, I said it.

I think this should probably be free in general mechanically.

However realistically for the power the of game you start at, I would like to see you able to use Dex for defenses against combat Maneuvers for free from the start.

This makes sense that one would be able to wiggle their way out of all of them.

Sounds reasonable. You'd still need the skill for offense, but you could avoid falling on your rump, or dropping your sword, or being hugged by the stinking troll.

I'm inclined to agree.

The only problem I see is that Dex might be too powerful an ability. It is already way to easy to max out dex and be good at nearly everything. I'm not sure if this would really change anything to much, but you gotta think of nearly all cases when you have an idea like this. Does it make rogues even more better than fighters as front liners? Does it give Wiz/Sor an unfair advantage, (as they tend to dump everything into Dex and Int/Cha)? Things like that?

Maneuver AC uses touch AC in place of the base 15 for target number DCs. This restores us to the 3.5 paradigm where high dex characters were harder to grab, but not necessarily better at grabbing and holding enemies.

This partially implements what you are talking about it here. It's a great house rule, I suggest you check it out. (The thread's in the Combat section)
