For the purposes of this playtest, we chose the second option - suffocation. Since the combat lasted only 4 rounds, it really wasn't a problem. I think this route is generally acceptable given that some combats will last a bit longer and put the PC in the position of having to make a different choice.
Emperor7 wrote:hogarth wrote:Comments:

In this case, the monsters were 6 regular lions + a dire lion + a manticore; the druid probably could've grappled a lion with some success, but what's the point? It was quicker to just beat them up.
Yes, I tried my best to get a good grapple score (high Str, wild shape into a good grappling form, grappling feats), and I still wasn't convinced that I would be successful at grappling anything stronger than a wizard or a fairly weak "flunky" type monster.
Because if you make an character that the BAB isn´t like a fighter, even if you have feats and strength bigger than fighters, they will always have a better chance to grapple than you. Here a sample:

Fighter lv 14 - Str 18(+4), BAB 14 (+14) —- Not prepared for grapple

DC = 15 + 4 + 14 = 29

Druid lv 14 - Str 18(+4), BAB 10 (+10), Improved Grapple (+2) —- prepare for grapple

CMB = 4 + 10 + 4 = 18

#############################
Both character´s have the same level and even the warrior been not prepared for grapple, he still have an advantage, the druid need´s to roll at least 11 to dmg, it´s less than 50%, and both have the same strength. That´s make no sense.

At higher levels is impossible to a class with BAB different from figther to win a grapple or any CMB action based.

———————————————-
Another thing that i dont liked was the withdraw manuver, it´s just like double move and you dont get an attack of oportunity!! And it´s very rare to have more than one enemy in the running way, so i think this mannuver should be shut down.
I didn´t liked the new CMB rules.

He also had the plant domain so that he could get some extra damage from unarmed strikes. However, it's not at all clear how natural attacks and unarmed/weapon attacks interact in Pathfinder. Please, please clarify this in the Bestiary or in the Pathfinder rules!

I gave up on using grapple, however; because we were fighting a bunch of weak enemies, the druid was better off just attacking 8 times instead of making two grapple checks (even with the Constrict ability).

As part of his equipment, I bought a set of Eyes of the Eagle. These should probably be called the Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and Whiskers of the Wolf instead (since they add to all Perception checks, not just sight checks)!

I considered turning into a megaraptor, but the lack of the Multiattack feat hurt the druid's chances to hit with the secondary attacks. Please clarify whether druids qualify to take the Multiattack feat even if they don't always have 3 natural attacks.

We just did a brief (single fight) playtest here (refereed by "Sleepy" and "therealthom"):
