Pathfinder Society Help needed at Oklahoma Convention

Local Play

The Exchange

Hi all,

First off I'd like to say I'm really impressed with Pathfinder. The setting and system are second to none. Plus the art is amazing and art is a big factor for me as a gamer.

I'm requesting some assistance in trying to get Pathfinder off the ground in the Oklahoma area. I'm chairing a convention March 20-22nd in Stillwater, OK known as StillCon (www.stillcon.com) and I would like to include Pathfinder in the programming. In fact I've already set tables aside for it. Unfortunately I'm behind the eight ball on getting Pathfinder going it a terrible circle that runs something like this at the local game shop (which I manage).

"hey Jim this Pathfinder Society thing is cool!"

"Yea it is! You should totally play Pathfinder it rocks!"

"Who's running a group?"

"ummmm, well nobody yet, we can't seem to get any GMs to show us the ropes."

"Oh, well never mind."

The only qualified GM for Pathfinder in the area in Brent Norton (very cool guy) and his weekly group is already full. I would love to organize something but unfortunately I am the Con Chair and have 1,000 other things to do. So I'm stuck, I would like nothing more than to have tables and tables of Pathfinder running all weekend long (In fact I'd be willing to boot those turkeys from the other organized play group to do it) but unfortunately I just don't have the volunteers that are qualified to run the scenarios.

Is there anyone in Oklahoma or surrounding area or working for Paizo that would willing to come in and help launch Pathfinder in a big way in our area. A good showing at the convention would no doubt springboard Pathfinder with our local player base and would generate interest in Pathfinder for years to come. There is a ground swell of support I just need some experienced help to come in a get things started. I'm very flexible on accommodating GMs to gain their participation and would be willing to help out of state promoters get to the convention.

Please consider this opportunity to spread Pathfinder mania to new territory.

Thanks,

Jim Trent

We really could use someone who can run Society play. I know of at least 15 players that play here in Stillwater. Not counting possible players from OKC or Tulsa.

Frog God Games

That sounds like a cool thing you've got going on up there. Good for you for organizing it. I may (stress the MAY) be able to get up that way for at least part of the Con and if so would be willing to run some PFS. I don't have my March schedule fully worked out yet, but I'll start to do so with an eye on working in the Con if possible...

...that is if you'll let a Sooner play, too, up in Stillwater. ;-)

Liberty's Edge

March 20-22? In Stillwater? Hmmm.

I would have to confer with the girlfriend and the boss, and figure out what a weekend in Stillwater would cost, but I might be able to swing it. No promises, mind you...

That is, if y'all will have a Longhorn...

Frog God Games

I think I can speak for all of us when I say, nope, no Longhorns allowed. ;-)

I kid, I kid....

Oh...if only I would be done with my diss then...Derek and I could drive up there and lay some TX-sized smack down on you Okies!
Seriously, though, I have fond memories of Stillwater...where you can be an Aggie and an Okie at the same time...

Liberty's Edge

I'm a Gator, so I would be shot at the Tex/Ok border.

Not if you road in my trunk, under a bunch of Indian blankets.

Silver Crusade

We would welcome you all. Even Gator, Sooner, and Longhorn fans.

It's true, he would be. And we search trunks...especially under the Indian blankets.

Hey, We'll take all variety of Pathfinders Longhorn to Sooner, Gator to Jayhawk.

The response to adding Pathfinder to the convention programming has been overwhelming. Just offering the idea of Pathfinder tables at the convention has generated strong buzz in the player and some beginner GMs have stepped up, grabbed some books, and some scenarios and started studying hard for the event so far we're looking at 5 deciated 24 hour tables for Pathfinder addicts to get in as many scenarios as their personal stamina and their bladder's resistance to Mountain Dew can handle. Unfortunately I'm only looking at 4 potential GMs and could use some more so anyone willing to run would be greatly appreciated!

On this end I've negotiated a special arrangement with StillCon and the first 10 Pathfinder GMs to register to run three Scenarios at the convention will receive their convention ticket and their GM T-shirt for FREE. That's right free. In addition we're generating lots of "walk up" 1st level characters for the many, many newbie first time gamers that will be attending the convention. To help out with bringing Pathfinder to new gamers and to StillCon go to the website at : www.stillcon.com. If you want to GM email me at jtrent@suddenlink.net subject: StillCon

Thanks for the response and I hope we can see many of you in March

Man, I'm really tempted to make the attempt. I'll have to see how the money shakes out.

Silver Crusade

bump.for Con.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, cleared the girlfriend hurdle. Now I just have to clear the boss/fundage hurdle!

Daigle, if you decide to go, I could swing through Austin and we could roadtrip it if you like...

That sounds like a plan if the cash/time thing work out.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, got the weekend off.

Frog God Games

Sorry, guys, I'm out. I've got a scheduling conflict, and it's not going to work for me. Have fun, all.

I see how it is.

Just for that, I'm gonna stop by your house on the way just to torment you.

Silver Crusade

Any chance we can get a box of catalogs to hand out or any type of support would be helpful.

Well, I have scenarios #9-#12 printed up, so I could run those, I suppose.

Well, were pretty much Society "virgins" up here so any thing would be great. I will probabily run #1 and #2. Thnak you for coming up and helping.

I can try to work it out and be there. I am not sure, yet, but I am conversant with a few of the scenarios (I got to read them after I ran them at Gen Con!).

Maybe I'll run Dralkard Manor and tell them I wrote it. Then I'll run Silent Tide at a different table and tell them I'm Mike Kortez. Then I'll run Silken Caravan...

Awesome thank you.

Paizo Employee Director of Game Development

If I can make it, I'll run #3 or #4. I'm most familiar with #4, since Craig ran me through it at GenCon.

I really hope to be able to make it.

Make sure after you run it, you tell the players that you're Craig Shackleton. Follow it up by saying 'eh?'

It looks like I could make it up for a Saturday. Maybe a Friday if someone will put me up for the night. In the case of a sorority, we just won't tell Mrs Ancient Sensei. It's safer that way.

So, I'll follow up on whether I could make it in the next few days.

I'd have to wear a kilt in order to play it off.

So, how am I suppose to get you to sign my "Into the Darklands" if your not here.

Silver Crusade

Looking forward to seeing others who have a passion for this system and world. Can't wait till the weekend. Is there a checklist of things I need to bring?

Paizo Employee Director of Game Development

Sadly folks, I will be unable to attend. Roll a twenty for me!
