Why a Sorcerer and Wizard can't cast this spell?
It sounds very reasonable and the fact that clerics can
make me think about it.What your opinion?
I agree, I've always wondered why it was a cleric spell and not a sorcerer/wizard spell. Its effect doesn't seem particularly divine except maybe for a spark of life kind of explanation.

I'm really kind of opposed to starting to "logic" out the spell lists too much. Not only does that start to homogenize the spell lists, but it also adds yet another layer of complexity to the "conversion" of 3.5 to Pathfinder.
True, its just nitpicking really, but it isn't something that would be difficult to houserule anyway. Guess my memories of cartoon wizards with animated furniture are still strong within my mind.

Yeah something like that.
Personally, I've talked with DM's and generally just use an variant Unseen Servant as a transmutation spell. It can't attack or do anything the unseen servant can't do, and it requires an object to animate, which "grows" arms and legs while it goes about the tasks assigned to it. Same spell different flavor really.
But I would like to be able to cast animate object.

Yah, I could definately see it as a Sor/Wiz spell (especially after viewing that link ;D). I play a bard and have it on my spell list, and since I'm an arcane spellcaster I don't see why it shouldn't be on the list of the other two arcane spellcasters.
The bard's spell list borrows a few spells from the cleric's and the druid's spell lists.
While I don't think that every spell that the bard can cast should be available to other arcane spellcasters, animate object always appeared as a stereotypical wizard spell to me. At any case, the ability to animate things appears in many tales of both modern and classical literature. Fantasia is a perfect example. Hell, even Dumbledore animates statues to his defense!

I've always wondered if it was some sort of oversight that it was a cleric spell and not a sorcerer/wizard. It really doesn't make any intuitive sense to me for Clerics to have it, while it does for Wizards.
