Any movies I can watch to get in the mood?
All three Aladdin movies, Scorpion King I and II (two wasn't as bad as it looked tbh, certainly better than Mummy 3)
What about The Kingdom? Any non cartoon? Like historical Egyptian?
Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber
Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977)
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974)
The Thief of Baghdad (1940)
Arabian Nights (2000)
Thank you both very much.
I'd add Hidalgo and Indiana Jones one and three for the terrain type encounters the PCs might face.
Lawrence of Arabia is a classic.
But for pure fantasy fun I'd go with what the others have already mentioned and maybe just use the soundtrack. Still, you've gotta know the movie before you can use the soundtrack, otherwise it might not evoke the picture you want.
For Katapesh, I'd go with the "Hive of scum and villainy" cantina music from Star Wars: Episode IV.
Dune is pretty cool and stylish. But the book is better than the movie.
Not quite what you may be looking for but the putative model for the Cantina in Star Wars:...Casa Blanca!
It has all the right Character Types, and the North African setting to boot.

I was going to suggest a bit of Harryhausen love, but ya beat me to it!
As the guy who invented Katapesh and wrote the first adventure in the new path, I endorse nearly all of these as potential source material, especially the Harryhausen Sinbad movies and Lawrence of Arabia. You can't go wrong with Indiana Jones and the Mummy movies as well, but change most (not all) of the Egyptian stuff to Arabian motifs.

The Kingdom certainly has the power to inspire ... you to gouge your eyes out and swallow the business end of a .44 . I don't see how it could be applied to this or any other RPG campaign. It might be set in Saudi Arabia, but it's in modern day and is pretty much a piece of crap.
Oh, I'm gonna be a sucker for this setting! I can't wait.
Hey, Y8MH, what are your feelings really re "The Kingdom"? ;) Guess I won't add it to my queue.

Just wanting to make sure it was more Alladin and not Princes of Egypt. Wish there was a more historical with battles and culture. Guess I should check the History channel.
Some video games that might help:
Assassin's Creed
Quest For Glory 2
Everquest 2: Desert of Flames
The Kingdom of Heaven. Whose Queen was HAWT.
Edit: Bought a big container of Medjool dates from Costco today. Having them with cups of Turkish coffee should get me in the mood for the next AP...

Be sure you have a blog to go with that coffee. I know how you get.
Heh heh. Too true: I gets grumpy without my blog...heck, I get grumpy if there are no new pretty pics with my blog. Today's blog starts off another awesome day.
Just out of curiosity, any anime that might fit the bill? I'm thinking partially of Heroic Legend of Arislan in spots but anything else?
